For the sharpest Forza Horizon 6 Photo Challenge picture, start with the required car or object in focus, aperture around f/5.6–f/9, a shutter setting that freezes movement (use 1/500s or faster for a moving car), exposure near 50, and Quality sampling. For a parked subject, the official Forza baseline is Shutter Speed 15, Zoom 1.7x, Focus 0, Exposure 50, Aperture 9, Bokeh Diamond and Sampling Quality. Treat those numbers as starting points: the visible preview, scene lighting and your current game build determine the final adjustment.
Use this sharp-photo setup first
Apply the following setup before fine-tuning composition. It is designed for a stationary or nearly stationary challenge subject and keeps enough depth of field for the whole car or required object.

The official Forza/Turn 10 Photo Mode guide lists “Shutter Speed: 15,” “Zoom: 1.7x,” “Focus: 0,” “Exposure: 50,” “Aperture: 9,” “Bokeh: Diamond,” and “Sampling: Quality” as a baseline. FH6-specific numeric recommendations come from independent 2026 community guides, so use the on-screen preview and adapt them to the current build rather than treating a slider number as universal.

Motion blur from the shutter
Shutter speed is the first control to change when blur is the problem. A moving car can travel a visible distance during a long exposure, softening body lines, wheels and the required landmark. Community FH6 guidance recommends 1/500s or faster for sharp action. The commonly suggested 1/30–1/60s range is for intentional wheel and background streaks, not for a maximum-sharpness submission.

Forza’s Photo Mode slider may not display units or direction exactly like a camera app, and that behavior can vary by build. Do not assume that a larger or smaller number always means a faster exposure. Change the value, watch the preview, and choose the setting that visibly freezes the subject. If the camera behaves unexpectedly, reset it and try the lowest shutter-speed value available in your build, then verify the preview before capturing.
Depth of field from the aperture
Aperture controls how much distance in front of and behind the focus plane remains acceptably sharp. Around f/2.8–f/4 isolates a car against a soft background, but the near fender, far mirror or a required object beside the car can fall outside the focus zone. Raise the aperture toward f/5.6–f/9 when the entire vehicle, a gate or tower, and enough surrounding context must be readable. Values around f/8–f/16 keep more of a landscape in focus, although an excessively narrow aperture can make the scene look less bright and may not be necessary for a simple car portrait.

Focus left on the wrong subject
Auto or car focus is quickest when the vehicle is clearly the required subject. Use manual focus when the challenge calls for an object that is not nearest to the camera, such as a sign behind the car. Refocus every time you move the camera, change zoom, or substantially alter the composition; the original focus plane does not automatically remain correct for a new distance.
Exposure that hides detail
Brightness is not the same as sharpness, but clipped highlights and crushed shadows make a sharp picture appear unusable. Forza’s official guidance says the photo has the correct brightness when you can distinguish the tire from the rear fender. Use that as a practical test: if the tire merges into the fender, lower exposure or reposition the light; if bright bodywork has no visible texture, reduce exposure or change angle. One FH6 guide suggests starting around +0.3 to +0.7 EV in daylight, but weather, time of day and the car’s paint matter more than a fixed number.

Lens perspective and field of view
A very wide lens exaggerates the front of a car and bends body lines near the frame edges. A longer lens compresses the background and can make a distant landmark look closer. A balanced starting point is approximately 50–85mm with a field of view near 30°. Adjust focal length before forcing the subject into a distorted edge position.
Recommended settings, control by control
Shutter speed: freeze first, stylize later
- Parked or nearly still: choose the lowest value that remains crisp in the preview, then check small details such as wheel spokes and lettering.
- Moving car: begin at 1/500s or faster and slow down only if you deliberately want rotational or background blur.
- Intentional motion: 1/30–1/60s can create wheel and background streaks, but the car body may not remain sharp.
If a shot that should be sharp is unexpectedly blurred, reset the camera, set the shutter again, and capture another preview. This is faster than trying to correct a motion-softened image with aperture or exposure.

Aperture: match depth of field to the challenge
- Car portrait: f/2.8–f/4 for a soft background, provided every required part of the car lies in the focus zone.
- Whole car and nearby object: f/5.6–f/9 as the safer general range.
- Car plus broad scenery: f/8–f/16 when the background itself is part of the requirement.
After changing aperture, inspect the nearest and farthest required details. A pleasing blur behind the car is not useful if it also softens the challenge object.

Focus: place the sharp plane deliberately
Point the focus target at the required subject, not automatically at the nearest bumper or foreground grass. If the mask contains both a car and a landmark, focus near the distance that keeps both acceptably sharp and raise aperture if needed. Refocus after camera movement because changing distance or angle changes which plane is sharp.

Exposure: protect tire and body detail
Use the preview rather than a universal exposure number. In bright daylight, +0.3 to +0.7 EV is a reasonable first adjustment from one FH6 guide, but back it down when white paint or sky loses texture. In shadow, increase exposure only until the tire separates from the fender without flattening highlights.
Sampling and bokeh
Select Quality sampling for the cleanest available detail. Bokeh changes the appearance of out-of-focus points of light; Diamond is the official baseline, while the choice is aesthetic and does not cure incorrect shutter, aperture or focus settings.

- Drive to the challenge marker. Find the camera icon and position the car at its marker. Stop or move slowly if the challenge requires a clean, static composition.
- Enter Photo Mode and wait for the subject mask. The mask shows what the game is looking for. The cited practical guide describes framing as forgiving, so prioritize getting the required subject inside the mask rather than filling every pixel.
- Build the frame. Start around 50–85mm and a 30° field of view. Keep the required object away from extreme frame edges, where a wide lens can stretch its shape.
- Set shutter speed. Use a freezing value for a moving car, normally 1/500s or faster. For a stationary subject, use the lowest value that still looks crisp in the preview.
- Set aperture. Begin at f/5.6–f/9 for a full-subject sharp image. Open toward f/2.8–f/4 only when a soft background is more important than deep focus.
- Focus on the required subject. Use car or auto focus when it is unambiguous. Switch to manual focus for a landmark behind the car or any object that auto focus ignores.
- Refocus after composition changes. Moving the camera, zooming or changing the angle can shift the focus plane. Refocus and inspect the far and near edges of the required subject.
- Adjust exposure. Use the tire-versus-rear-fender test. Preserve texture in bright paint and enough shadow detail to identify the required object.
- Hide the interface if detection fails. If the challenge does not register, hide the UI, confirm that the required subject is inside the on-screen mask, refocus and take the photo again.
- Capture and verify the save flow. Photos remain in the in-game gallery. Save & Share can upload to the linked account, while the platform’s screenshot key creates a local capture. These are software and platform functions; no physical camera or accessory is required.
Presets for common Photo Challenge situations

How to choose between sharpness, blur and background focus

Evaluate each preset on four axes: whether the required subject is sharp, whether enough of the scene is in focus, whether highlights and shadows retain detail, and whether focal length or FOV makes the car and landmark look natural.

Final pre-capture checklist
- The required car or object is fully inside the challenge mask.
- The shutter visibly freezes the subject; 1/30–1/60 is used only for intentional motion streaks.
- Aperture is high enough that every required part remains sharp.
- Focus was set after the final camera move.
- The tire can be distinguished from the rear fender.
- Bright paint and sky still show texture.
- The focal length and FOV do not distort the required object at the frame edge.
- Sampling is set to Quality.
- You know whether you want an in-game gallery upload through Save & Share or a local platform screenshot.
Bottom line
Sharp Photo Challenge pictures come from controlling motion first, depth of field second, and composition third. Use a freezing shutter, raise aperture toward f/5.6–f/9 when the whole subject matters, refocus after every camera change, and judge exposure by visible tire and body detail. Keep the required subject inside the mask, then verify the save method that matches where you want the finished image.
