Start with your Galaxy phone’s Battery usage screen, then adjust the specific apps and features that are draining power. Samsung’s official guidance describes general Galaxy settings—not a separate Exynos battery recipe—so use the controls available on your model and software version. No fixed battery-life gain is established for these changes.
Are there battery settings specifically for Exynos phones?
Samsung’s support guidance covers Galaxy devices broadly. It does not document battery controls reserved for Exynos models or a controlled comparison showing that these settings deliver a particular result on Exynos. The recommendations below are general Galaxy options that may help on an Exynos phone when available. Battery life also depends on coverage, features, apps and how you use the phone. Menu names and settings vary by model, region and software version.
Find what is using battery before changing settings
Open Settings and look for Battery or Battery and device care > Battery. Review the battery graph and detailed app usage; on some models, the relevant page is under Device care. Samsung recommends checking detailed usage and investigating apps that stand out. Follow the labels shown on your phone rather than assuming every Galaxy has the same path. Samsung’s battery-drain guidance and Samsung UK’s Galaxy battery guidance describe these checks.
Choose settings according to the trade-off
| Setting | What it affects | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Sleeping apps | Background activity for selected or unused apps | Notifications or updates may be delayed. |
| Deep sleeping apps | Background operation is stopped for selected apps | Apps work only when opened; avoid this for apps that need timely alerts or background tasks. |
| Display changes | Screen power use | Lower brightness or shorter screen timeout may be less convenient; turning off Always On Display removes that at-a-glance feature. |
| Power saving | Multiple device features and background activity | Depending on the phone, it may affect connectivity, app activity, brightness or processing speed. |
| Light performance mode | Processing speed and power efficiency | Everyday processing may be slower; availability varies by device. |
Put apps you rarely use to sleep
Look in Settings > Battery or Battery and device care > Battery > Background usage limits, if your phone offers that path. Enable the option to put unused apps to sleep, or add selected apps to Sleeping apps. Use this selectively: an app’s background work or notifications may be delayed.

Deep sleeping apps are a stricter choice. Samsung UK says, “Deep sleeping apps will never run in the background and will only work when you open them.” Keep apps out of deep sleep when you rely on them for timely messages, navigation, security monitoring, health features or other background tasks. Samsung explains the distinction in its guidance on Galaxy battery drain.
Reduce screen use without making the phone hard to use
- Lower brightness to a level that remains comfortable to read.
- Set a shorter screen timeout if you do not need the display to stay on while idle.
- Turn off Always On Display if you do not use it. Samsung lists this as an option within Power saving on supported devices.
- Consider Dark mode on a Galaxy with an AMOLED display. The available guidance does not establish a universal amount of battery saved, so treat it as a preference rather than a guaranteed improvement.
Display controls and their locations differ across Galaxy models. Samsung’s battery-drain guidance discusses display options, while its battery-optimisation guidance covers display and other battery settings.

Use Power saving when you need stronger restrictions
Turn on Power saving from the Battery settings on your device, or use the matching control in Quick settings if present. The mode is a bundle of restrictions, and Samsung’s documentation lists options that can include limiting background network use or activity, turning off Always On Display, reducing brightness, limiting CPU speed, turning off 5G, or restricting apps and the Home screen. Not every option appears on every phone.
Choose only the restrictions you can live with. Background apps may update or notify less promptly; turning off 5G changes connectivity; CPU limits can slow processing. Samsung’s Canada Power saving guide notes that device screens and settings can differ by region, and its UK overview of Power saving mode describes options available on supported devices.

Try Light performance mode if your phone offers it
Samsung Canada describes Light performance mode as prioritizing battery efficiency and cooling over processing speed during everyday use. It is a trade-off, not a promise of a specific runtime increase, and may not be available on your model. Samsung’s current Power saving guidance gives the mode’s availability and behavior for devices sold in Canada.
Change connectivity only when you do not need it
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/location and 5G can be switched off when they are not needed, but doing so can interrupt services that depend on them. For example, turning off location can affect location-based features, and changing network connectivity can affect calls, data or connected devices. Make these adjustments for a real need rather than disabling everything by default. Samsung’s Ireland battery-optimisation guide discusses connectivity and background limits.

If battery drain continues
Return to the Battery usage details and check whether one app or a recent change stands out. Use Device care or the diagnostics available on your phone to investigate before applying broad restrictions. If the drain remains unexplained, Samsung’s Galaxy battery-drain guidance is a starting point for troubleshooting. Compare settings by their scope—one app, the screen or the whole device—and by their effect on notifications, connectivity and speed; avoid assuming an Exynos processor alone identifies the cause.
