Best overall alternative: TCL’s 65-inch-class NXTFRAME A300W is the value-focused choice, while Hisense CanvasTV is another direct substitute for a matte, framed presentation. Samsung The Frame remains the benchmark for a polished art-TV experience, and an LG Gallery or gallery-style OLED makes more sense when picture quality and OLED contrast matter more than a dedicated art ecosystem.
The right choice depends less on a single specification than on how convincingly a television disappears into your room. Matte or anti-glare treatment, control over personal artwork, wall mounting, bezel design, access to an art library and normal-TV performance all affect whether the set looks like a painting or simply a television showing an image.
Quick verdict: which Toshiba alternative should you buy?
| Television | Best for | Evidence-based details | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|---|
| TCL NXTFRAME A300W, 65-inch class | Lower-cost framed-art presentation | TCL lists the A300W family as 4K QLED models from 55 to 85 inches, including a 65-inch class. Independent coverage discusses a 65-inch NXTFRAME as a lower-cost alternative to Samsung’s lineup. | Exact regional suffix, included frame, wall mount and current price. |
| Hisense CanvasTV | Another direct art-TV substitute | Comparison coverage places CanvasTV among the principal lower-cost alternatives, with a matte, framed presentation. | Current screen sizes, artwork access, software features and regional availability. |
| Samsung The Frame, 65-inch | Most complete art-TV workflow | Samsung documents Art Mode, 4K resolution, customizable bezels, motion and brightness sensors, a 65-inch model and an included Slim-Fit wall mount. Its service includes free Art Store Streams and a paid Art Store subscription, with terms that can vary by market. | Local subscription terms, bezel cost and the price difference versus the alternatives. |
| LG Gallery or gallery-style OLED | OLED contrast and premium picture quality | Comparison coverage treats LG as a gallery-style alternative rather than a direct Frame clone. | Current model’s gallery software, personal-image upload behavior, mount and frame options. |
If the priority is simply to replace a Toshiba 65-inch art TV with the closest lower-cost concept, start with the TCL NXTFRAME and Hisense CanvasTV. If you want the most established combination of art controls, sensors, bezels and mounting, choose Samsung The Frame. If the set will spend most of its time showing films, games and broadcasts, consider LG OLED styling instead of paying mainly for an art-mode ecosystem.
What separates an art TV from an ordinary television?
An art TV is not defined only by a picture displayed on the screen. The convincing effect comes from several parts working together: the screen surface controls reflections, the software keeps artwork visible when you are not watching television, and the physical design makes the panel resemble a framed object on the wall.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Matte or anti-glare behavior
A glossy television can show a beautiful artwork file but still look like a black rectangle because windows, lamps and room reflections are obvious on its surface. Matte or anti-glare treatment scatters those reflections and gives artwork a more paper- or canvas-like appearance. The trade-off is that a heavily diffused surface can alter perceived sharpness or reduce the impact of bright highlights during ordinary TV viewing. Compare both the art presentation and movie performance in the lighting conditions where the set will live.
Art-mode controls
Useful controls include a dedicated mode that appears when the television is idle, slideshow timing, brightness adjustment and the ability to choose how an image is cropped. Samsung’s documented Art Mode is the clearest example in this group. Other models may use different names or require a particular app, so confirm the current software for your country rather than assuming that every “art TV” offers identical controls.
Personal artwork and photo upload
Curated libraries are convenient, but many owners eventually want to display family photographs, their own paintings or licensed digital art. Samsung says The Frame can show personal photos as well as curated artwork. For TCL, Hisense and LG, verify the current upload method, supported file types, storage limits and whether a phone app, USB drive or account is required. Those details can change between model years and regions.
Mounting and frame design
The panel should sit close enough to the wall that the illusion survives from normal viewing distance. A supplied mount can reduce the accessory budget and simplify installation. Samsung lists an included Slim-Fit wall mount with The Frame and offers customizable bezels. TCL and Hisense bundles can differ by country and retailer, so inspect the exact package contents. Also check cable routing, power-outlet position and whether the chosen frame is compatible with the specific model suffix.
Performance when it is being used as a TV
Art mode may be the reason you are shopping, but the television can spend several hours a day showing broadcasts, streaming video or games. Compare contrast, HDR behavior, refresh-rate support, viewing angles and gaming features for the exact model. A display that looks excellent as wall art but disappoints in normal use may not be good value, even if its frame is attractive.
TCL NXTFRAME A300W: the value-focused choice
TCL’s A300W NXTFRAME family is the most direct value recommendation in this comparison. TCL’s catalog identifies it as a 4K QLED range spanning 55 to 85 inches, and the 65-inch class is specifically discussed in independent coverage as a Samsung Frame alternative. That gives shoppers a familiar size for replacing a 65-inch Toshiba while leaving room to choose larger or smaller versions in the same family.

Why it makes sense
- It is designed around the framed-art concept rather than requiring you to disguise a conventional television.
- The range includes a 65-inch class, with additional 55-, 75- and 85-inch classes listed by TCL.
- Independent coverage positions the 65-inch NXTFRAME as a lower-cost route to the art-TV format.
- Its QLED and 4K designation indicate that it is intended to remain a full-resolution everyday television, not only a digital picture frame.
What to verify
“A300W” identifies a family, not one universal retail package. Before paying, match the complete model suffix to the listing for your country. Confirm whether the decorative frame and wall mount are included, which bezel color is supplied, how personal images are transferred, and what artwork service is available locally. Retailers can bundle accessories differently, and a low headline price may exclude the frame or a suitable mount.

Best buyer profile
Choose the NXTFRAME when the room needs a framed 65-inch display and you want to keep the purchase below the usual Samsung tier. It is especially suitable for buyers who already know they will supply their own artwork or who do not require the most mature proprietary art-store experience. If you expect to rely heavily on a large curated library, investigate the available catalog and subscription terms before deciding.
Hisense CanvasTV: another direct substitute
Hisense CanvasTV belongs in the same shortlist because comparison coverage identifies it as a principal lower-cost alternative to Samsung’s Frame lineup. Its proposition is straightforward: a matte, framed presentation that can hang in a living space without looking like a conventional glossy television.
Where CanvasTV fits
CanvasTV is a good candidate when the visual effect of a framed panel matters more than owning a particular brand ecosystem. The matte presentation is intended to reduce the mirror-like reflections that make ordinary screens look conspicuous in bright rooms. As with any matte display, judge the result in your own lighting and also watch ordinary video before buying.
Details that require regional confirmation
The cited comparisons do not establish one universal size range, artwork catalog or subscription policy for every market. Check the current local model page or retailer listing for screen sizes, the art library, personal-image support, slideshow controls and software version. Confirm whether the frame and mount are part of the box. Do not assume that a CanvasTV sold in one country has the same artwork service or accessories as a similarly named model elsewhere.
When to choose it over TCL
Pick CanvasTV if its available finish, software or retailer bundle better suits your room. Compare the complete installed cost rather than the panel price alone: a television that needs a separate frame, flush mount or cable solution can lose its apparent advantage. If the TCL listing provides clearer information about personal-art uploads or included hardware, that transparency may be more valuable than a small difference in screen specifications.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

Samsung The Frame: the benchmark, not automatically the bargain
Samsung describes The Frame as “a unique TV that doubles as a piece of artwork when not in use.” Its current product information lists a 65-inch size, 4K resolution, Art Mode, customizable bezels, motion and brightness sensors and an included Slim-Fit wall mount. Those elements make it the reference point against which the alternatives are judged.
Why it remains the reference
- Dedicated Art Mode: the television is designed to switch from normal viewing to artwork rather than relying on a generic screensaver.
- Environmental response: motion and brightness sensors can help the display behave more naturally when people enter the room or lighting changes.
- Physical customization: interchangeable bezel choices let the owner coordinate the screen with the room’s decor.
- Installation baseline: Samsung lists a Slim-Fit wall mount in the package, reducing the number of separate mounting decisions.
- Artwork access: Samsung documents free Art Store Streams and a paid Art Store subscription. Subscription terms can change by market.
Who should pay for it
The Frame is the safer choice when the television’s art function is central to the purchase and you want documented controls rather than a feature checklist assembled from third-party apps. It is also a sensible option when a coordinated bezel and close-to-wall installation are more important than obtaining the lowest price.
Where it may be excessive
If the set will almost always show streaming video, sport or games, you may spend more on art-specific hardware and services than you will use. Compare the total cost of the television, optional bezel, any paid artwork plan and installation with a gallery-style OLED that prioritizes picture quality instead.

LG Gallery and gallery-style OLED models
LG belongs in the comparison for a different reason. Coverage describes LG Gallery or gallery-style OLED sets as design and picture-quality alternatives, not direct Frame clones. Their appeal is a thin, wall-oriented appearance and OLED contrast rather than a single standardized art-TV workflow.
Why OLED can be the better fit
OLED’s ability to produce very dark blacks and strong contrast can make films and photographs look dramatic. If your household treats the television primarily as a high-quality screen and only occasionally displays artwork, those picture characteristics may matter more than a built-in art store. A gallery-style installation can still keep the panel visually integrated with the room.
Why it is not a one-for-one Frame replacement
Gallery styling does not guarantee the same idle behavior, sensors, bezel system or artwork subscription. LG’s gallery software and image-upload behavior vary by model and year, so inspect the exact television rather than relying on the “Gallery” label. Confirm whether your own images can be loaded, how they are presented when the set is idle and whether the intended mount is supplied.

How to choose in five steps
- Measure the wall and viewing distance. Confirm that a 65-inch panel fits between furniture, artwork and power outlets. Leave room for the frame and cable path, not just the screen dimensions.
- Decide whether artwork or television viewing comes first. If the display is usually idle, prioritize matte behavior, sensors, art controls and mounting. If it is usually playing video, weight contrast, HDR, motion and gaming features more heavily.
- Set a complete installed budget. Include the frame, mount, delivery, installation, cable management and any recurring art subscription. Compare packages, not bare panel prices.
- Confirm your artwork workflow. Determine whether you will use a built-in library, personal photos, your own digital paintings or a mixture. Verify upload method, image cropping, slideshow controls and account requirements for the exact regional model.
- Inspect the television in bright and dark conditions. Reflections, viewing angle and perceived contrast can change dramatically with room lighting. Ask the retailer about returns if the finish or software does not meet expectations.
Displaying your own artwork successfully
Personal-image support is useful only when the files are prepared for a television-sized canvas. Keep an original copy of every image, then create a display version that matches the screen’s landscape orientation unless the model explicitly supports portrait artwork. Check how the television crops images; a frame TV may fill the screen by trimming edges rather than adding borders.

Prepare the image
- Use a high-resolution export so brushwork and fine detail survive on a large 4K panel.
- Keep the image’s important subject away from the extreme edges in case the software crops to fill the screen.
- Check the displayed brightness in the room where the television will hang. A file that looks subtle on a laptop can appear overly bright on a wall.
- Retain the artist’s name, license information and original file separately from the display copy.
Choose a transfer route
The exact route depends on the model. Manufacturers may provide a phone app, cloud account or USB import, and those options can vary by country and software revision. Follow the support instructions for the exact model suffix and confirm whether the television stores a local copy or streams the image. If you plan to display client work, verify that the service does not make the image publicly accessible.
Set a slideshow intentionally
Use a small, curated set rather than hundreds of unrelated images. Group work by palette or subject so the display feels like a considered collection. Set a change interval that suits the room: rapid changes make the television feel active, while a longer interval lets each piece function as wall art.
Installation details that affect the illusion
Wall position
Mount the center of the screen at a comfortable eye level for television viewing, then check how the frame aligns with nearby artwork and furniture. A set mounted too high may look like a picture but become uncomfortable for films and games. Verify stud locations, wall strength and the mount’s weight rating before drilling.
Cables and power
Plan the cable route before mounting. A visible power lead can undermine a convincing framed presentation. Use only code-compliant in-wall solutions where required by local rules, and leave enough slack to remove the panel for service. Confirm that the chosen mount permits the bend radius required by the power and signal cables.

Do not aim a spotlight directly at the screen. Even a matte surface can show a bright hotspot, and uneven illumination can make artwork appear washed out. Place ambient lighting to illuminate the wall around the television instead of reflecting directly into it.

Common buying mistakes and fixes
Buying by screen price alone
A discounted panel may exclude the decorative frame or suitable wall mount. Fix this by listing every required component and comparing the installed total.
Assuming every region has the same software
Artwork libraries, subscriptions and upload features can change by market. Fix this by checking the local product page and the television’s current support documentation before ordering.
Ignoring ordinary-TV performance
An art display that looks elegant in a showroom can disappoint during evening viewing. Fix this by evaluating contrast, motion, HDR and viewing angle alongside the idle artwork mode.
Choosing a frame that does not match the model suffix
Accessories are often size- and generation-specific. Fix this by recording the complete model number and confirming compatibility with the frame and mount seller.
Using unlicensed artwork
Displaying an image privately does not necessarily grant permission to reproduce it. Use work you created, purchased or have permission to display, and keep licensing records with your original files.
Which alternative is right for your room?
Choose TCL NXTFRAME if value is the deciding factor
The 65-inch-class A300W is the clearest starting point for a lower-cost replacement that still follows the dedicated art-TV format. Confirm the package contents and regional software before purchase.
Choose Hisense CanvasTV if the matte framed look is your priority
CanvasTV is a direct substitute to investigate when you want a framed presentation at a lower typical price than Samsung. Verify the local size, artwork access and accessories.
