The right choice depends on whether your video is already encoded or needs real-time encoding, your chosen bitrate, and the server’s monthly outbound-transfer allowance. Amazon Lightsail is a documented VPS candidate, but its Mumbai plans include half the transfer allowance shown in its general bundle table. Check that limit against your stream before choosing a plan.
If you want a server you manage, compare VPS capacity, transfer, and recovery. What “best” means for a 24/7 meditation stream
A server sending a stream to YouTube is an encoder or relay, not the system delivering video to every viewer. YouTube receives the incoming feed and transcodes it into formats for different devices and network conditions. That means the VPS must sustain a reliable upload to YouTube’s ingest service; it does not need to serve your audience’s viewing traffic.
For a continuous stream, estimate the outbound data first. At a constant bitrate of 4 Mbps, the video alone sends roughly 1.3 TB over 30 days (4 megabits per second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8). At 10 Mbps, the corresponding video payload is roughly 3.2 TB. These are approximate calculations, not provider billing quotes; audio, protocol overhead, reconnects, and the provider’s transfer-counting rules can change the billed total. Leave headroom rather than sizing to the exact estimate.

- Already-encoded source or stream copy: a relay or playlist workflow can use less CPU than transcoding, though it still needs continuous network capacity.
- Real-time encoding: size CPU for the resolution, frame rate, codec, and encoder settings. Lightsail’s FAQ points users who need consistently high CPU performance, including for video encoding, toward EC2.
- Recovery: plan for encoder restarts, server reboots, network interruptions, and YouTube ingest drops. A service that has a session limit also needs a scheduled restart strategy.
- Region: choose based on a reliable route to YouTube ingest and convenient administration. An India-based audience alone does not prove the encoder must be in India, because YouTube handles viewer delivery in this arrangement.
- All-in cost: include the instance, transfer overages, storage, IP, taxes, and any managed encoding charges. A published base price is not a guarantee of the final bill.
Options for keeping the stream running

Amazon Lightsail: a candidate, not a universal winner
Lightsail bundles combine compute, RAM, SSD storage, and a transfer allowance. AWS’s published general bundle table lists a Linux public-IPv4 plan at $24 USD per month with 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB SSD, and 4 TB of transfer. That is a current listing figure, not a total-cost guarantee or a performance test for your stream. AWS says Mumbai-region plans include half the general transfer allowance, so do not assume the general-table transfer figure applies in Mumbai.
Lightsail’s transfer FAQ says both inbound and outbound instance transfer count toward the allowance; excess outbound transfer may incur charges. Review the current plan details and transfer terms for the region you select. For high and consistent CPU use such as real-time video encoding, AWS recommends considering EC2 instead of Lightsail. Set YouTube encoder settings for a steady feed
YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingest. RTMPS is RTMP over an SSL connection; use the RTMPS ingest details shown for your YouTube stream when your encoder supports it. YouTube’s encoder guidance calls for constant bitrate and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, with four seconds as the maximum. It lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for video and AAC or MP3 for audio. Check the current YouTube settings page for the selected codec and resolution before configuring an encoder.

Plan for session limits and recovery
A process that runs indefinitely is not enough if the ingest session or managed service has a time limit. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API quota documentation says a channel session lasts 24 hours after it starts and may be restarted if it remains in a streaming state. A 24/7 design using that API therefore needs a reliable restart plan and should be checked against current quotas and usage-based pricing.
For a VPS setup, arrange process supervision so the encoder or relay restarts after a crash, configure the service to start after a server reboot, and monitor the YouTube stream’s health. Test what happens when the network briefly drops and when the source playlist reaches its end. The exact setup depends on the operating system and encoder you choose; the provider plan alone does not supply a complete recovery design.

Read Google’s current Live Stream API quotas and limits before committing to a managed pipeline. AWS also documents a larger 24×7 delivery architecture using MediaLive and CloudFront; its video streaming guide is useful context, but a YouTube-bound stream does not automatically require that audience-distribution stack.

Being live continuously does not grant permission to use the audio or video in the stream. Use recordings, music, images, and other material only when you own the rights or have permission covering the intended use, including continuous YouTube streaming. Keep records of licenses and check their territory, duration, and platform terms. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from whether the technical stream is online; a technically healthy feed can still face a claim or restriction.
For uploaded meditation recordings, review the copyright safety checklist before broadcasting. Avoid assuming that a loop, a long runtime, or a live label changes the rights status of reused material.

Troubleshooting a continuous stream
- YouTube shows no incoming feed: verify the RTMPS server URL and stream key in the encoder, check that the key is current, and confirm the server can reach the ingest endpoint.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: check sustained upload capacity, bitrate stability, server resource use, and the process supervisor’s logs. Confirm that restart handling reconnects to YouTube rather than merely restarting the local process.
- The server exceeds its transfer allowance: recalculate monthly outbound use from the actual bitrate and runtime, then check the regional allowance and whether the provider counts inbound transfer too. Lightsail’s Mumbai transfer allowance is half the general bundle amount.
- Encoding overload or dropped frames: distinguish a real-time transcode from a stream copy. Real-time encoding can require sustained CPU; consider a higher, suitable compute configuration or a managed pipeline rather than assuming a basic VPS can handle every format.
- A managed channel stops after a day: if using Google Cloud Live Stream API, include its documented 24-hour session behavior in the restart design and verify current quota conditions.
- The image or audio is not as expected: verify codec support, resolution, frame rate, CBR, keyframe interval, and audio codec against YouTube’s current encoder guidance.
