These are YouTube’s recommended live-ingestion settings for 1080p30—not a guarantee that any particular internet connection in India can sustain them continuously. If the stream is unstable, try 720p30 at 6 Mbps and check stream health again.
Recommended bitrate settings
YouTube’s live encoder guidance gives separate minimum and recommended video bitrates for H.264 at 30 fps. For a 24/7 rain stream, use the recommended value as a starting point, then test it on the connection that will carry the broadcast.

These figures are for YouTube live-stream ingestion. They are not the separate bitrate recommendations for uploading prerecorded videos. YouTube also lists H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 as live video codecs, but the table above is specifically for H.264.
Set the other encoder options
- Rate control: CBR, as recommended by YouTube for live encoding.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Audio: 128 Kbps for stereo, YouTube’s recommended setting.
Keep resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate aligned with the selected live-stream settings. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance provides the platform’s current recommendations; its live encoder troubleshooting guidance advises lowering resolution when available upload bandwidth is insufficient.

Why the best setting depends on your connection and footage
Rain footage can look relatively calm, but moving drops, leaves, reflections and camera movement all add detail or motion that the encoder must handle. A 10 Mbps target may suit one loop and connection but prove unstable on another. Use the highest setting that delivers reliably with the actual video and audio you plan to stream.
YouTube’s guidance is general rather than India-specific: it does not publish a separate bitrate table for India or certify uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Your location matters because the connection used for the broadcast must sustain the upload, not because YouTube specifies a different national target.

Test before leaving the stream on
- Configure the encoder for 1080p30, H.264, CBR at 10 Mbps, with a 2-second keyframe interval and 128 Kbps stereo audio.
- Run a representative test using the same rain loop, movement and audio intended for the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and checking stream health in its live encoder settings guidance.
- Watch the stream-health indicators in YouTube Live Control Room while the test runs. A speed-test result alone does not establish that the connection will remain stable during a long broadcast.
- If the stream reports delivery problems or the available upload bandwidth is inadequate, reduce the setting to 720p30 at 6 Mbps and test again. YouTube lists 3 Mbps as the H.264 minimum for 720p30, but the recommended target is 6 Mbps.
- Use the stable result as your operating setting and continue monitoring stream health after going live; the recommendations do not guarantee 24/7 uptime.
Choose latency separately from bitrate
For a rain ambience stream with little or no audience interaction, normal latency is generally a sensible choice. YouTube explains that lower latency can increase playback buffering, and it matters less when the creator is not interacting with viewers in real time. Latency is a separate tradeoff; changing it does not replace choosing a sustainable upload bitrate. See YouTube’s latency guidance.
