The sharpest photo from a 108MP phone usually comes from the regular Photo mode on the main 1× camera—not from leaving 108MP enabled all the time. Tap the most important detail to focus, keep the phone steady, use a fast enough shutter for movement, and add light before raising ISO. Switch to 108MP only when light is strong, the subject is still, and you need to crop heavily or make a large print. In low light, the phone’s lower-resolution pixel-binned mode, Night mode and stabilisation often produce a cleaner, sharper result.
What to set first on any 108MP phone
Before changing advanced controls, make the capture conditions predictable. The following sequence works across most camera apps, although labels and features vary by manufacturer and model.
- Clean the lens. Fingerprints and pocket film scatter light, reduce contrast and make fine detail look soft. Wipe the main camera glass with a clean microfibre cloth.
- Use the main 1× camera. It normally has the largest sensor and best stabilisation on the phone. Avoid digital zoom when you can move closer; if the phone has a separate optical telephoto camera, select that lens instead of enlarging a 1× image digitally.
- Tap the key subject. Put the focus point on the eye, text, product edge or other detail that must be crisp. The phone may also adjust exposure at that point.
- Lock focus and exposure when the app supports it. A lock prevents the camera from refocusing or changing brightness between frames, which is useful for a sequence, a document or a subject that keeps moving within the frame.
- Hold the phone securely. Use both hands, keep elbows close to your body and press the shutter gently. A wall, table or tripod is better still for static scenes.
- Choose the normal pixel-binned Photo mode first. It combines neighbouring pixels to produce a smaller file with better light-gathering and processing efficiency. Test 108MP only after the ordinary mode gives you a stable, well-focused preview.
There is no universal “best” ISO or shutter value for every 108MP handset. Sensor size, lens aperture, stabilisation, processor and camera software all change the result. Treat the settings below as decision rules, then check the model’s own camera controls.
108MP mode versus normal pixel-binned mode
A 108MP file contains more recorded pixels, but more pixels do not automatically mean more visible detail. High-resolution capture makes small focus errors, hand movement and lens softness easier to see. It can also use more storage and take longer to process. Normal mode may apply HDR, multi-frame noise reduction and night processing that are reduced or unavailable in the phone’s 108MP mode.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
| Decision factor | Normal pixel-binned Photo mode | 108MP/high-resolution mode |
|---|---|---|
| Available light | Better default in dim, mixed or changing light because the larger effective pixels and computational processing usually produce a cleaner exposure. | Best in strong, even light; noise and softness become more obvious as light falls. |
| Subject motion | Preferred for people, pets, children and moving objects because processing and exposure are generally quicker. | Use only when the subject can remain still; a moving subject can create blur that extra resolution cannot fix. |
| Hand stability | More forgiving of small shakes. | Requires a very steady grip; a tripod or solid surface helps for static subjects. |
| Cropping or large prints | Enough for ordinary sharing and moderate crops. | Useful when you need to crop deeply or retain detail for a large print, provided focus and motion are controlled. |
| Noise tolerance | Pixel binning can hide noise and preserve usable colour in lower light. | Fine noise and missed detail are easier to inspect at 100%. |
| Processing and storage | Usually faster to save and smaller to store. | Usually creates a larger file and may take longer to save or edit. |
| HDR and night processing | Often receives the phone’s full computational pipeline. | Support differs by model; some phones limit HDR, Night mode or other multi-frame processing in 108MP mode. |
The practical rule is simple: use 108MP for a controlled, well-lit, still scene where the extra sampling solves a real cropping or printing need. Otherwise, normal mode is the safer route to a sharper finished image.
Best settings for daylight and still subjects
Start with focus and low ISO
In bright daylight, set the main camera to 1×, tap the most important detail and keep ISO as low as the camera allows while maintaining a properly exposed image. Oklahoma State University Extension gives ISO 100–200 as a suitable bright-day example and warns that higher ISO adds grain or noise. If your phone’s automatic mode already selects a low ISO, leave it there rather than forcing a manual value that makes the shutter unnecessarily slow.
When to turn on 108MP
Enable the high-resolution option for a building, landscape, artwork, product or other stationary subject when sunlight is strong and you can hold the phone steady. Frame carefully before shooting: a high-resolution file records more of the scene, but it does not rescue an incorrect focus point or a tilted composition. Review the result by zooming into fine edges, not just by looking at the thumbnail.
Prevent detail loss from zoom and movement
Do not pinch-zoom simply to fill the frame if you can walk closer. Digital enlargement spreads the same captured information over more pixels. If your phone offers an optical lens at a marked focal length, select it for distant detail. For a static subject, brace the phone against a solid object or use a tripod; even daylight movement can soften hair, text and architectural lines in 108MP mode.
Settings for people, pets and action
Prioritise shutter speed
When a subject moves, sharpness depends more on stopping motion than on recording 108 million pixels. Google Pixel Camera product manager Alex King explains: “If you set a faster shutter speed, you’ll get an effect that looks like you’re freezing motion.” Use the camera’s motion or action setting if it has one, or switch to a manual or Pro panel and shorten the shutter speed until the subject’s hands, face or paws stop smearing.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
A shorter shutter makes the image darker. Compensate by moving to brighter light, turning on available room lights or using a flash when it will not create harsh reflections. Raise ISO only after you have reached a shutter speed that freezes the movement you need. A slightly noisy sharp frame is normally more useful than a clean frame with motion blur.
Focus on the moving subject
Tap the subject before the action starts. If the camera offers subject tracking, enable it and keep the subject within the focus area. Focus lock is useful when the distance will remain constant, but locking focus on a person who is running toward you can leave the subject out of focus; in that case, tracking or continuous autofocus is preferable.

Use bursts selectively
Burst capture can improve the odds of getting one sharp frame during a blink or jump. Exact burst behaviour differs by phone and camera app, so check whether holding the shutter records a sequence, starts a video or triggers another shortcut. Review the frames at full size and keep the sharpest one rather than assuming the first image is best.
Low-light and night settings
Use Night mode for static scenes
Choose Night mode, Night Sight or the equivalent low-light mode when photographing a stationary scene after dark. Google’s Pixel Camera Help describes the principle directly: “When your device is steady, you can take a photo in low-light conditions and of the night sky without the flash.” Keep the phone untouched for the entire countdown and exposure. A railing, table or tripod is more reliable than hand-holding.
Google Research’s documented Night Sight implementation was designed for scenes from 3 lux down to 0.3 lux. It can capture and merge multiple frames—up to 15 frames handheld and up to six frames on a tripod in that implementation. Stabilisation allows a longer total exposure and improves signal-to-noise, but the phone model and camera app determine whether your device behaves the same way.

Keep the phone still during multi-frame capture
Do not move the phone when the shutter animation is still running. Use the self-timer to avoid touching the device, especially on a tripod. If the scene contains branches, traffic, people or another moving element, the merged frames can show ghosting or blur. In that situation, add light or use a faster exposure rather than extending the capture indefinitely.

For stars or very dark skies, place the phone on a stable surface or tripod, select the camera’s night-sky option if available, set the focus to the distant or far setting when the app provides one, and start the capture with a timer. Google documents a Far focus option for subjects more than four metres away in supported Pixel night-sky photography. Keep expectations model-specific: not every 108MP phone offers an equivalent control or computational mode.
Why 108MP is usually the wrong night choice
High-resolution mode generally gives up some of the pixel-binning and multi-frame processing that makes a small sensor usable in darkness. It also magnifies every vibration during a long exposure. Unless the phone explicitly supports its full night pipeline in 108MP mode and the subject is perfectly still, normal Night mode is the sharper choice.
Choosing ISO and shutter speed
| Control | What changing it does | Use it when | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shutter speed | A shorter time reduces motion blur; a longer time admits more light. | Shorten it for people, pets and handheld shots; lengthen it for a static scene on a tripod. | A short value can underexpose; a long value records hand or subject movement. |
| ISO | A higher value brightens the captured signal; a lower value keeps the image cleaner. | Raise it only after choosing the fastest shutter that gives the needed sharpness, or when the phone is stabilised and the subject is still. | Higher ISO increases grain and colour noise. |
For orientation, Oklahoma State University Extension cites ISO 100–200 for bright days and ISO 800–1600 for indoor or cloudy examples, with more grain at higher values. Those are examples, not a universal prescription. The best setting is the lowest ISO that still permits a shutter speed fast enough for the subject and a usable exposure.
Many phone apps do not expose full manual control, and some show shutter speed or ISO only in a Pro section. Google documents Pro Controls for focus, shutter speed and ISO on supported Pixel models. Other manufacturers may use different names, hide controls behind a More menu or omit them entirely. Identify the exact phone model before following a menu path; a setting shown in one camera app may not exist in another.

Focus and exposure control workflow
- Compose at 1×. Select the lens that will actually make the exposure; changing lenses after focusing can change the focus distance and brightness.
- Tap the critical detail. For a portrait, tap the nearer eye. For text, tap a central line of type. For a landscape, tap the important distant feature or use the phone’s infinity/far option if provided.
- Check the preview at the edges. Look for clipping highlights, crushed shadows and a focus point that landed behind the subject.
- Lock when the scene is stable. Use the camera’s focus/exposure lock gesture or button if available. This prevents refocusing between frames and keeps a series consistent.
- Track instead of locking when distance changes. A runner, child or approaching pet needs continuous autofocus or subject tracking if the phone supports it.
- Take several frames only when the scene justifies it. A short burst helps with unpredictable motion; for a static high-resolution shot, extra frames do not compensate for a shaky setup.
RAW: useful for editing, not for preventing blur
Google explains that RAW files are less compressed and retain more data than JPEG files, giving you more latitude for white balance, dynamic range and noise reduction. RAW is worthwhile when you plan to edit a difficult exposure or recover colour and shadow detail.
RAW cannot correct camera shake, missed focus or a moving subject. Capture the sharpest possible frame first, then choose RAW when editing flexibility matters. Expect larger files and a workflow that requires an app capable of opening and processing the format. If you only need a quick, shareable image, the phone’s processed JPEG or HEIF may be more practical.
Why 108MP photos look blurry and how to fix them
The lens or protective glass is dirty
Clean the camera glass and remove any film that has smeared across the lens area. Re-test a detailed subject in daylight before changing settings.
The phone moved during exposure
Use both hands, brace your wrists, enable stabilisation if the app offers it and shorten the shutter speed. For 108MP stills, use a tripod or solid support whenever possible.

Focus landed on the wrong plane
Tap the intended detail, inspect the focus point and lock it when the subject distance is stable. For changing distance, use tracking or continuous autofocus rather than a fixed lock.
Digital zoom enlarged a soft source image
Return to 1×, move closer or use the phone’s optical lens. Digital zoom cannot create detail that the sensor did not capture.
The light is too weak for high-resolution mode
Use normal pixel-binned Photo mode or Night mode, add illumination and keep the phone still. If you must retain a moving subject, favour a faster shutter and accept some ISO noise instead of allowing blur.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe 108MP mode lacks the normal camera’s processing
Compare the same static scene in normal and high-resolution modes. If normal mode has better HDR, noise reduction or night processing on your model, use it unless the 108MP file’s cropping benefit is essential.
A repeatable setup for common situations
Sunny landscape or architecture
- Main 1× camera.
- Tap a key edge or distant detail and lock focus/exposure if the scene is stable.
- ISO 100–200 is a reasonable bright-day starting range.
- Use 108MP only with a steady phone and a genuine need for heavy cropping or a large print.
- Review fine lines at 100% before leaving the scene.
Indoor portrait or pet
- Use normal Photo mode rather than 108MP unless the subject is unusually still.
- Move near a window or add light before raising ISO.
- Choose a shutter fast enough to stop the person or animal’s movement.
- Tap the nearer eye or use subject tracking; use burst capture if expressions or movement are unpredictable.
Night street scene with no moving subject
- Use Night mode on the main camera.
- Rest the phone on a stable surface, use a timer and do not touch it during capture.
- Keep 108MP off unless your model retains the required night processing and you can verify the result.
- Watch for moving lights or people that may ghost during frame merging.
Stars or a very dark sky
- Use the phone’s supported night-sky mode, if available.
- Tripod or solid support, self-timer and untouched exposure are essential.
- Select Far focus when the camera provides it for subjects beyond four metres.
- Expect model-specific limits; the documented Google implementation is not a specification for every 108MP phone.
Before you blame the megapixels
Sharpness is the result of focus accuracy, motion control, light, lens quality and processing. A 108MP label describes the sensor’s potential resolution, not a guaranteed output. In bright, controlled conditions it can preserve extra crop and print detail. In dim light or with moving subjects, pixel binning, stabilisation, faster shutter speeds and additional light usually matter more than selecting the largest file.
Use normal Photo mode as the dependable default, reserve 108MP for stable high-detail scenes, and let the phone’s Night mode handle dark static subjects. That workflow addresses the causes of blur instead of assuming that more pixels alone will make a photograph sharper.
