If you mean a phone that takes up less space in a pocket, compare flip-style models instead; they fold to a shorter shape but are thicker.
Which kind of foldable is easiest to carry?
Start with the shape you want when the phone is closed. A book-style foldable stays roughly phone-height when folded and opens into a much larger, tablet-like display. A flip-style foldable folds a conventional phone in half, making a shorter package, but the hinge adds thickness.
So “pocketable” can mean two different things: a slim book-style phone that still opens into a large screen, or a compact flip with a shorter closed footprint. Decide which matters more before comparing millimeters.

Best thin book-style choice: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8
Samsung lists the Fold8 at 201 g and 9.7 mm thick when folded, with a 7.6-inch inner screen. Those specifications make it the strongest candidate here if you want a large display when open without the greater listed weight of the Fold7. Samsung describes it as “Pocketable when folded, expansive when opened”; that is manufacturer product copy, not an independent comfort finding.
The important qualification is review status. TechRadar’s guide, updated July 24, 2026, says it needs to review the announced Fold8 family before changing its rankings. Treat the Fold8 as a specification-led recommendation, not a proven winner for real-world comfort, durability, crease visibility, cameras or battery life.
Best established book-style comparison: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7
The Fold7 is a useful choice if you prefer a model with independent review context over the Fold8’s newer specification profile. Samsung lists its folded dimensions as 72.8 × 158.4 × 8.9 mm and its unfolded thickness as 4.2 mm; the unfolded figure excludes the main-screen frame. TechRadar’s guide lists its weight as 215 g and ranks it best overall.
TechRadar flags the Fold7’s high price and lack of S Pen support. Whether the Fold8’s 14 g lower listed weight and thinner folded body justify choosing a model whose cited guide review status is pending depends on your priorities and local pricing.

Choose a flip if a shorter pocket shape matters more
The Galaxy Z Flip7 and Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 trade a slim book-style profile for a shorter closed package. Their listed folded thicknesses are 13.7 mm and 15.7 mm, respectively, so neither is the pick for minimizing body thickness. They may make more sense if a shorter phone is easier to fit in the pockets you use.
The Razr Ultra is a comparison point if you value its large external display: Motorola lists a 7-inch inner screen as well. Consider how useful each model’s outer display and closed-mode software will be if you expect to use the phone mostly while folded.

What to check before buying
- Compare weight with thickness. A thin phone can still feel cumbersome if it is heavy; a lighter model may be easier to carry even if it is slightly thicker.
- Look beyond body depth. Width, height, hinge shape, camera island and any case all affect the space a folded phone occupies. Huawei explicitly excludes the Mate X6 camera module from its folded-depth figure.
- Check the cover screen and closed-mode software. For a flip, the outside display can determine how much you can do without opening the phone; for a book-style foldable, check whether the cover display suits everyday use.
- Do not infer endurance from battery capacity alone. Samsung lists a 4,800 mAh battery for the Fold8, but capacity by itself does not establish battery life.
- Verify availability and support in your country. For an imported model, confirm supported network bands, warranty, repairs, software updates and the seller’s return policy. TechRadar’s guide flags limited Find N5 availability in the US, UK and Europe.
- Separate specifications from tested judgments. Official dimensions can help shortlist devices; comfort, durability, crease, camera quality and battery life require relevant review evidence.
