For most beginners, buy a current Windows 11 laptop with 16GB of RAM, an NVMe SSD and a 1080p display. Add a discrete graphics card if you expect to use Blender, build larger 3D scenes, or render lighting and animations. Treat 8GB as the practical floor for Roblox Studio, and choose 32GB—or a model with upgradeable memory—if Blender and heavy multitasking are part of your plan.
Roblox Studio itself has modest published requirements, but a development laptop also has to run a code editor, browser tabs, asset tools, source files and sometimes Blender at the same time. The right budget target is therefore higher than the minimum needed to launch Studio.
What laptop should you buy?
A sensible budget configuration for Roblox Studio and beginner 3D development is:
- Windows 11
- A recent mainstream mobile processor
- 16GB RAM, preferably in replaceable modules
- A 500GB NVMe SSD at minimum; 1TB is more comfortable
- A 15-inch or 16-inch 1920×1080 display
- Integrated graphics for Studio and simple modeling, or a discrete RTX-class GPU for Blender, dense scenes and rendering
If you want one concrete configuration to use as a shopping reference, Creative Bloq’s budget game-development pick is a Lenovo LOQ 15i Gen 10 with a Ryzen 5 220 processor, Nvidia RTX 5050 graphics, 16GB DDR5 memory, a 500GB SSD and a 15-inch 1920×1080 144Hz screen. The cited configuration was approximately £699/$899 in 2026. That is a review configuration, not a universal specification for every LOQ 15i Gen 10 listing, so verify the exact processor, GPU wattage, memory arrangement, SSD, display and warranty before paying.
#1 Best Overall
No reproducible Roblox Studio benchmark is supplied for that exact laptop. It is reasonable to treat it as a strong starting point for the stated workload, not as a promise of a particular frame rate.
Roblox Studio and Blender requirements: minimum versus comfortable
Roblox Creator Hub lists Windows 10 and macOS 10.14 as minimum operating systems, with Windows 11 and macOS 14 or newer recommended. It lists 3GB of RAM as a minimum, 8GB as recommended and a display resolution of at least 1600×900. Roblox’s broader hardware guidance calls for DirectX 10 or higher on Windows, a recent processor and says best performance comes from a computer less than five years old with a dedicated video card, or a laptop less than three years old with integrated graphics.
Those figures describe whether Studio can run; they do not describe a comfortable development session with several applications open. Blender’s published guidance lists 8GB RAM minimum and 32GB recommended. Blender 4.5 LTS also has documented operating-system and GPU support limits, so check the requirements for the specific Blender release you install.
Recommended Free Tools
| Workload | Published or practical target | What it means when shopping |
|---|---|---|
| Roblox Studio launch | 3GB RAM minimum | Do not buy to this number alone; the operating system and your other applications need headroom. |
| Roblox Studio recommended memory | 8GB RAM | Usable for basic projects, but restrictive once you add a browser, editor, graphics tools and larger places. |
| Studio plus scripting and browser tools | 16GB RAM | The practical beginner starting point for everyday work. |
| Blender | 8GB minimum; 32GB recommended | Choose 32GB or an upgradeable laptop if Blender is a regular part of your workflow. |
| Display | 1600×900 or higher recommended by Roblox | 1920×1080 is the sensible baseline because Studio panels, scripts and 3D view need room. |
| Graphics API | DirectX 10 or higher on Windows | Confirm that the laptop’s graphics driver supports the API required by your software. |
Roblox Studio is bundled with the Roblox engine, so the environment uses the same engine that players encounter in published games. A laptop that launches Studio can still feel slow when editing a large place, previewing effects or switching between tools.
How much RAM do you need?
8GB: the floor, not the goal
Eight gigabytes can be enough for a small Studio project and a limited number of background applications. It becomes uncomfortable when Windows, Studio, a code editor, documentation tabs, image tools and an asset pipeline are open together. When physical memory fills, the system uses the SSD as virtual memory, which is much slower and can make editing feel unresponsive.
16GB: the best budget starting point
Sixteen gigabytes gives Studio, Luau scripting tools and normal browser use useful breathing room. It is the capacity to target when buying a new budget laptop unless the machine is unusually inexpensive and you have a clear upgrade plan. Check whether the advertised 16GB is one module or two, because a single module can affect memory bandwidth and an empty slot may make a future upgrade easier.

32GB: the Blender and multitasking target
Blender’s recommendation is 32GB. More memory is valuable when you keep Studio, Blender, reference material, image editing and a source-control client open, or when meshes and textures become more detailed. A laptop with two accessible memory slots is often a better long-term purchase than a slightly faster model with soldered memory that cannot be expanded.

Do you need a graphics card?
Integrated graphics
Integrated graphics can be adequate for Roblox Studio, scripting and simple modeling. They share system memory, so the amount and configuration of RAM matter. Integrated graphics are attractive when portability, lower noise and battery life matter more than rendering speed.
Discrete graphics
A discrete GPU provides more headroom for Blender viewport navigation, lighting previews, higher-quality effects and rendering. It is also useful when a Roblox place contains many objects, particles, shadows or post-processing effects. An RTX-class mobile GPU is a sensible target for a budget machine intended to grow beyond basic Studio work.
GPU names alone are not enough. Laptop manufacturers can ship the same GPU with different power limits, cooling systems and memory sizes. Compare the exact SKU and published wattage where available. A discrete GPU also increases weight, fan noise, heat and power consumption, so do not pay for one if your projects will remain small and portability is your priority.
CPU, cooling and sustained performance
Choose a recent mainstream processor rather than an old high-end chip. Roblox’s general guidance asks for a recent processor, but a minimum clock speed is not a guarantee of smooth performance in a large scene. Studio scripting, importing assets and compiling code can all benefit from current CPU architecture and multiple cores.
Cooling determines whether a laptop can maintain performance after several minutes of work. Thin machines may be fast in a short burst and then reduce clocks as heat builds. Look for a chassis with clear intake and exhaust paths, and read the manufacturer’s documentation for its performance modes. A laptop that is quiet and cool during light work may become noticeably louder during Blender rendering; that behavior is normal for this class of hardware.

Storage: why 500GB is workable but 1TB is easier
Prefer an NVMe SSD. It makes Windows startup, application launches, project indexing and asset browsing substantially more responsive than a mechanical hard drive. Five hundred gigabytes is enough to begin, but the operating system, applications, Blender caches, texture libraries, exported builds and backups consume space faster than many first-time buyers expect.
A 1TB SSD reduces that pressure and leaves room for local project history and recovery copies. If your budget only allows 500GB, check whether the laptop has a second M.2 slot or an accessible replacement drive. Confirm the interface and physical size before buying an upgrade; not every laptop accepts every NVMe module.
Display, size and portability trade-offs
Roblox recommends 1600×900 or higher. A 1920×1080 panel is a practical baseline because it gives Studio’s explorer, properties, script editor and 3D viewport usable space without the scaling issues that can occur at very high resolutions on a budget GPU.
A 15-inch or 16-inch screen is a useful compromise for development. A 14-inch model is easier to carry but can make multi-panel layouts cramped. Larger screens improve visibility yet add weight. High refresh rates such as 144Hz can make camera movement feel smoother, but refresh rate does not replace GPU performance and should not take priority over RAM, SSD capacity or cooling.
Consider keyboard quality, trackpad accuracy, external-monitor support and port selection. A wired network port can simplify large downloads and remote testing; USB-A and USB-C ports are useful for drives, controllers and accessories. These are practical workflow considerations rather than Roblox requirements.
The Lenovo LOQ 15i Gen 10 configuration as a budget reference
The cited Lenovo LOQ 15i Gen 10 configuration combines a Ryzen 5 220, RTX 5050, 16GB DDR5, 500GB SSD and a 15-inch 1920×1080 144Hz display at approximately £699/$899 in Creative Bloq’s 2026 coverage. On paper, it matches the recommended starting profile: 16GB for Studio multitasking, a discrete GPU for Blender headroom, an SSD and a suitable resolution.

Use the configuration as a checklist, not as a reason to buy a family name without inspecting the listing. Laptop lines frequently ship with different CPUs, GPUs, display panels, memory layouts and storage capacities under nearly identical names. Before ordering, verify:
- The exact CPU model, not just the processor family.
- The discrete GPU model, VRAM and power limit if listed.
- Whether 16GB is installed as one module or two, and whether slots are accessible.
- The SSD capacity and whether a second storage slot exists.
- The panel resolution, refresh rate and brightness.
- The included operating system and warranty terms.
- The current price in your country; the cited £699/$899 figure is approximate and may not match your market or later listings.
Choosing alternatives when the named configuration is unavailable
Instead of comparing laptop family names, filter by the workload you actually expect.
| Your plan | Prioritize | Acceptable compromise |
|---|---|---|
| Studio, Luau and small places | 16GB RAM, current CPU, NVMe SSD, 1080p screen | Integrated graphics and 500GB storage |
| Studio plus beginner Blender modeling | 16GB upgradeable RAM, discrete GPU, good cooling | 500GB SSD initially, if a larger drive can be added |
| Blender scenes, lighting and rendering | 32GB RAM, discrete RTX-class GPU, 1TB SSD, sustained cooling | Heavier chassis and shorter battery life |
| Frequent travel | Lower weight, efficient CPU, 16GB RAM and SSD | Integrated graphics and smaller screen |
When two models cost about the same, favor upgradeable memory and storage over a cosmetic feature. A slightly less powerful GPU paired with 32GB of accessible RAM can be more useful for Blender multitasking than a faster GPU trapped behind 8GB of soldered memory.
A beginner workflow: Studio first, Blender when needed
Roblox’s official getting-started material teaches a simple 3D platformer. It also explains that learners interested in 3D modeling can use Blender with Studio to make a basic 3D accessory. That supports a staged learning path rather than requiring an expensive workstation on day one.
Stage 1: build and script in Studio
- Install Roblox Studio on a supported Windows or Mac system.
- Start with a small template or an empty place so you can learn the Explorer, Properties and 3D viewport without a large asset set.
- Use Luau scripts for movement, interactions, scoring and simple game rules.
- Keep a browser or documentation window open, but watch memory usage if the laptop has only 8GB.
- Save versions of the place regularly and keep a separate copy of important assets.
Stage 2: add simple custom assets
- Install the Blender release that matches your operating system and GPU support.
- Model a small, low-complexity object such as an accessory rather than starting with a complete environment.
- Keep polygon counts, texture sizes and modifier stacks modest while learning.
- Export the asset in a format supported by your Studio workflow, then import it into a test place.
- Check scale, orientation, materials, collision behavior and performance before using the asset in a larger project.
Stage 3: expand only when the project demands it
Move to 32GB RAM, a larger SSD or a discrete GPU when you can identify the bottleneck: memory pressure, slow viewport interaction, long renders, insufficient storage or sustained thermal throttling. Upgrading in response to a real constraint is more efficient than buying workstation-class hardware before you know what you need.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying the cheapest 8GB model
It may satisfy Studio’s published recommendation, but browser tabs and creative tools can consume the remaining capacity quickly. Choose 16GB or verify that a second memory module can be installed at a reasonable cost.

Manufacturers reuse product names across multiple configurations. Read the complete specification and model number on the retailer’s page.
Paying for a gaming GPU while ignoring RAM and storage
A powerful GPU does not compensate for memory pressure or a nearly full SSD. For beginner work, a balanced 16GB system with an SSD is usually a better experience than a GPU-heavy system with 8GB and minimal storage.
Expecting a fixed frame rate
Scene complexity, scripts, shadows, particles, resolution, drivers and thermal limits all affect performance. The available evidence does not provide a reproducible frame-rate test for the cited Lenovo configuration, so treat any exact FPS claim as unverified.

Ignoring Blender’s release-specific support
Blender 4.5 LTS documents its own GPU and operating-system limits. Check the requirements for the exact release you install instead of assuming that a laptop capable of running Studio supports every Blender feature.
Maintenance for a smoother development experience
- Keep Windows, graphics drivers and Roblox Studio current while avoiding optional driver software you do not need.
- Leave free SSD space for updates, caches and temporary exports.
- Use the laptop on a hard surface so intake vents are not blocked.
- Close unused launchers, browser windows and render jobs when editing a demanding place.
- Back up project files and exported assets to a separate drive or trusted storage.
- Watch Task Manager during a slowdown: high memory use points toward a RAM limit, a full or busy disk points toward storage pressure, and sustained high temperatures suggest a cooling or power-mode limit.
Bottom line
For Roblox Studio alone, the official requirements are low. For a beginner who wants to script, use browser-based references and grow into Blender, 16GB RAM, an NVMe SSD and a 1080p Windows 11 laptop are the practical baseline. Choose 32GB or an upgrade path for Blender, and choose a discrete GPU when custom meshes, dense scenes, lighting or rendering are part of the plan. The Lenovo LOQ 15i Gen 10 configuration cited above is a useful budget-shopping reference at approximately £699/$899 in the stated 2026 coverage, but verify the exact listing and current local price before buying.
