What to check before choosing
Does it loop prerecorded video continuously?
For sleep sounds, confirm that the service can play uploaded video or a playlist continuously, not merely encode a live camera or file input. Ask how it handles the end of a file, playlist transitions, scheduled restarts, and a dropped YouTube connection. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded streaming, but that listing does not establish comparative reliability.
Who monitors and recovers the stream?
A successful initial connection does not prove a stream will run unattended. Check whether the service monitors the outgoing broadcast, reconnects after YouTube drops it, and alerts you when manual action is needed. With self-built cloud infrastructure, identify which component detects a failure and restarts the channel or encoder.
What is the full cost at your audience size?

Google Cloud Live Stream API: encoding with a cloud workflow around it
Google Cloud bills Live Stream API channels based on active time and input/output resolution. Its current pricing page, accessed October 3, 2026, specifies a ten-minute minimum charge and rounds active duration to the nearest minute. That is the channel-encoding charge model, not a complete estimate for publishing a YouTube stream or delivering it to viewers.

Google’s quota documentation says a channel in a streaming state may be restarted after 24 hours. A 24/7 design therefore needs a plan for continuity across that restart and for recovery if the stream or an associated component fails. Before committing, establish how your design will loop the prerecorded content, send the output to YouTube, monitor stream health, and restore service after a restart. Do not assume the Live Stream API alone handles those jobs.
AWS live-video workflow: flexible components, more decisions
AWS describes a 24×7 architecture using Elemental MediaLive to encode output, MediaStore or MediaPackage as an origin, and CloudFront to distribute the video. This is a workflow made from separate components, not a single managed looping service. You must account for how prerecorded assets enter the pipeline, how the output reaches YouTube, what monitors failures, and how each component is configured and billed.
AWS’s published illustration for one hour of SD-540p live video in US East (N. Virginia), with approximately 1,000 viewers, estimates about $69.74 total: about $2.50 for encoding and packaging and $67.24 for distribution of 791 GB. This is a specific example, not a forecast or quote for a 24/7 sleep stream. A different duration, region, resolution, or audience can produce a very different bill; use the current AWS pricing information for your scenario.
Set YouTube ingest settings for a stable stream
YouTube requires an encoder to send a live stream. Its encoder documentation recommends RTMPS and currently lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR) encoding; and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Match the encoder and service settings to YouTube’s current requirements rather than assuming every provider default is suitable.

These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not evidence that a higher bitrate improves a static sleep-sounds image. Choose a resolution and bitrate that fit the visual presentation and available upload capacity. YouTube says it transcodes live streams into viewer output formats, so the encoder’s input settings do not directly dictate every viewer’s playback format.
Before leaving a broadcast unattended
- Use RTMPS and a compatible video and audio codec, CBR bitrate mode, and the recommended keyframe interval.
- Confirm the service is sending the correct YouTube server URL and stream key. Treat the key as a credential and do not expose it publicly.
- Test with representative audio and movement, then check YouTube’s stream-health indicators before relying on continuous playback.
- Listen for uninterrupted sleep audio and verify the image and playlist transitions behave as intended.
- Check the service’s reconnect and recovery behavior, including what happens after a long run or a YouTube-side interruption.
YouTube says first-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours. Enable it and test well before a planned launch rather than treating the first stream attempt as a same-day setup step.

A managed service trades some architectural flexibility for less infrastructure work and a clearer recurring slot price. A cloud video pipeline gives you more control over components, but you must budget for the complete workflow and own its monitoring and recovery. In either case, estimate against realistic channel hours, chosen resolution, storage, region, and expected concurrent viewing or delivery volume.

The broadcast disconnects or stops after running
Check YouTube stream health and the service’s logs or alerts. Determine whether the encoder, cloud channel, origin, or delivery component stopped, and confirm whether it attempted a reconnect. Google Cloud’s documentation notes that an active streaming channel may be restarted after 24 hours, so a Google-based design needs an explicit continuity and recovery plan for that event.
Audio drops, loops badly, or has an unexpected gap
Test the actual uploaded recording and playlist sequence, not just a short sample. Confirm audio codec compatibility, listen at transitions, and monitor the stream after launch. A stable video connection alone does not establish uninterrupted audio playback.
The cloud bill is higher than expected
Separate encoding/channel charges from origin or packaging charges and viewer delivery. AWS’s one-hour example illustrates how distribution can outweigh encoding and packaging costs. Recalculate with your actual viewing volume, resolution, operating hours, and region rather than extrapolating from another provider’s example.
