If you mean repeating a video while you watch YouTube, use YouTube’s built-in Loop control. If you mean broadcasting prerecorded video continuously as a live stream, you need a live encoder or a cloud streaming service. YouTube lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge; StreamNeo is a cloud option with a free first day, while YouTube’s listing of Gyre does not establish that it has a free plan.
First, choose the kind of looping you mean
| What you want | What to use | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Repeat a video for yourself while watching | YouTube’s built-in Loop control | The video repeats in playback; it does not create a live broadcast. |
| Broadcast prerecorded video as a continuous YouTube Live stream | An encoder such as OBS, or a cloud service such as StreamNeo or Gyre | A video feed is sent to YouTube Live for viewers to watch as a live stream. |
These are different jobs. Looping playback changes what happens in your player; streaming prerecorded videos 24/7 on YouTube means creating and maintaining a broadcast.
Loop a video on YouTube while you watch
- Open the video on YouTube.
- On desktop, right-click the video player and select Loop.
- To repeat a playlist, use the repeat control in the playlist.
This repeats playback for the viewer. It does not put the video on your channel as a live stream.
Best options for streaming prerecorded videos continuously
For a creator broadcast, these options differ in where the stream runs, what price is established, and how much you must operate yourself.

OBS: a no-charge encoder workflow
YouTube lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge. In this approach, the encoder sends a video feed from the computer to YouTube Live. It is a DIY option, rather than a hosted service: you need to configure and operate the encoder and keep the local streaming setup running. The YouTube material establishes OBS’s broad role as live-streaming software, but does not specify a current OBS media-source or playlist setting for seamless local-file looping, so do not assume a particular repeat setup without checking current OBS documentation.

Gyre: a cloud option whose price needs checking
YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. That listing does not establish a free tier or price. Check Gyre’s own current pricing and terms before treating it as a free alternative.
Set up and verify a YouTube Live broadcast
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Choose the workflow. For OBS, use YouTube’s encoder setup materials to configure the local encoder and connect it to YouTube Live. For a cloud service, follow that service’s instructions to connect your channel and start the prerecorded stream.
- Preview before relying on the broadcast. Check the stream preview, then confirm that viewers can access it from your channel or watch page and on mobile.
- Test and monitor. YouTube recommends testing with an unlisted or public stream and monitoring audio and video quality. Keep an eye on the live output rather than assuming that a successful start means the stream remains healthy.
- Follow YouTube’s rules. Live content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. You are responsible for having the rights needed to broadcast the video and audio you use.
What viewers can do during a long live stream
YouTube DVR can let viewers pause and rewind during a live stream, but DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers also cannot seek to a point before the broadcast began. If viewers need to find a particular part of a long-running stream, a live broadcast does not offer unlimited rewind to before its start.
