Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For an Android phone, choose a tracker that works with Google Find Hub; for a Samsung Galaxy phone, the Galaxy SmartTag2 is a separate option built around SmartThings Find. Either can help you locate keys or a bag—and may show where a missing suitcase was last detected—but neither is a self-contained GPS tracker that continuously reports its position.
For luggage, the key question is not just Bluetooth range: it is whether compatible phones pass near the tag and report its location. That network coverage, plus the bag’s material and how the tag is attached, determines how useful a tracker will be when it is out of your hands.
Which Android tracker should you choose?
Start with the finding network your phone can use. Google’s official Find Hub device directory lists compatible trackers from brands including Chipolo, Motorola, and Pebblebee. Its current listed examples include Chipolo POP and LOOP, Moto Tag 2, and Pebblebee Clip 5. Check the exact model and regional availability before buying; Google notes that features and availability vary by region and device.
If you use a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone and want Samsung’s finding ecosystem, consider Galaxy SmartTag2. Samsung’s stated setup requires a compatible Galaxy device, a Samsung account, and SmartThings Find. Its out-of-range reports rely on opted-in Galaxy users near the tag. A Samsung tag is not simply another Find Hub-listed model: match the tracker to the network you intend to use.

| Use case | Good direction | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Android phone, keys or bag | A model on Google’s Find Hub list, such as Chipolo POP or LOOP | Confirm the exact model and regional compatibility. Remote updates depend on nearby compatible phones. |
| Samsung Galaxy phone | Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 | Requires a compatible Galaxy phone, Samsung account, and SmartThings Find setup. UWB compass guidance requires a compatible UWB-enabled Galaxy handset. |
| Wallet or passport holder | A compatible slim tracker card, such as Chipolo CARD if the Android-compatible variant is confirmed | Check the network edition and card thickness; Chipolo lists CARD at 2.5 mm. |
| Suitcase or travel bag | A suitable Find Hub-compatible tag with a secure attachment or protected placement inside the bag | Allow for sparse network updates and possible signal interference from metal or RFID-blocking materials. |
There is no evidence here for a single objectively best tracker across brands: the available product specifications are not a controlled head-to-head test. The practical choice is conditional—phone ecosystem first, then form factor, attachment, battery preference, and whether you need UWB-guided nearby finding.
How a tracker finds a missing bag
Nearby search
When your phone is close enough to connect over Bluetooth, the tracker can help you search nearby. This is different from seeing a bag’s location after it has traveled away from you.

Finding-network updates
At a distance, the tag can report a location when a compatible participating phone detects it and passes that location through its finding network. How often that happens depends on nearby network participation and foot traffic, so updates may be sparse. A location on the map can be the last detected position, not a live view of a moving suitcase.
Chipolo says Android users see the map location in Find Hub and need internet or cellular access on the phone to display it. One tracker can be active on one finding network at a time. A tracker is therefore useful as an additional way to find an item, not a substitute for a GPS locator or a guarantee of continuous tracking.

Compare the relevant designs and specifications
| Tracker | Network and fit | Published specifications |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 | SmartThings Find and Galaxy Find Network; a Galaxy ecosystem choice. Samsung offers cases separately. | Samsung lists Bluetooth range up to 120 m without obstacles, IP67, a replaceable CR2032 battery, and up to 500 days of typical battery life in non-power-saving mode. These are Samsung specifications, not independent comparative measurements. |
| Chipolo POP | Listed by Google as a Find Hub-compatible example; suitable for keys or bags if its form and attachment suit the item. | Chipolo lists nominal Bluetooth range up to 90 m. |
| Chipolo LOOP | Listed by Google as a Find Hub-compatible example; a loop-style option for keys or a bag zipper. | Chipolo lists nominal Bluetooth range up to 120 m. |
| Chipolo CARD | A thin-card option for a wallet or passport holder; verify the current Android-compatible variant. | Chipolo lists nominal Bluetooth range up to 120 m and a thickness of 2.5 mm. |
Chipolo’s ranges are manufacturer-stated figures, not independent test results. Samsung’s up-to-120 m figure applies without obstacles, and obstructions can reduce finding accuracy. Its up-to-500-day battery figure is typical use in non-power-saving mode; actual battery life varies. Samsung states that the SmartTag2’s IP67 rating is based on lab conditions of fresh water up to 1 m for 30 minutes; that does not establish waterproof performance in every situation.
Choose a form factor and attachment that fit the item
- Keys and bag zippers: A tag with a built-in loop is convenient. Check whether the model needs a separate case or holder before relying on it as an attachment.
- Wallets and passport holders: A thin card is designed for a flat pocket, but verify both its thickness and Android finding-network compatibility.
- Suitcases: A tag can be attached securely or placed inside the case. For checked luggage, an internal placement avoids relying on a dangling exterior attachment; for either checked or carry-on luggage, location updates still depend on nearby compatible phones.
What can interfere with luggage tracking?
Chipolo says fabric and plastic cases should not block the signal, while aluminum, heavy foil, and RFID-blocking sleeves can severely degrade or block Bluetooth. A reported location may consequently be stale or unavailable even when the tag is in a busy place. For a metal suitcase or a bag with shielding, test the chosen placement before travel rather than assuming the tag will report reliably from inside.

Even if your item is lost, your information remains protected and cannot be accessed without your permission — not by Apple, Google, the manufacturer, or any third party
Privacy and sensible expectations
Bluetooth trackers are designed to help find belongings, not to track people, and network reporting is neither continuous nor guaranteed. Samsung says SmartThings Find offers unknown-tag alerts within its ecosystem; that is a Samsung-specific feature and should not be assumed for every finding network. For valuable luggage, treat a tag’s location as one potentially helpful clue, not as proof of its current whereabouts.
