Its learning and prediction descriptions come from Microsoft, not independent accuracy tests. Gboard offers useful writing tools, but Google currently documents personalized suggestions based on writing history and screen context only for Pixel 11 series devices. HeliBoard and FUTO are better fits for offline use and customization than for proven writing-style prediction.
Which Android keyboard should you try first?
Choose based on what you want suggestions to do—not just how the keyboard looks. Themes and key layouts change appearance; learning, next-word prediction, and autocorrect settings change typing behavior.
| Keyboard | What the cited sources establish | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft SwiftKey | Microsoft says it learns how you type, predicts next words, and lets you turn autocorrect on or off. Its Google Play listing also describes adjustable size and layout and more than 100 themes. | People seeking adaptive suggestions with autocorrect and appearance controls. |
| Gboard | Google documents proofreading, rephrasing, style changes, and custom prompts. Personalized suggestions using typing history and screen context are documented only for Pixel 11 series devices. | Eligible Pixel users who want writing assistance or personalized suggestions. |
| HeliBoard | Android Authority describes it as offline and open source, with autocorrect, gesture typing, clipboard history, incognito mode, and extensive layout customization. The article reports distribution through GitHub or F-Droid rather than Google Play. | People prioritizing offline use, open source, and interface control. |
| FUTO Keyboard | Android Authority describes offline use, open source, autocorrect, gestures, customization, and local voice typing. Larger local voice models can use more storage. | People who want offline-oriented features, especially local voice typing. |
| Samsung Keyboard | Android Authority notes Galaxy and One UI integration and Galaxy AI writing tools. The cited comparison does not establish its suggestion-learning behavior in detail. | Galaxy owners who value built-in integration and writing tools. |
Feature descriptions are not a head-to-head prediction test. The cited sources do not establish which keyboard will make the fewest mistakes for a particular person, language, or app.
Why SwiftKey is the strongest starting point for adaptive suggestions
Microsoft says SwiftKey “learns as you type and remembers how you write,” and describes it as predicting next words. That is a product claim, not an independently measured comparison. See Microsoft’s SwiftKey typing guide.

- LIVE FAST. CHARGE FASTER: Focus more on the moment and less on your battery percentage with Galaxy A17 5G. Super Fast Charging powers up your battery so you can get back to life sooner.²
- MEMORIES MADE PICTURE PERFECT: Capture every angle in stunning clarity, from wide family photos to close-ups of friends, with the triple-lens camera on Galaxy A17 5G.

Microsoft’s guide also reports that 33% of suggestions are right the first time and that users will not need to press more than two letters 84% of the time. The page gives no test method, sample, or date for those figures, so treat them as Microsoft-reported product statistics rather than a promise about your results.
SwiftKey also separates prediction behavior from visual customization: its Google Play listing describes changing keyboard size and layout and choosing from over 100 themes. Those options can make the keyboard more comfortable, but do not by themselves indicate that suggestions will be more accurate. See the Microsoft SwiftKey Google Play listing.

Adjust autocorrect
Microsoft says users can choose whether autocorrect is on. If you prefer to review words yourself, disabling it is different from disabling suggestions: autocorrect changes typed text automatically, while prediction offers words as you type. Microsoft’s SwiftKey setup guide explains the autocorrect control.
When Gboard makes more sense
Gboard’s documented writing tools include proofreading, rephrasing, style changes, and custom prompts. These are useful for revising text, but they are not the same feature as a keyboard learning your usual next words.

Google’s current help page says personalized suggestions based on typing history and screen context are available only on Pixel 11 series devices. Eligibility and supported apps can change, so check Google’s Gboard writing tools help page for current device and app requirements before relying on that feature.
Offline-focused alternatives: HeliBoard and FUTO
HeliBoard
Android Authority describes HeliBoard as an offline, open-source keyboard with autocorrect, gesture typing, clipboard history, incognito mode, and substantial layout customization. The cited article reports it is distributed through GitHub or F-Droid, not Google Play. Because distribution and releases can change, consult the current project listing before installing; the cited evidence does not establish a SwiftKey-like learned prediction system.

FUTO Keyboard
Android Authority describes FUTO as an offline, open-source option with autocorrect, gestures, customization, and local voice typing. Larger local voice models can require more storage. The cited comparison does not show that FUTO matches SwiftKey’s learned writing-style predictions.
These descriptions come from Android Authority’s Android keyboard comparison; they are not a detailed comparative privacy audit. Do not infer broader data-handling guarantees from the word “offline” alone.

Should Galaxy owners switch from Samsung Keyboard?
Not necessarily. Samsung Keyboard’s Galaxy and One UI integration, along with Galaxy AI writing tools, may matter more than changing keyboards. The available comparison does not establish that those AI tools learn next-word preferences in the same way Microsoft describes SwiftKey, so compare the actual behavior you want: adaptive word suggestions, text rewriting, autocorrect control, or system integration.
How to choose based on your typing needs
- Want suggestions that adapt to your typing? Try SwiftKey first, while treating its learning description and performance figures as Microsoft claims rather than independent results.
- Want rewrites or proofreading? Consider Gboard’s writing tools, and check whether your device and apps meet Google’s stated eligibility.
- Prefer offline operation and extensive control? Compare HeliBoard and FUTO, understanding that the cited sources do not establish equivalent learned predictions.
- Value Galaxy integration most? Staying with Samsung Keyboard may be the more practical choice.
- Care about autocorrect specifically? Check whether the candidate lets you adjust or disable it; that control is distinct from turning off predictive suggestions.
After installing a different keyboard, Android requires you to enable and select it as the active on-screen keyboard. Exact menu labels vary by Android version and device maker; use your phone’s keyboard or language settings rather than assuming Samsung’s One UI menus match another Android device.
