If ReGLOSS: CROSS’s compact, character-led puzzles are what you want more of, choose Baba Is You for interactive rule changes or Patrick’s Parabox for recursive box logic. ReGLOSS: CROSS is the focused option: you issue movement-direction commands to bring paired ReGLOSS characters together, while later puzzles add warps and signs.
The best follow-up depends on what you want to change. Baba Is You keeps the readable 2D presentation but turns the rules into movable objects. Patrick’s Parabox keeps the push-and-position foundation of classic Sokoban while making the boxes themselves recursive spaces.
What ReGLOSS: CROSS is, and what its design emphasizes
CCMC’s announcement dated 24 September 2026 describes ReGLOSS: CROSS as a one-player 2D puzzle game for PC on Steam. It supports Japanese and English, and the announcement set a planned release date of 15 October 2026 at 490 yen. SteamDB metadata identifies yado as developer and holo Indie as publisher, with Windows support and the tags Casual, Puzzle, 2D, Cute, Indie and Singleplayer.
The basic task is direct: guide members of hololive’s ReGLOSS and bring paired characters together. The game is built around readable movement-direction commands rather than a large control scheme, so the challenge comes from planning routes and understanding each stage’s constraints. The announced content comprises five normal stages and three extra stages, totaling eight stages and 70 puzzles. Later stages introduce mechanics such as warps and signs and increase the difficulty.

That structure makes ReGLOSS: CROSS a specific kind of puzzle experience. It is a defined set of character-routing problems, not an open-ended construction system. If you finish it and want the same clarity with a much larger rule space, Baba Is You is the natural next step. If you want spatial problems that fold back into themselves, Patrick’s Parabox is the better match.

They indicate how much published material is advertised, not how long any individual player will take. Puzzle-solving speed, optional experimentation and the point at which you stop are personal, so the numbers should be used as scope indicators rather than promises of playtime.
Baba Is You: choose it for rule manipulation
How the central mechanic works
The official Steam description defines Baba Is You as a puzzle game in which “the rules you have to follow are present as blocks you can interact with.” Those blocks form readable statements. By pushing them into different arrangements, you can change what an object is, what it can do, which things are dangerous and what counts as the goal.
That is a major step away from ReGLOSS: CROSS’s route-planning model. In ReGLOSS: CROSS, you interpret the stage and select movement directions for the characters. In Baba Is You, you can alter the interpretation itself. A wall can become walkable, a character can acquire a new property, or a victory condition can be moved or disabled when the corresponding rule blocks are rearranged.
The important distinction is not simply that Baba has more mechanics. Its rules are part of the level’s physical puzzle space. Every push can affect both your immediate position and the meaning of later actions. A move that looks like progress may break a sentence you still need, while an apparently harmless block displacement can open an entirely different solution.
Why it follows ReGLOSS: CROSS well
Both games present their problems in a compact 2D format with clear objects and goals. That shared readability makes Baba Is You approachable after ReGLOSS: CROSS, even though the reasoning changes. You still inspect a board, identify constraints and plan a sequence. The added layer is that the constraints are manipulable.

Choose Baba Is You when your favorite ReGLOSS: CROSS moments involve discovering why a route works, spotting a useful interaction or finding a clever way around a restriction. Baba rewards that same curiosity, but it lets you test hypotheses about the rules themselves. Instead of asking only “Which direction should this character move?”, you also ask “What must this object mean for the move to be legal?”

Scale and puzzle variety
Steam lists more than 200 levels for Baba Is You and identifies Hempuli Oy as developer. The listing is dated 13 March 2019 and uses tags including Puzzle, Logic, Sokoban, 2D and Level Editor. The level count signals a substantially broader library than the compact ReGLOSS: CROSS campaign.
The breadth comes from recombining the same basic vocabulary in increasingly surprising ways. Because a rule block can change an object’s identity or behavior, a familiar-looking room can support a new type of problem without needing an entirely new control scheme. This gives the game a strong experimentation loop: read the statements, make one controlled change, observe the result, then revise the arrangement.
Control simplicity versus mechanic depth
Baba Is You has a simple physical interaction—move the character and push blocks—but the logical consequences can be deep. That combination is useful if you prefer games where the input is easy to understand and the challenge lies in sequencing. It also means a failed attempt is often informative: the board shows which rule changed and which object responded.
Compared with ReGLOSS: CROSS, the source of complexity is more systemic. ReGLOSS: CROSS adds stage mechanics such as warps and signs within a character-routing framework. Baba can change the framework itself. If you want a puzzle game that continually asks you to reconsider assumptions about walls, goals and hazards, this is the stronger alternative.

Baba Is You is a poor fit if you specifically want another short, character-driven set with a narrow mechanic vocabulary. Its appeal comes from rule interaction and the freedom to dismantle a level’s original logic. Players who prefer to master one stable movement language may find that constant reinterpretation less comfortable than ReGLOSS: CROSS’s staged progression.

Patrick’s Parabox: choose it for recursive spatial reasoning
The box-within-a-box idea
The official Steam page describes Patrick’s Parabox as an award-winning recursive puzzle game about boxes within boxes. Its defining action is pushing boxes into and out of one another. A box is not merely an obstacle or container; it can hold another version of the space you are navigating, creating a relationship between the outside board and an interior board.
This recursion changes how you read a position. A push can move an object in the room you see, but it can also alter the arrangement inside a nested box. Entering or exiting a box can change which space you occupy and which walls or goals surround you. The puzzle is therefore about spatial relationships across levels of containment, not only about reaching a destination on one flat grid.
Why it follows ReGLOSS: CROSS well
Patrick’s Parabox preserves the compact 2D, single-player format that makes ReGLOSS: CROSS easy to parse. You still work with visible spaces, deliberate movement and a limited set of interactions. The difference is that the board can contain another board, so each apparently local decision may have a recursive consequence.

Choose it if you enjoyed planning routes in ReGLOSS: CROSS but want the route itself to become an object of thought. Instead of guiding paired characters through a fixed arrangement, you manipulate boxes and the spaces they contain. The game is a particularly good next step for players who like Sokoban-style pushing but have already learned to look beyond simple shortest paths.
Scale and handcrafted design
Steam lists more than 350 hand-crafted puzzles for Patrick’s Parabox. The listing identifies Patrick Traynor as both developer and publisher, gives 29 March 2022 as the release date and uses tags including Puzzle, Sokoban, Logic and 2D.
“Hand-crafted” matters for expectations: the advertised library is designed around authored arrangements rather than a claim of unlimited procedural content. Each puzzle can introduce a new use of nesting, a new relationship between interior and exterior spaces, or a stricter requirement for preserving a route while moving a container.

What makes the reasoning different
ReGLOSS: CROSS asks you to coordinate character movement with stage rules. Patrick’s Parabox asks you to maintain a mental model of several connected spaces at once. A box may be outside itself, contain a copy of the room, or provide the route needed to reach a position that is inaccessible from the exterior.
The resulting challenge is spatial rather than rule-linguistic. You are not rewriting statements as in Baba Is You; you are exploiting the geometry of containment. If the most satisfying part of a puzzle is recognizing that two locations are linked in a way you initially missed, Patrick’s Parabox should be your first alternative.
Who should not pick it first
Patrick’s Parabox is not the best choice when you want the most direct continuation of ReGLOSS: CROSS’s character presentation. Its identity is tied to boxes, nesting and Sokoban-style manipulation. Select it for abstract spatial problems, not for a similar cast or narrative framing.
How the three games differ on the questions that matter
Control simplicity
All three games communicate their immediate actions through a small 2D vocabulary. ReGLOSS: CROSS centers on movement-direction commands for paired characters. Baba Is You adds pushing rule blocks to ordinary movement. Patrick’s Parabox adds pushing and navigating nested boxes.
The important comparison is where complexity enters. ReGLOSS: CROSS keeps complexity in the stage layout and its later mechanics. Baba places complexity in the meaning of the blocks. Patrick’s Parabox places it in the relationship between spaces. None of those descriptions establishes an objective difficulty ranking; they identify the kind of attention each game demands.

ReGLOSS: CROSS is the focused package, with its announced stages and puzzle total forming a clearly bounded campaign. Baba Is You advertises more than 200 levels, while Patrick’s Parabox advertises more than 350 hand-crafted puzzles. If you want a compact project that can be completed as a single arc, start with ReGLOSS: CROSS. If you want a long-term puzzle library, choose one of the two alternatives according to your preferred mechanic.

Difficulty curve
The ReGLOSS: CROSS announcement specifically says that later stages add mechanics and raise the difficulty. The available descriptions for Baba Is You and Patrick’s Parabox establish their systems and published scale, but do not provide a standardized cross-game difficulty measure. It is therefore more accurate to describe their escalation by mechanic: Baba increases the number and interaction of rules you must reason about, while Patrick’s Parabox increases the complexity of nested spatial relationships.
Presentation and tone
ReGLOSS: CROSS is explicitly character-led and tagged Cute on SteamDB, making its paired ReGLOSS members central to the presentation. Baba Is You and Patrick’s Parabox are identified primarily by their puzzle systems. Pick ReGLOSS: CROSS when character identity and a friendly visual framing are part of the appeal; pick either alternative when the abstract mechanism is the main attraction.

Pick ReGLOSS: CROSS again—or stay with it—when you want focus
Stay with ReGLOSS: CROSS if you want a self-contained set of 2D puzzles built around bringing paired characters together. Its one-player Steam format, Japanese and English support, and clearly announced stage structure make it the straightforward choice for a short, themed session. The later introduction of warps and signs gives the campaign a way to vary its route problems without abandoning its central interaction.

Pick Baba Is You when you want to experiment
Choose Baba Is You if you want to manipulate the logic that defines a level. It is the right follow-up for players who enjoy testing “what if” ideas, moving puzzle elements around and watching the goal state change. The game’s rule blocks make every level a system to investigate rather than a route to memorize.
Pick Patrick’s Parabox when you want to think in layers
Choose Patrick’s Parabox if you want the most direct move from character routing to spatial abstraction. Its recursive boxes turn containment into the core puzzle language. It is especially suitable when you like pushing puzzles and want each board to challenge your assumptions about where a space begins and ends.
A practical decision path
- Decide whether you want a fixed or transformable problem. If you want to solve a stage as presented, ReGLOSS: CROSS is the focused option. If you want to alter the problem’s rules, choose Baba Is You.
- Decide whether your preferred abstraction is logical or spatial. Rule blocks point to Baba Is You. Nested boxes point to Patrick’s Parabox.
- Decide how much published content you want. Use ReGLOSS: CROSS for the bounded announced campaign. Use Baba Is You or Patrick’s Parabox for the larger advertised level libraries.
- Decide whether character presentation is essential. ReGLOSS: CROSS puts ReGLOSS members at the center. The alternatives are defined by their systems rather than a character-led premise.
- Check the current Steam listing before purchase. The ReGLOSS: CROSS announcement supplied a planned date and price, while regional availability and any later changes should be confirmed on Steam. The supplied listings do not establish comparable current prices for Baba Is You or Patrick’s Parabox, so do not infer them from the ReGLOSS: CROSS announcement.
What these games have in common—and where they stop being similar
Each title is a 2D, single-player puzzle experience that rewards deliberate moves over reflexes. Start with ReGLOSS: CROSS if you want a cute, character-driven 2D puzzle set with a clear scope. Move to Baba Is You for rule-changing experimentation and a broad level library. Move to Patrick’s Parabox for recursive box logic, layered spaces and the largest advertised puzzle collection of the three. The best successor is not the one with the highest number; it is the one whose central question matches how you want to think.
