For the longest unplugged runtime, select Lenovo Vantage’s low-power or extreme-low-power mode, use a 60 Hz refresh rate, moderate brightness and the integrated GPU where practical. Use Adaptive or Intelligent mode for mixed work, and reserve the highest-performance mode for sustained workloads while the charger is connected. Conservation mode is appropriate for a desk-bound machine because it holds the battery around 75%–80%.
Choose the right profile before changing anything else
The Yoga Pro 9i Gen 11 exposes two related controls in Lenovo Vantage: the charging mode and the system operation mode. The operation mode changes the balance among speed, power use, fan behavior and heat. Press Fn+Q to cycle through available modes, or open Lenovo Vantage and select the mode there. Names vary slightly by configuration and software version, so look for the options described below rather than relying on one exact label.

This is a starting map, not a promise that every Gen 11 configuration exposes identical labels. Lenovo says the maximum attainable performance, power consumption and heat-sink-fan speed vary between operation modes, so a faster profile can be audible and warmer even when the workload is unchanged.

1. Select the low-power operation mode
- Open Lenovo Vantage.
- Open the section for device settings, power or thermal/operation modes.
- Choose the option labelled Low Power, Extreme Low Power or equivalent. Lenovo’s guide describes this profile for battery operation and quiet use.
- For a quick change away from the app, press Fn+Q until the desired profile appears.
Use this profile when reducing draw is more valuable than peak responsiveness. It does not make the laptop unusable; it lowers the power and thermal envelope so the fans and processor do not chase maximum speed during light work.

2. Set the display to 60 Hz for routine work
In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, select the Yoga Pro 9i panel and choose 60 Hz when available. Lenovo’s user guide says that 60 Hz is adequate for most situations and is energy efficient. Keep a higher rate for games, fast scrolling that you specifically value or motion-heavy video, then return to 60 Hz for writing, web work and office applications.
3. Match brightness to the room
Brightness is one of the most visible battery loads. Use the Windows brightness slider or the keyboard brightness controls and lower it until text remains comfortable in the current lighting. A bright screen in a dim room wastes energy and can cause eye strain; a screen that is too dim encourages you to work closer to the panel and does not improve practical usability.
4. Keep the discrete GPU asleep unless software needs it
The discrete GPU can draw substantially more power than the integrated graphics engine. Leave it inactive for ordinary browser, document and coding sessions, and let demanding software request it when required. GPU switching depends on the Yoga Pro 9i configuration and driver. If you need to check a particular application, open Settings > System > Display > Graphics, select the app, choose Options and review the available GPU preference. Labels and choices can differ by driver, so verify the result in the application rather than assuming one global switch applies to every model.
5. Use short idle timers
Open Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen and sleep and choose timeouts that fit your workflow. Lenovo’s documented defaults are three minutes on battery and five minutes while plugged in for both screen-off and sleep. Those values are intentionally conservative; increasing them keeps an unattended display and memory state active for longer and raises idle drain. If you need a longer timeout for a presentation or a download, set it temporarily and restore the shorter value afterward.
6. Reduce keyboard-backlight use
Press Fn+Space to cycle the keyboard-backlight levels documented by Lenovo. Turn the backlight down or off when the room is bright enough to see the keys. The saving is smaller than the display saving, but it costs nothing to remove a light you do not need.

When Adaptive or Intelligent mode is the better default
Adaptive mode is designed for a mixed day rather than a single benchmark. Lenovo describes it as dynamically switching between higher- and lower-power behavior according to the tasks running. That makes it a practical default for browser tabs, office applications, coding, video calls and occasional heavier work when you do not want to manage profiles manually.
Use Lenovo Vantage or Fn+Q to select the adaptive/intelligent profile. If a demanding application causes an unexpected performance dip, first check whether the charger is connected, which GPU the application is using and whether the software has its own power setting. Adaptive behavior is intentional: it may lower clocks or fan speed during light sections of a task and raise them when sustained work begins.

What the high-performance profile changes
The highest-performance or extreme-power profile permits a larger thermal and electrical budget. It is the appropriate choice for long renders, code compilation, heavy photo or video work, 3D applications and gaming when the charger is attached. Lenovo’s product material positions Lenovo X Power as thermal optimization for sustained speed.
What to expect
- Higher power consumption than adaptive or low-power operation.
- More fan noise and a warmer chassis during sustained CPU or GPU activity.
- Performance that is less likely to be constrained by a conservative battery or acoustic limit while plugged in.
- Little benefit for a document, email or web session that is already responsive.
Do not use the maximum profile on battery merely to make an application open faster. The extra draw can shorten the session without improving the part of the workload you are actually doing. Switch back with Fn+Q or Lenovo Vantage when the sustained task ends.
Charging modes: battery health versus immediate readiness
Conservation mode for a desk-bound Yoga Pro 9i
In Lenovo Vantage, select Conservation mode when the computer spends most of its time connected to power. Lenovo states: “In conservation mode, the battery will not be fully charged. Instead, the battery’s charge will be kept within 75%–80%.” Holding the pack below a full charge reduces the time it remains at the highest state of charge, which is intended to support long-term battery health.

It is safe to leave Conservation mode enabled when the laptop is normally plugged in. The trade-off is immediate capacity: unplugging with an indicated 75%–80% charge gives less travel time than unplugging at 100%.
Normal or Rapid charge before leaving the desk
Before a day away from outlets, change the charging setting to Normal or Rapid charge so the battery can reach 100%. Rapid charging is a readiness option, not a reason to keep the system at full charge permanently. After the trip, return to Conservation mode if the laptop is again desk-bound.
Overnight battery charging
If your configuration provides Overnight battery charging, use it when you follow a regular nightly schedule. Lenovo describes this feature as learning the routine and delaying the final part of the charge until the expected morning. It is useful when you need a full battery at a predictable departure time but do not want the pack sitting at 100% throughout the night.
Temperature, recharge thresholds and an inaccurate meter
Keep charging temperatures in range
Lenovo recommends a charging temperature range of 10°C–35°C (50°F–95°F). Lenovo Vantage can show battery temperature. If the laptop is hot after gaming or rendering, stop the workload and let it cool before expecting normal charging behavior. Avoid blocking the vents with bedding or soft furniture, because restricted airflow can raise temperatures and trigger thermal limits.
Why charging may pause below 100%
The user guide says a fully charged pack must fall to 94% or lower before it will recharge. A brief pause after reaching full is therefore expected rather than evidence of a failed adapter or battery.

Correct an apparently inaccurate percentage
If the Yoga Pro 9i has remained plugged in for a long period and the percentage seems inconsistent, follow Lenovo’s recovery procedure:
- Disconnect the charger and use the computer until the battery falls below 20%.
- Reconnect the charger and charge to 100%.
- Resume the charging mode that matches your routine, such as Conservation for desk use.
This procedure recalibrates the reported state of charge; it is not a recommendation to perform deep discharges regularly.
Refresh rate, brightness and GPU choices in practice

These controls interact. A high-refresh panel, high brightness and discrete-GPU workload can dominate the battery profile even when Lenovo Vantage is set to low power. Conversely, a 60 Hz panel, moderate brightness and integrated graphics make the operation mode’s savings more noticeable.
How to compare modes instead of guessing
Evaluate a mode using four questions:
- How much battery does the task draw? Compare the same application and screen brightness, not a light document session with a game.
- Is performance sustained or bursty? A short launch burst rarely justifies the maximum profile; a long render may.
- Are fan noise and temperature acceptable? High performance intentionally permits more of both.
- Is the charger connected? Battery operation prioritizes remaining runtime, while plugged-in operation can prioritize predictable sustained speed.
For charging, compare Conservation with Normal/Rapid on a different axis: Conservation favors long-term desk use, while Normal or Rapid favors having the maximum available capacity before travel. For the display, 60 Hz versus a higher rate is an efficiency-versus-motion-smoothness decision rather than a quality defect.

What battery life can—and cannot—be predicted
Lenovo’s PSREF specifies a 92.5 Wh battery for the Yoga Pro 9i Gen 11 16-inch family. That figure describes capacity, not a guaranteed number of hours. Lenovo explicitly says actual runtime depends on configuration, software, wireless functionality, power-management settings and screen brightness. CPU and GPU choice, panel refresh rate, application load and firmware can therefore produce materially different results within the same product family.

Do not use the 92.5 Wh figure as a promise that every configuration will last a particular workday. A low-power office session and a discrete-GPU render are different tests, even if both begin at 100%.
A recent TechRadar review of a Gen 11 Aura Edition sample reported that it remained usable during benchmarking, video editing and other heavy workloads. The reviewer heard fans under load and did not observe obvious performance slowdown. That is one sample under that review’s test conditions, not a guarantee for every CPU, GPU, display or firmware configuration.
Recommended profiles for common days
Commuting or working from cafés
- Charge to 100% with Normal or Rapid charge before leaving if you need the available capacity.
- Select Low Power or Extreme Low Power.
- Use 60 Hz, comfortable brightness and short sleep timers.
- Keep the discrete GPU asleep unless a specific application requires it.
Office and coding day with occasional heavy tasks
- Use Adaptive, Intelligent or balanced mode.
- Keep 60 Hz for editors, terminals and browsers.
- Let demanding applications request the appropriate GPU.
- Switch to high performance only for the sustained task, preferably while plugged in.
Desk-bound creator or gamer
- Leave Conservation mode enabled between sessions.
- Connect the charger before selecting the highest-performance profile.
- Use the panel’s higher refresh rate when a game or video benefits from it.
- Expect more fan noise and heat and keep vents unobstructed.
Troubleshooting the most common surprises
The battery stops at about 80%
Check Lenovo Vantage first. Conservation mode is designed to hold the charge around 75%–80%, so stopping near that range is normal. Select Normal or Rapid charge when you need 100%.

The laptop is loud on battery
Confirm that the operation mode is not set to the highest-performance profile, check whether a browser tab or creative application is using the discrete GPU, and review brightness and refresh rate. Adaptive or low-power mode should be the starting point for quiet battery work.
Performance is lower than expected while unplugged
Check the operation mode, refresh rate and per-application GPU preference. Lenovo intentionally varies the performance and fan limits by mode; battery operation can therefore be slower than plugged-in high-performance operation. If the task is sustained and speed matters, connect the charger before changing to the maximum profile.
Charging does not resume immediately after 100%
Lenovo’s documented threshold requires the pack to fall to 94% or lower before recharging. Leave the adapter connected unless you need to travel; the pause is expected behavior.
The battery percentage looks wrong after months on a charger
Use the documented recovery sequence: discharge below 20%, then charge to 100%. Afterward, choose Conservation mode for a desk-bound routine. Do not repeatedly perform deep discharges as a daily habit.
