Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you need affordable URL-to-image capture rather than a managed browser session, start with ScreenshotNeo: it bills only clean shots, offers 1,000 free screenshots a month without a card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. ApiFlash is another straightforward screenshot-focused option; Urlbox may suit workloads that need higher-tier access and business controls. Browserless is worth considering when screenshots are one part of a broader hosted-browser workflow. BrowserCat itself is different: it routes Playwright, Puppeteer, or CDP browser sessions, with billing based on successful Utility API requests or websocket time.
Best BrowserCat alternatives for affordable screenshot APIs
These services overlap, but they do not all sell the same thing. Screenshot APIs turn a URL into an image or document. Managed-browser services provide a browser session or browser automation endpoint, which you can use to take screenshots among other tasks. Choose by the work you need done, the unit you are billed for, and the page behavior your capture requires—not by the headline quota alone.
| Provider | Best fit | Published price or billing basis | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | Clean screenshot and PDF capture with usage transparency | Free: 1,000 shots/month; Starter: $5 for 3,000; Growth: $15 for 15,000; Pro: $39 for 60,000; Scale: $99 for 250,000; Business: $249 for 1,000,000 | Cookie/consent banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; failed or unsuitable page outcomes and cache hits are not billed. |
| ApiFlash | Conventional URL-to-image capture at published entry-level prices | Free: 100 screenshots/month; $7/month for 1,000; $35/month for 10,000; $180/month for 100,000 | Chrome-based screenshot API with mobile/full-page capture and options such as ad blocking, cookie-banner hiding, and S3 export. |
| Urlbox | Screenshot workloads where access, rate, render, or storage needs differ by tier | Lo-Fi: $19/month for up to 2,000 renders; Hi-Fi: $49 for 5,000; Ultra: $99 for 15,000; Business: $498; Enterprise from $3,000/month | Third-party access, request rates, render capabilities, storage, and quota treatment vary by tier and request method. |
| Browserless | Teams already using hosted browser automation that also need screenshots | Not stated in the cited screenshot documentation: Browserless screenshot API documentation | POST /screenshot accepts a URL or inline HTML and supports standard screenshot options, including element targeting. |

Why look beyond BrowserCat?
BrowserCat describes itself as a managed browser router. You connect a Playwright, Puppeteer, or CDP client to wss://api.browsercat.com/connect; its router selects a managed backend according to capabilities, cost, and region. It advertises automatic failover and usage-based pricing. That is useful if you want to run browser automation and control the capture yourself, but it is not the same product category as a simple screenshot endpoint. See BrowserCat.

- 16MP Sensor: Captures detailed photos with a CMOS sensor for everyday shooting
- Optical Zoom: 4x optical zoom with a 27mm wide angle lens for flexible framing indoors or outdoors
- Full HD Video: Records 1080p video for travel clips, family moments, or simple vlogging
- Memory Support: Works with Class 10 SD, SDHC, or SDXC cards up to 512GB
- LCD Screen and Battery: 2.7in LCD screen with 2 AA alkaline batteries for convenient on-the-go use
Its billing also differs from a monthly screenshot quota. According to the BrowserCat FAQ, a successful Utility API request costs one credit, while websocket activity costs one credit per 30 seconds, rounded up. The FAQ says overage credits cost more than included credits and describes soft and hard usage limits. It does not establish a universal public dollar value per credit; check the account dashboard for the applicable breakdown rather than estimating from the credit count.
Which alternative fits your workload?
Choose ScreenshotNeo for clean, inspectable capture outcomes
ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try when your goal is a screenshot or PDF, rather than an open-ended browser session. Its response identifies the page verdict and whether the result was billed through X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. The API also includes full-page capture with lazy images loaded, selector-based element capture, device and viewport options, PDF output, custom headers and cookies, and async jobs with signed webhooks. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options.

Choose ApiFlash for a conventional screenshot API and a small starting quota
ApiFlash’s published plans provide a clear entry point if you need URL-to-image capture and the listed quota fits. Its product page describes a Chrome-based API with responsive/mobile and full-page capture, automatic capture timing, ad blocking, cookie-banner hiding, and S3 export. Before putting a production workload on a plan, confirm the current tier limits and test your target pages; the published price alone does not establish that every desired capability is included. See ApiFlash.
Choose Urlbox when tier-specific access and controls matter
Urlbox publishes several plans, but the render count is only one part of the comparison. The pricing page describes differences in third-party-site access, request rates, rendering, and storage; it also says cache treatment and what counts toward quota depend on plan and request method. Compare the actual tier requirements with your target sites and capture options before treating its headline price as equivalent to another provider’s. See Urlbox pricing.

Choose Browserless when screenshots belong inside browser automation
Browserless’s screenshot endpoint accepts either a URL or inline HTML and returns PNG, JPEG, or WebP. It supports full-page capture and element selectors, and its documentation notes that lazy-loaded content may require scrolling before the screenshot. That makes it relevant when you already need hosted browser capabilities beyond still images. The cited screenshot documentation describes API behavior, not current plan pricing.

Compare the billable unit before comparing monthly prices
A price per month is meaningful only when you know what consumes the allowance. One provider may count screenshots, another renders, another successful API calls, credits, or browser-session time. Confirm how the service handles failed loads, retries, cache hits, and overages. BrowserCat, for example, bills successful Utility API requests by credit and websocket usage by rounded-up 30-second intervals; ScreenshotNeo states that failed page outcomes and cache hits are not billed.
Estimate a normal month and a busy month separately. Include retries and the volume of pages likely to fail or trigger access challenges. Then compare the bill at that volume, not just the lowest advertised tier. ApiFlash and Urlbox’s published figures are provider pricing facts, not a guarantee of unchanged checkout terms or a direct like-for-like comparison.

Feature checklist for an apples-to-apples comparison
- Page behavior: Can the service wait for a selector, a delay, or network idle? Does full-page capture handle content that loads only after scrolling?
- Targeting and viewport: Check element selection, mobile/device presets, custom viewport dimensions, and device scale or retina output.
- Access: Determine whether your pages need cookies, authorization, custom headers, a particular user agent, proxy access, or geographic settings. Confirm the provider’s terms allow your use case.
- Output and delivery: Compare PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF support; synchronous responses versus async jobs; storage and signed links; webhook support; and retention.
- Reliability and operations: Check concurrency and request-rate limits, error details, retry behavior, status information, support, and security requirements. The cited sources do not establish a head-to-head performance winner.
- Migration effort: If switching APIs, compare parameter names, authentication, output handling, and whether your existing browser scripts can continue to run. A screenshot endpoint may simplify capture but cannot replace arbitrary browser automation.
Current comparison material also identifies pricing, features, and developer experience as useful selection criteria; see iTechGuides’ screenshot API comparison and ScreenshotAPIs.org’s comparison. These criteria help frame a test; they do not substitute for running the same pages and options against the plans you intend to use.

FAQ
Does BrowserCat provide screenshots?
BrowserCat provides managed browser routing for Playwright, Puppeteer, or CDP clients rather than positioning itself as a screenshot-only API. You can use a browser client to perform screenshot work, but its billing model is based on Utility API calls or websocket time.
Which provider is cheapest?
There is no universal cheapest choice because the providers publish different billable units, feature tiers, and failure or cache rules. Calculate the cost for your successful monthly renders and required options using current plan terms.
Can Browserless capture lazy-loaded page content?
Its screenshot documentation says lazy-loaded content may require scrolling before capture. Whether a particular page behaves as expected depends on its implementation and the capture flow.
