Choose the Google Pixel 10a if you want the safest combination of dependable photo processing, a restrained Android interface and long support. Choose the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro if a 3.5x optical telephoto camera and minimalist design matter more than update longevity. Choose the Samsung Galaxy A57 if you value battery life, One UI and continuity with Samsung devices. The POCO X8 Pro remains attractive for performance, but its camera results and software experience are less convincing than its specifications suggest.

At a glance: which POCO X8 Pro alternative fits you?

Phone Best for Camera approach Software and support Main compromise
Google Pixel 10a Point-and-shoot photos, night scenes and long ownership Computational photography with a 48MP f/1.7 main camera, 13MP ultrawide and 10.8MP f/3.1 telephoto with 5x optical zoom Clean, simple Android; up to seven years of OS updates reported by Android Central Less performance-oriented than the POCO for demanding gaming
Nothing Phone (4a) Pro Clean interface plus useful optical zoom 50MP main, 8MP ultrawide and 50MP telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom Nothing OS stays close to a Pixel-like experience; three major Android upgrades Shorter major-version support than the Pixel
Samsung Galaxy A57 Samsung ecosystem, battery endurance and premium feel Prioritize the main and ultrawide cameras; the macro camera adds little practical value One UI, Samsung services and ecosystem continuity Not as close to stock Android; camera specification is less compelling on paper
POCO X8 Pro Performance-first buyers who accept heavier software 50MP Sony IMX882 main, f/1.5 aperture, OIS and 8MP ultrawide; 4K video and pro/HDR modes Four major OS upgrades and six years of security patches reported by GSMArena Review evidence describes camera quality as revealing its budget positioning and software as bloat-heavy

Prices, warranty terms and stock vary by country, so treat local availability as a final buying check rather than assuming one model is universally cheaper.

What the POCO X8 Pro baseline tells you

On a specification sheet, the POCO X8 Pro looks camera-ready. Xiaomi lists a 50MP Sony IMX882 main sensor, a bright f/1.5 aperture, optical image stabilisation (OIS) and an 8MP ultrawide. Its camera app includes 4K recording, portrait, pro, HDR and motion-capture modes. Those features cover the controls many buyers expect from a mid-range phone.

The buying question is what happens after the shutter is pressed. Stuff’s review states that “Camera quality gives away this phone’s budget nature” and calls the software “a bit heavy-handed in places, and heavy on bloat.” In practical terms, that means a large sensor specification does not guarantee consistent exposure, skin tones, detail or night results, and a capable processor does not make a cluttered interface feel clean.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

GSMArena records four major Android upgrades and six years of security patches for the POCO. That is respectable, but it is still a shorter major-version commitment than the Pixel 10a’s reported seven years. If you keep a phone for four or five years, the difference affects how many new Android versions you receive, not just how long security fixes arrive.

Google Pixel 10a: the safest camera-and-software replacement

Why its photos are the easiest to trust

The Pixel 10a is the strongest default recommendation for people who want reliable results without tuning a camera app. Android Central characterizes its software and camera behavior as “simple and reliable,” while the reported hardware combines a 48MP f/1.7 main camera, 13MP ultrawide and 10.8MP f/3.1 telephoto with 5x optical zoom. Google’s computational photography is the important part of that package: exposure, HDR, portrait separation and night processing are handled automatically, so the phone is aimed at point-and-shoot consistency rather than manual experimentation.

For daylight scenes, the main camera should be the everyday workhorse. Indoors and after sunset, the Pixel’s value is its processing discipline: it can merge exposures, control highlights and preserve faces without requiring you to switch into a pro mode. The telephoto lens also gives you a true 5x optical perspective for distant subjects instead of relying entirely on a digitally cropped main-camera image.

What you give up versus the POCO

The Pixel 10a uses Google’s Tensor G5 and 12GB of RAM, but it is not positioned as the performance-first choice in this group. If your priority is sustained high-frame-rate gaming, heavy emulation or maximum benchmark performance, the POCO may remain more appealing. That trade-off is easier to accept when camera reliability and a calm interface matter more than peak gaming output.

Software longevity

Android Central reports up to seven years of OS updates for the Pixel 10a. That is the clearest advantage for long-term ownership in this comparison. A long update policy also makes the phone easier to keep as a backup, hand down to another user or resell while it still receives current Android versions.

Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: clean Android with a real zoom lens

The camera setup

WIRED lists a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide and a 50MP telephoto offering 3.5x optical zoom. The telephoto is the defining hardware difference from many mid-range phones: at portraits, signs, pets or stage subjects, 3.5x optical framing can preserve more detail than a crop from the main sensor. It is also a useful middle ground for people who find a 5x lens too tight for everyday shots.

The 8MP ultrawide is best reserved for architecture, landscapes and group scenes in good light. As with any lower-resolution ultrawide, expect its results to depend more heavily on light and stabilization than the main camera. The 50MP figure on the telephoto should not be treated as a guarantee of better images than the Pixel; lens quality, focusing and processing still determine the final result.

Nothing OS and the support trade-off

Android Central describes Nothing OS as close to a Pixel-like clean Android experience. You get a restrained visual style and fewer preinstalled distractions than the POCO, while the phone’s distinctive design gives it a separate identity from conventional Android hardware.

The cost is support duration. Android Central reports three major Android upgrades for the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, compared with up to seven years for the Pixel 10a. If you replace phones frequently, that may be acceptable. If you intend to keep the device through several Android generations, the shorter policy should be treated as a decisive limitation rather than a footnote.

Samsung Galaxy A57: the ecosystem and battery choice

When Samsung makes more sense

Tom’s Guide reports strong battery life, a premium-feeling design and benefits from Samsung’s broader ecosystem. The Galaxy A57 is the sensible alternative for someone already using Samsung services, accessories or another Galaxy device and who values continuity over a near-stock Android interface.

One UI is more feature-rich and visually customized than the Pixel’s software. That can be useful if you rely on Samsung-specific tools, multitasking features or device-to-device integration. It is not the right pick if your definition of clean software means minimal overlays and almost no extra apps.

How to judge its cameras

The macro camera should not drive your decision. Tom’s Guide says it adds little practical value, so compare the Galaxy A57 primarily on its main and ultrawide cameras. Those are the lenses you will use for people, documents, travel and everyday scenes; a nominally larger lens count does not automatically improve the photos you care about.

Choose the A57 when battery endurance, build quality and Samsung integration outweigh the desire for Pixel-style processing. If low-light consistency is your single most important camera requirement, the Pixel remains the safer recommendation because its computational approach is the most explicitly focused on automatic reliability in the available reviews.

Camera comparison by the situations that matter

Situation POCO X8 Pro Pixel 10a Nothing Phone (4a) Pro Galaxy A57
Daylight main camera 50MP IMX882, f/1.5 and OIS look strong on paper; review evidence warns that output can expose its budget positioning Designed for consistent automatic exposure and detail 50MP main camera with a clean-camera-phone focus; evaluate processing in reviews and local demos Use the main camera as the primary comparison point; macro specifications are not a substitute
Indoor and low light Bright aperture and OIS help capture, but processing quality is the uncertainty Best fit for dependable computational night processing Restrained software and capable hardware, but less evidence of long-term processing consistency than Pixel Judge with actual indoor samples; ecosystem and battery are stronger reasons to buy
Zoom No optical-telephoto specification in the supplied baseline 10.8MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom 50MP telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom Do not infer zoom quality from macro or lens count
Ultrawide 8MP 13MP 8MP Compare real main/ultrawide samples rather than counting lenses
Video and controls 4K modes plus portrait, pro, HDR and motion capture listed by Xiaomi Automatic processing is the priority Optical zoom adds framing flexibility for video and stills Review the main and ultrawide behavior for your use; macro adds little

No independent laboratory test covering all three alternatives under one standardized camera protocol was identified. Treat qualitative reviews as directional, and when possible inspect full-resolution samples shot in daylight, indoor light and at night rather than relying on megapixel counts.

Software, updates and everyday usability

Factor POCO X8 Pro Pixel 10a Nothing Phone (4a) Pro Galaxy A57

Best fit Users willing to remove or ignore extra software for performance People keeping a phone for many years Users who want clean software and distinctive design People invested in Samsung’s ecosystem

“Clean software” has two dimensions: what is installed on day one and how long the interface remains current. Nothing is closest to the Pixel in day-to-day restraint, while the Pixel has the stronger documented major-version runway. The POCO offers the shortest path to a performance-oriented experience only if you are comfortable managing its heavier software layer.

Performance, battery and charging: deciding what camera quality cannot answer

Camera quality is only one part of a replacement decision. The POCO is the performance-led option in this group, so gaming-first buyers may reasonably accept its software compromises. The Pixel 10a’s Tensor G5 and 12GB RAM support everyday multitasking and computational photography, but the available evidence does not position it as the fastest gaming phone. The Nothing model is aimed at balance and design, while the Galaxy A57’s strongest reported advantages are battery life and a premium-feeling build.

For heavy users, ask three practical questions before ordering:

  • Will you play demanding 3D games for long sessions, or mostly photograph, message and stream?
  • Is all-day battery endurance more valuable than the cleanest interface?
  • Do you already own watches, tablets, earbuds or services that work best inside one manufacturer’s ecosystem?

There is no universally best answer. A camera-focused buyer who rarely games gains more from Pixel processing and updates than from the POCO’s performance headroom; a mobile gamer may rationally make the opposite trade.

Decision guide: pick by priority

Choose the Pixel 10a when reliability comes first

  • You want the highest-confidence point-and-shoot experience in this comparison.
  • You regularly photograph children, pets, indoor scenes or night subjects without manual controls.
  • You plan to keep the phone for many years and value the reported seven-year OS-support window.
  • You prefer a simple Android interface and can accept less gaming-focused hardware.

Choose the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro when optical zoom and design matter

  • You specifically want a genuine 3.5x optical telephoto lens.
  • You prefer a minimalist interface but want hardware that looks unlike a conventional Android phone.
  • You replace phones often enough that three major Android upgrades are sufficient.
  • You are comfortable giving up the Pixel’s longer documented support period.

Choose the Galaxy A57 when ecosystem and endurance matter

  • You already use Samsung services or accessories.
  • Strong battery life and a premium-feeling design rank above near-stock Android.
  • You are willing to judge camera quality by the main and ultrawide lenses rather than macro-lens count.

Keep the POCO X8 Pro when performance outweighs polish

  • Gaming and sustained performance are more important than the cleanest software.
  • You value 4K recording, pro controls, HDR and motion-capture features.
  • You can tolerate heavier preinstalled software and accept that camera processing is the less certain part of the package.

Buying checklist before you order

  1. Check the exact regional model. Confirm storage, RAM, supported cellular bands, NFC and whether the advertised camera configuration is sold in your country.
  2. Verify current software terms. Update promises can differ by market or model variant. Save the manufacturer’s support statement for the exact device you are buying.
  3. Compare warranty and service. A lower local price is less attractive if repairs, replacement parts or authorized service are difficult to obtain.
  4. Inspect camera samples in three conditions. Look at daylight detail, indoor skin tones and night highlights. Check the ultrawide and telephoto at their native optical settings rather than judging only the main camera.
  5. Test the interface in a store when possible. Count preinstalled apps, check notification behavior and see whether the default launcher and settings layout feel comfortable.
  6. Match charging accessories. Confirm what charger is included in your market and whether your existing charger supports the phone’s fastest advertised charging mode.
  7. Price the whole ownership period. Include a case, screen protector, charger if needed, warranty extension and the likely replacement date—not just the handset’s launch price.

Bottom line

The Pixel 10a is the safest all-round replacement for the POCO X8 Pro when camera consistency and clean software are the goal. The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is the specialist choice for a clean interface with useful 3.5x optical zoom, provided its three-major-upgrade policy suits your ownership plan. The Galaxy A57 is the ecosystem-and-battery alternative. Keep the POCO only if its performance advantages and camera controls matter more to you than processing consistency and a less cluttered Android experience.
