YouTube recommends that bitrate for 720p30; it is not a guarantee that any particular Indian connection will hold a stream. If testing and YouTube’s stream-health indicators show reliable headroom, try 1080p30 at 14 Mbps for more detail.
Recommended YouTube bitrate settings
YouTube’s published H.264 live-encoder recommendations give these starting points. They are ingest recommendations by resolution and frame rate—not estimates of Indian household upload speeds or promises of uninterrupted service.
| YouTube stream setting | Recommended H.264 video bitrate | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps | A cautious initial choice when your sustained upload capacity is unknown. Test it on the connection you will use. |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps | Try this for greater image detail if sustained upload tests and stream-health checks support it. |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | A higher-frame-rate option; it is not the first setting to test for a mostly static fireplace image. |
These figures are from YouTube Help’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. For a largely static fire scene, 30 fps is a sensible first frame rate to evaluate before 60 fps. That is practical guidance, not a YouTube rule that fireplace streams must use 30 fps.
How to find what your Indian home connection can sustain
An ISP plan’s advertised download speed does not tell you whether the home’s upload path can carry a continuous live stream. Actual results can vary with the ISP, time of day, Wi-Fi or router conditions, other household traffic, data policy, and power reliability. The available official guidance does not establish a representative India-wide upload speed, evening performance, data allowance, or outage rate, so do not treat a national or plan-wide figure as a guarantee for your home.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset

- Test the actual upload connection. YouTube recommends running a speed test to test upload bitrate. Test from the computer and network you plan to use, preferably under the conditions when the stream will run.
- Set up the stream with representative content. Include the planned audio and visual movement similar to the fireplace video. YouTube advises testing before going live with audio and movement similar to the intended stream.
- Start at 720p30 and 8 Mbps. Watch YouTube’s stream health and any encoder or platform messages while the stream is running. A speed-test result alone does not prove a long-running stream will remain stable.
- Raise quality only when the evidence supports it. If the upload path and stream-health indicators remain reliable, try 1080p30 at 14 Mbps. If the stream drops frames or reports connection trouble, return to the lower setting or address the connection before increasing quality.
YouTube’s guidance is to choose a quality that will produce a reliable stream for your internet connection. It does not prescribe a particular 24-hour preflight test, so a short successful test should not be presented as proof that a connection will remain stable indefinitely.

- Video codec: H.264.
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts delivery through Google’s servers.
- Audio: AAC or MP3. YouTube’s recommendation for stereo audio is 128 Kbps.
These are YouTube live-encoder settings in its published guidance. The recommended video bitrates above should not be confused with an ISP plan’s advertised speed.
Why a low-motion fire does not set the bitrate by itself
A mostly static fireplace image may look acceptable at a lower rate in a particular encode, but that does not make a lower bitrate YouTube’s recommended setting for its resolution and frame rate. If you want to try below the published recommendation, treat it as an experiment: test the actual video, audio, encoder, and connection, then judge the image and stream health. Do not assume that low motion alone makes a specific bitrate reliable.

Keep YouTube Live and Google Cloud Live Stream API figures separate
Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is a different service from YouTube Live ingest. Its guidance lists H.264 input recommendations of 8 Mbps for 720p25/30 and 20 Mbps for 1080p50/60, while its separate transcoded output ladder lists 6 Mbps for 1920×1080p25/30. Those input and output figures describe that API context; they are not substitutes for YouTube’s live-encoder recommendations. See Google Cloud’s Live Stream API best practices (last updated September 24, 2026).
YouTube’s HLS ingestion is also a distinct setup. Its developer documentation describes HLS as segment-based and generally higher latency than RTMP- and WebRTC-based ingestion, with additional format and encoder requirements. It does not present HLS as a way to reduce the upload bitrate a home connection needs. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion documentation (last updated September 14, 2026).
