The ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro is the closest premium alternative to the REDMAGIC 12 Pro. It combines a Snapdragon 8 Elite platform with dedicated AirTrigger controls, Wi-Fi 7 support and a more balanced everyday-phone experience. Choose the REDMAGIC 10S Pro if value matters most, or the REDMAGIC 11 Pro if you want a newer REDMAGIC-style design with a large battery and liquid cooling.
The REDMAGIC 12 Pro is a demanding reference point: REDMAGIC’s 2026 launch material claims a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, an R5 gaming chipset, dual-loop liquid cooling, an 8,400 mAh battery and an AMOLED panel running at up to 185 Hz. Those are manufacturer claims, so the sensible comparison is not just peak specifications. Sustained performance, controls, charging behavior, software, cameras, durability and regional pricing matter just as much.
What the REDMAGIC 12 Pro sets as the baseline
The REDMAGIC 12 Pro is built around uninterrupted gaming rather than conventional flagship-phone priorities. Its headline specifications are an 8,400 mAh battery, an AMOLED display rated up to 185 Hz, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform and an R5 gaming chipset, according to REDMAGIC’s current launch page. REDMAGIC also describes its cooling as “the first mass-produced dual-loop system, combining an upgraded turbo fan, vapor chamber, and Liquid Metal 4.0.”
That combination establishes three expectations for an alternative:
#1 Best Overall
- PRIVACY DISPLAY: Automatically hide your screen from those beside you. The built-in privacy display can be preset¹ to turn on when receiving notifications, typing passwords, or using specific apps
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping
- NIGHTS, CAPTURED CLEARLY: From gigs to city lights, record and capture moments after dark with clarity using Nightography so your photos and videos stay crisp and clear on your Samsung Galaxy
- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
- Sustained speed: the phone must keep its performance stable during long sessions, not merely produce a high short benchmark.
- Gaming-specific hardware: shoulder controls, an unobstructed screen, useful ports and software controls can matter more than camera features.
- Endurance: a large battery and a charging system that does not make the phone uncomfortably hot while playing are central to the experience.
Because the 12 Pro’s claims come from a launch page rather than an independent long-term test, treat its figures as the advertised ceiling. The alternatives below are judged by the hardware and review information available for each model, with prices and availability checked for the buyer’s country before ordering.
Quick comparison
| Phone | Processor and gaming hardware | Display | Battery | Memory and storage | Known price reference | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| REDMAGIC 12 Pro | Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 (REDMAGIC claim), R5 gaming chipset, dual-loop liquid cooling | AMOLED, up to 185 Hz (REDMAGIC claim) | 8,400 mAh (REDMAGIC claim) | Not stated in the supplied specifications | Not stated; varies by market | Maximum battery and gaming-first hardware |
| ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro | Snapdragon 8 Elite; AirTrigger controls; Qualcomm Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU and FastConnect 7900 | Resolution and maximum refresh rate vary by configuration; verify the regional specification | 5,800 mAh typical | Tier depends on market | $1,199 listed in TechRadar’s 2025 comparison | Best premium all-round gaming phone |
| REDMAGIC 10S Pro | Snapdragon 8 Elite Leading Version; gaming-focused cooling and software | 6.85-inch AMOLED, 144 Hz | 7,050 mAh | 12/16/24 GB LPDDR5X; 256 GB/512 GB/1 TB | $699 US starting price in June 2025 | Best value for high frame rates |
| REDMAGIC 11 Pro | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5; liquid cooling | 6.85-inch AMOLED, 144 Hz | 7,500 mAh | Up to 24 GB RAM | Not stated; current regional price required | Large-battery REDMAGIC experience without moving to the 12 Pro |
The table mixes manufacturer specifications and review reporting. The 10S Pro price is a US launch price recorded by TechRadar in June 2025, while the ROG figure is a $1,199 listing in TechRadar’s 2025 comparison; neither should be treated as a current worldwide street price.
ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro: the closest premium substitute
For most buyers who want one phone for serious gaming and ordinary daily use, the ROG Phone 9 Pro is the strongest alternative. ASUS lists a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, AirTrigger sensor controls and a 5,800 mAh typical battery. Qualcomm’s device information adds the Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU, FastConnect 7900 and Wi-Fi 7 support through the platform.

- Physical-style controls without a controller: AirTrigger sensors provide shoulder inputs that are useful for shooters, racing games and emulators. Map them to aiming, firing, braking or other actions instead of covering the screen with virtual buttons.
- Modern wireless connectivity: Wi-Fi 7 support and FastConnect 7900 are valuable when a compatible router and local network are available. Wi-Fi 7 does not make a congested or slow internet connection faster by itself, but it gives the phone a current high-end connectivity platform.
- Balanced software target: ROG’s gaming features are integrated into a phone intended for regular communication, photography and media use. That balance is the main reason to choose it over a more aggressively gaming-only design.
- High-end performance: Snapdragon 8 Elite places it in the same current flagship performance class as the platforms used by dedicated gaming phones, although sustained results depend on cooling, ambient temperature, game settings and firmware.
Where it gives up ground to the REDMAGIC approach
Its 5,800 mAh typical battery is substantially smaller than the 7,050 mAh unit in the REDMAGIC 10S Pro, the 7,500 mAh unit reported for the REDMAGIC 11 Pro and the 8,400 mAh figure REDMAGIC advertises for the 12 Pro. That does not automatically mean poor endurance; screen brightness, refresh rate, cellular signal and game load often matter more than capacity alone. It does mean that the ROG Phone 9 Pro is not the obvious choice for the longest possible sessions between charges.
Its listed $1,199 price in TechRadar’s 2025 comparison also places it in a different value category from the 10S Pro’s $699 US launch price. The premium pays for controls, connectivity and a more complete daily-phone package, not simply more battery capacity.
REDMAGIC 10S Pro: the value pick
The REDMAGIC 10S Pro is the clearest answer to “What is the best value gaming phone?” TechRadar recorded a $699 starting price in the United States in June 2025 and described its gaming performance as top level for the money. It uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Leading Version, a 6.85-inch 144 Hz AMOLED display and a 7,050 mAh battery.
Hardware choices
Memory and storage options are unusually broad: 12, 16 or 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, paired with 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of storage. Select the capacity based on the games and recordings you actually keep locally. The 24 GB model is not automatically faster in a game than the 12 GB model; it mainly gives more headroom for multitasking and large game assets.

The 144 Hz panel is already beyond the refresh rate many games can sustain. A game must render at a matching frame rate to show the full benefit, and higher refresh rates increase power use. In practice, a stable 90 or 120 frames per second can feel better than an unstable attempt at a higher setting.
The compromises behind the low price
- Cameras: TechRadar’s review flags weak selfies. Do not buy this model expecting flagship-level front-camera results.
- Software: the review describes the software as cluttered. Expect to spend time disabling unwanted notifications, duplicate utilities and promotional prompts.
- Wireless charging: it has no wireless charging, so charging is wired only.
Those compromises are easier to accept when gaming is the priority. If you need polished imaging, a quieter software experience or convenient wireless charging, the ROG Phone 9 Pro is the safer premium choice even at a much higher listed price.
REDMAGIC 11 Pro: a near-generation alternative
The REDMAGIC 11 Pro is useful for buyers who want the REDMAGIC design language, large battery and liquid cooling without choosing the 12 Pro. TechRadar’s 2026 guide lists a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 6.85-inch display, up to 24 GB of RAM and a 7,500 mAh battery. Tom’s Guide also records a 144 Hz AMOLED panel and the same chipset generation, along with liquid cooling.
Its 7,500 mAh battery sits between the 10S Pro and the advertised 12 Pro capacity. The 144 Hz refresh rate is lower than the 12 Pro’s claimed 185 Hz, but it remains appropriate for high-frame-rate gaming. The more important buying question is the model’s local price and stock: a discounted 11 Pro can be compelling, while a small price gap to the 12 Pro may make the newer phone more sensible.
Important limitations
Both cited guides note weak cameras. Tom’s Guide also notes that the phone has no official dust-resistance rating. That does not prove it will fail in ordinary use, but it means you should not treat it as certified protection against dust or water. Keep it away from rain, sand, sinks and humid environments, especially around the cooling openings and ports.
Cooling and sustained performance: what to compare
Peak chipset names do not tell you how a phone behaves after 20 or 40 minutes of gaming. Heat causes phones to reduce clock speeds, lower brightness or limit charging current. Compare the cooling design and the expected use pattern rather than assuming that the newest processor always wins.
REDMAGIC’s cooling advantage
The 12 Pro’s advertised dual-loop system combines a turbo fan, vapor chamber and Liquid Metal 4.0. The 11 Pro is also described as using liquid cooling, and the REDMAGIC 10S Pro is built as a gaming-first device. These designs are intended to preserve performance during long sessions, but actual temperatures and throttling depend on the game, room temperature, case, brightness and firmware.

ROG Phone 9 Pro’s practical advantage
The ROG Phone 9 Pro’s advantage is integration. Its AirTriggers and gaming software let you keep the phone in a normal daily setup while adding controls when needed. For competitive play, use a case that does not obstruct the triggers, keep vents clear and avoid charging under a pillow or blanket. A clip-on cooler can help any phone, but it adds bulk and may interfere with a case.

How to test a phone you already own
- Install the same game and update it fully.
- Record the initial battery percentage, room temperature and graphics settings.
- Play the same demanding mode for 30 minutes with brightness and refresh rate fixed.
- Note frame-rate stability, surface temperature, brightness changes, touch response and charging behavior.
- Repeat once with a case and once without it if you normally use a case.
This is a repeatable personal comparison, not a laboratory benchmark. It reveals whether a phone stays comfortable and consistent in your environment.
Controls, ports and connectivity
Gaming controls change how much of the display remains visible. AirTriggers on the ROG Phone 9 Pro are the clearest built-in alternative to virtual controls. REDMAGIC phones emphasize gaming software and a screen without a conventional notch or hole-punch interruption, although the exact port and trigger layout should be checked for the regional model.
Port placement matters if you play while charging. A side-mounted USB-C port can keep a cable away from your hands in landscape orientation; a bottom port may be more convenient for desk use. Confirm the location before buying a case or cooler. Accessory compatibility is not universal: controllers, coolers and cases are often model-specific.
For online games, Wi-Fi 7 on the ROG Phone 9 Pro is a connectivity advantage only when your router and network support it. Cellular bands, eSIM support and 5G availability vary by country, so verify the exact regional SKU rather than importing a phone solely for its advertised wireless standard.
Display and battery decisions
Refresh rate versus endurance
The 12 Pro’s advertised 185 Hz mode is the highest figure in this group. The 10S Pro and 11 Pro are listed at 144 Hz, while the ROG Phone 9 Pro’s exact display details vary by configuration and should be checked on the local ASUS specification page. A higher refresh rate improves scrolling and can reduce perceived input latency, but it draws more power and only matters when a game can deliver the corresponding frame rate.
Capacity is not the same as battery life
Battery capacity rankings are straightforward: 8,400 mAh advertised for the 12 Pro, 7,500 mAh for the 11 Pro, 7,050 mAh for the 10S Pro and 5,800 mAh typical for the ROG Phone 9 Pro. Actual runtime also depends on cellular reception, display brightness, game engine efficiency, background applications and temperature.

When playing for long periods, wired charging can add heat. Use the phone’s charge-separation or bypass-charging feature if the regional software provides one, and verify that the option is active before starting a session. Do not assume every model or every game supports the same behavior.
Everyday-phone quality: cameras, software and durability
The ROG Phone 9 Pro is the best fit when gaming shares equal billing with calls, photos, navigation and work apps. The 10S Pro and 11 Pro make clearer trade-offs: reviews flag weak selfies or cameras, and the 10S Pro’s software is described as cluttered. Those are not minor issues if the phone will be your only device.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Durability claims deserve equal caution. The REDMAGIC 11 Pro has no official dust-resistance rating according to Tom’s Guide. A missing rating is not a failure test; it simply means there is no stated certification to rely on. Check warranty exclusions before using any gaming phone near water, dust or extreme heat.
How to choose by budget and use case
Choose the ROG Phone 9 Pro when
- You want the closest premium substitute to the 12 Pro.
- Built-in shoulder controls and current Wi-Fi connectivity matter.
- You need a more balanced phone for cameras, communication and daily software.
- You can justify a price around the $1,199 figure listed by TechRadar in 2025, subject to current regional pricing.
Choose the REDMAGIC 10S Pro when
- Your priority is the most gaming performance and battery capacity per dollar.
- A $699 US launch price, recorded in June 2025, is available locally or through an authorized seller.
- You accept weak selfies, less polished software and no wireless charging.
- You want a 144 Hz display and up to 24 GB of RAM with up to 1 TB of storage.
Choose the REDMAGIC 11 Pro when
- You want a 7,500 mAh battery and liquid cooling in a newer-generation REDMAGIC design.
- You find it materially cheaper than the 12 Pro.
- You can live with weak cameras and the absence of an official dust-resistance rating.
Choose the REDMAGIC 12 Pro when
- You specifically want the largest advertised battery and highest advertised refresh rate in this comparison.
- You value the dual-loop cooling design and gaming-first hardware above camera and software polish.
- The phone is officially sold in your region with a usable warranty and compatible network bands.
Buying checklist before you order
- Confirm the exact regional model: check 5G bands, Wi-Fi features, storage tier, charger and software language.
- Check the delivered price: include tax, shipping, import fees and any required charger. Launch prices are not permanent prices.
- Verify warranty support: confirm who handles repairs in your country and whether liquid damage, dust or fan issues are excluded.
- Match accessories: check the case, cooler, controller and screen protector for the precise model number.
- Plan storage: large games, high-resolution recordings and offline media can fill 256 GB quickly.
- Inspect return terms: gaming comfort, trigger placement, fan noise and software behavior are personal; a clear return window matters.
Final recommendation
Buy the ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro if you want the closest premium alternative to the REDMAGIC 12 Pro and need a phone that remains convincing outside games. Its Snapdragon 8 Elite platform, AirTrigger controls, Wi-Fi 7 support and 5,800 mAh typical battery form the most balanced package.
Buy the REDMAGIC 10S Pro for value. Its $699 US launch price, 7,050 mAh battery, 144 Hz AMOLED panel and broad memory/storage range make it the strongest budget-conscious choice, provided you accept weaker cameras, cluttered software and no wireless charging. The REDMAGIC 11 Pro is the middle path when its local price is attractive and you want a 7,500 mAh battery with liquid cooling. Prices, stock and warranty coverage change by market, so verify them immediately before purchase.
