Fortnite, Fall Guys, Rocket League, Minecraft, and Apex Legends are strong cross-platform picks for different kinds of streams: party play, quick team competition, creative builds, and squad battles. The right choice depends on the exact devices, game mode, and matchmaking pool your group needs—“cross-platform” does not guarantee every edition or platform combination works together.
Best cross-platform games to stream
| Game | Best fit for a stream | What cross-play is documented | Check before you play |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fortnite | Battle royale, party sessions, and varied experiences | Epic identifies Fortnite among its first-party cross-platform, cross-play titles and describes battle royale and other experiences. | Confirm the particular mode and the group’s platform combination; support can differ by experience. |
| Fall Guys | Casual party competition | Epic lists Fall Guys among its cross-platform, cross-play first-party titles. | Check current platform availability and the mode your group plans to use. |
| Rocket League | Fast, easy-to-follow team competition | Epic says players on Epic Games Store, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam can matchmake together in online match types. Private matches across platforms are supported, and cross-play is enabled by default. | If cross-play is unavailable, check the Cross-Platform Play box in Gameplay settings. |
| Minecraft | Building, sandbox play, and community events | Minecraft describes cross-platform compatibility as playing with friends on different devices. | Verify edition compatibility for the exact devices in your group; the general overview does not establish every device pairing or edition combination. |
| Apex Legends | Competitive squad action | EA lists PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through EA App or Steam. Its FAQ says these platforms can party together. | A console player who parties with a PC player is matched into PC games. Cross-play is enabled by default, and Xbox also has a system setting that must be on. |
For official platform and cross-play details, see Epic’s cross-play overview, Epic Support’s Rocket League instructions, EA’s Apex FAQ, and Minecraft’s overview.
How to choose for your group
- Start with the platform pair. Write down what everyone plays on—PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, or mobile—and check the game’s current official support details for that combination.
- Check the mode and matchmaking pool. Cross-play may be available in one mode but not another, and a mixed-platform party can be placed in a different pool. Apex’s console-PC rule is an important example.
- Decide what makes a good stream for your group. Party-focused play suits a loose, social session; Rocket League offers clear, quick team rounds; Minecraft supports building and community events; Apex is the competitive squad option.
- Set up the party before going live. Confirm everyone can join the same lobby or private match, check cross-play settings, and agree on voice chat and the mode before the stream begins.
- Check cost and account requirements at the official destination. EA describes Apex as free to download and play, subject to platform and account conditions and in-game purchases. Microsoft’s Xbox cross-platform multiplayer catalog can help discover titles, but it is not a substitute for confirming a specific game’s support.
What cross-platform means—and what it does not
Cross-play means players on different supported devices can play together. It is not a promise that every version, edition, mode, region, or platform pairing is compatible. Epic’s overview discusses play across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms, but the individual game’s support is what matters for your particular group.
For a clear example of platform-specific matchmaking, EA says Apex parties that mix console and PC players enter PC matches. Minecraft’s official overview confirms cross-device play as a feature, but does not establish every edition-to-device pairing. Check those details before planning a stream around a specific group.

What about Overwatch?
Blizzard has published an explanation of Overwatch cross-play and custom games, including separate competitive PC and console pools and mixed parties entering the PC pool. That explanation is historical; verify the current rules before treating it as a present-day recommendation.
Will a popular game bring viewers?
A recognizable title can give viewers a quick idea of what a stream is about, but a game’s cross-play support or popularity does not guarantee an audience for a new channel. Twitch reported that viewers watched 8.6 billion hours of gaming content globally from January 1 through September 1, 2026; the figure is rounded and was shared by Twitch Chief Product Officer Mike Minton in the company’s 2026 State of Gaming post. It describes aggregate viewing, not expected viewers for an individual stream.
