For the closest Just Dance experience, choose a current Just Dance edition on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. If you want a different kind of movement game, Dance Central is the nearest full-body VR substitute, Beat Saber delivers vigorous VR rhythm action, Synth Riders adds freer movement and large online multiplayer, and Sayonara Wild Hearts is the best non-VR choice when music and visual style matter more than exercise.
The important distinction is that only choreography games ask you to mirror an on-screen dancer. Beat Saber and Synth Riders make you react to beats with your arms and body, while Sayonara Wild Hearts is an arcade music game rather than a dance trainer.

What counts as a “game like Just Dance”?
Just Dance has a specific interaction model: you watch a dancer, copy the displayed moves, and receive feedback on timing and accuracy. A substitute can resemble it in several ways, but those similarities are not interchangeable.

Full-body VR dancing
VR dance games put an avatar and a three-dimensional play space around you. They can feel more immersive than a television-based routine, but they require a headset and enough clear floor space. Their motion systems may emphasize arm paths, body movement, or beat targets instead of teaching a sequence of dance steps.
Rhythm action
Rhythm-action games synchronize an objective with music. You may slash targets, hit notes, dodge barriers, or follow a track. They can be physically demanding and excellent for parties, yet they are not direct choreography lessons.
Music-action presentation
Some games use music as the structure for an arcade experience. You follow a course, react to prompts, and replay short stages to improve your score. This is a good choice when soundtrack and presentation are your priorities, but it should not be sold as an exercise replacement.

Best direct match: current Just Dance editions
If your priority is copying routines with friends, stay with Just Dance rather than switching to a different genre. Nintendo’s current Just Dance: Decades of Hits listing describes up to six players, a decade-themed Adventure Mode, Party Mode, Workout Mode, and smartphone control. Nintendo also notes that additional multiplayer accessories may be required, so check the controller arrangement before inviting a large group.
How the controls work
On supported systems, a phone can act as the motion controller. Install the companion controller app on each participant’s phone, place the phone securely in a hand, and follow the game’s pairing instructions. A strap or a stable smartphone stand is sensible for a living-room setup: it reduces the chance of dropping a phone during a large arm movement, but it does not replace a compatible controller.
Why it remains the party benchmark
- The on-screen dancer gives beginners a visual model instead of requiring knowledge of rhythm-game notation.
- Party Mode changes the pacing and rules often enough to keep a mixed group involved.
- Workout Mode frames sessions as continuous movement rather than only score chasing.

Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2024 Edition page introduced 40 new songs and described access to 300 songs through Just Dance+, but those figures belong to that edition and its service offering at launch. They should not be treated as a guaranteed song count for every later edition or region.

Dance Central: the closest dedicated full-body alternative
Dance Central is the strongest alternative when you want to watch an avatar and dance with your whole body rather than swing virtual weapons. Harmonix’s current presentation covers Oculus Quest and Rift, with a multiplayer lounge supporting cooperative and competitive play. Its fitness app tracks estimated calories burned while you play.

What a session feels like
You enter a virtual room, select a song and difficulty, and follow an avatar’s movement. The environment is more immersive than a television-based dance game, and the lounge gives a group a place to meet before choosing a routine. Cooperative play is useful when the goal is to keep a group moving; competitive play gives repeat sessions a scoring hook.
Fitness information and its limits
The calorie number is an estimate, not a medical measurement. Harmonix says it can vary with the song, difficulty, height, weight, and other factors. Use it as a rough comparison between your own sessions, not as a precise record of energy expenditure.
Xbox caveat
The current official Dance Central information points Xbox One owners to Dance Central Spotlight. That does not establish that the same release is available on Xbox Series X|S, nor that every storefront still sells it. Confirm the console generation, backwards-compatibility status, and local store listing before buying hardware or planning a party around it.
Beat Saber: best for energetic VR rhythm action
Beat Saber is a strong choice when “dance” means continuous movement and a clear physical objective. In the PlayStation VR and PS VR2 version, you use twin blades to destroy incoming beat blocks and move your body to avoid obstacles. The action is immediately readable: direction, color, timing, and obstacle placement tell you what to do.
Why it works for exercise
- Rapid arm swings keep you moving through an entire song.
- Dodging walls and changing stance add lower-body and torso movement.
- Difficulty increases can make the same song substantially more demanding.
- Short, repeatable tracks work well for alternating players in a party.
PlayStation’s guide lists downloadable music packs featuring artists including Linkin Park, Kendrick Lamar, and BTS. Music-pack availability and pricing can vary by platform and region, so check the store attached to your headset.

What it does not replace
Beat Saber does not show a dancer whose choreography you copy. Your arms follow blade targets, not dance steps, and the game rewards accurate cuts and obstacle avoidance. Choose it for physical rhythm play, not for learning a routine.
Synth Riders: freer movement and large online groups
Synth Riders is the better VR pick when you want movement that feels less like striking targets and more like flowing through music. PlayStation describes it as a freestyle-dance and fitness experience. You guide your hands through notes, move with the beat, and use the available space more freely than in a conventional note-lane rhythm game.
Multiplayer options
The PlayStation version supports up to 10 players online and includes a local Party mode. That combination makes it useful for two different situations: a remote group that wants to meet in one session, and a room where people take turns on one headset or play locally according to the hardware available.

Optional downloadable content includes artists such as Gorillaz, Bruno Mars, and The Offspring. Treat that content as an expansion to the base game rather than assuming every song is included. Verify the edition and any required add-ons in your regional store.
How it differs from Just Dance
Synth Riders encourages expressive arm and body movement, but it does not present a fixed routine for you to mirror. It is a good choice for players who find Beat Saber’s blade mechanic too literal and Just Dance’s choreography too prescriptive.
Sayonara Wild Hearts: the best non-VR music-action option
Sayonara Wild Hearts is a stylish alternative for players who care about soundtrack, color, and spectacle more than workout tracking. PlayStation lists it among its PS4 and PS5 music games and describes it as part synth-pop album and part music-action video game.

Current Just Dance editions remain part of the PlayStation ecosystem for television-based choreography. If you own PS VR2, Beat Saber and Synth Riders expand the choice into full-body rhythm action. Synth Riders is the standout for online groups because its PlayStation listing specifies 10-player online multiplayer; Beat Saber is the simpler recommendation when the appeal is immediately understandable physical action.
- For Just Dance, prepare the television area and pair the supported phone controllers.

Do not assume that an Xbox One dance title automatically has a native Series X|S release. Check whether the listing says Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or backward compatible, and confirm whether the required controller method still works on your console.

PC
The official sources used for this guide do not establish a current native, non-VR PC game that reproduces Just Dance’s full-body choreography format. That is the key limitation for PC buyers: a general rhythm game may be fun, but it is not automatically a Just Dance replacement.
