You assign followers, run production, expand cities across islands and perform rituals while pursuing the awakening of an Old One. The follower decision is especially relevant to Myths from the Maw. This makes Sunless Sea a useful companion to Myths from the Maw if the announced descent into an abyss is what interests you most. It captures the emotional structure of leaving a secure world, venturing into an environment that does not care whether you return and deciding when curiosity has become recklessness.
