For most home parties, the Sony ULT TOWER 5 is the closest value alternative to the Marshall Bromley 150. It costs less in many markets, has deep-bass tuning, lighting, RCA and XLR connectivity, USB ports, and a dedicated microphone input. You give up roughly half the Bromley 150’s rated battery runtime and its IP55 protection is replaced by IPX4 protection only when the speaker is standing vertically.
Choose the JBL PartyBox 130 when karaoke controls and easy guitar or microphone connections matter most. Choose Soundboks 4 when outdoor loudness is the priority and you are prepared to verify current specifications. Keep the Bromley 150 itself on your shortlist if 40-plus hours of rated playtime, a replaceable battery, wheels, and 360-degree sound justify its higher tier.
What the Marshall Bromley 150 offers
Marshall launched the Bromley 150 on 29 September 2026 as a portable party speaker aimed at indoor gatherings, garden parties, karaoke and small performances. Its strongest differentiators are practical rather than cosmetic: a manufacturer-rated 40-plus-hour playtime, IP55 dirt and splash resistance, a replaceable LiFePO4 battery, wheels, a built-in handle and a 360-degree presentation.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Specification | Marshall Bromley 150 | What it means at home |
|---|---|---|
| Rated playtime | 40+ hours | Suitable for a weekend event or several parties without daily charging; actual runtime varies with volume, lighting and source. |
| Battery | Replaceable LiFePO4 | A worn battery can be replaced instead of retiring the speaker, subject to availability of the correct pack. |
| Protection | IP55 | Protected against dust and water jets; it is not a license to leave the speaker in heavy rain or immerse it. |
| Wireless | Bluetooth 5.3 with Auracast | Current Bluetooth connectivity plus broadcast-style Auracast capability where compatible devices are available. |
| Sound coverage | True Stereophonic 360-degree sound | More consistent coverage around the cabinet than a front-facing design when guests stand on different sides. |
| Amplification | 90 W woofer amplifier plus two 55 W full-range amplifiers | Manufacturer power figures; they do not by themselves predict perceived loudness in a room. |
| Frequency range | 42 Hz–20 kHz | Published response range, with no independent measurement supplied. |
| Maximum SPL | 97 dB at 1 m | Manufacturer maximum at a stated distance; music content, placement and distortion affect the result. |
| Weight | 6.3 kg | Light enough for one person to move, with wheels and a handle for longer trips. |
| Inputs | Two microphone or instrument inputs | Enough for a singer and an instrument or two performers; confirm connector types before buying cables. |
Best alternatives by priority
| If your priority is… | Best fit | Why | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Value, bass and wired connectivity | Sony ULT TOWER 5 | Approximately 20 hours of battery life, lighting, RCA and XLR inputs, USB-A and USB-C ports, and a 6.3 mm microphone input. | About half the Bromley 150’s rated runtime; IPX4 protection applies when vertical. |
| Simple karaoke and party controls | JBL PartyBox 130 | Dynamic lightshow, foldable ergonomic handle, rechargeable battery and inputs for guitar, microphones and TV. | Current regional listings must be checked for exact runtime, water rating and included accessories. |
| Outdoor volume first | Soundboks 4 | A plausible choice for readers who value very high outdoor volume and long-running battery use. | The available source does not provide enough standardized specifications for a precise Bromley 150 comparison. |
| Long unattended operation and weather tolerance | Marshall Bromley 150 | 40-plus-hour rated playtime, replaceable battery and IP55 protection. | Those advantages may matter less for a short indoor party where mains power is nearby. |
Sony ULT TOWER 5: the strongest all-round value alternative
The Sony ULT TOWER 5 is the most direct alternative when you want a substantial bass-oriented party speaker but do not need the Bromley 150’s endurance. Sony lists approximately 20 hours of battery life, Bluetooth 5.3, lighting and 360-degree party sound. Its connection panel is unusually useful for home events: RCA, XLR, USB-A, USB-C and a 6.3 mm microphone input cover consumer sources, a mixer, a wired microphone and some instruments.
The XLR and RCA sockets are especially valuable if your party setup includes a mixer, DJ controller or powered microphone system. A 6.3 mm microphone input can accept a conventional wired microphone, but you should confirm whether your chosen microphone is dynamic and whether any required adapter or cable is included. USB ports are useful for charging or compatible playback functions, but do not assume every USB port accepts audio input; check the current manual for the exact role of each socket.
| Sony ULT TOWER 5 specification | Published value | Practical interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Battery life | Approximately 20 hours | A rated estimate, not a guarantee at maximum volume and full lighting. |
| Protection | IPX4 when vertical | Handles splashes, but orientation matters and dust protection is not claimed. |
| Weight | Approximately 28 lb (12.7 kg) | Nearly twice the Bromley 150’s listed mass; plan for the wheels or a two-person move on stairs. |
| Dimensions | 358 × 534 × 280 mm | Check doorways, shelving and vehicle space before purchase. |
| Inputs and ports | RCA, XLR, USB-A, USB-C and 6.3 mm microphone input | Broad wired connectivity for karaoke, DJ and small-performance setups. |
| Wireless and expansion | Bluetooth 5.3; stereo pair and party chain | Potential to link compatible speakers; verify model compatibility before planning a multi-speaker system. |
| Lighting | Included | Built-in visual effects without a separate light bar. |
When Sony is better value
Sony is the sensible choice for a one-evening house party, a karaoke room or a living-room DJ setup where charging overnight is acceptable. The wired inputs can also reduce dependence on Bluetooth when several people need to perform. The trade-off is substantial if you host long events away from an outlet: approximately 20 hours is roughly half the Bromley 150’s rating, and the Sony’s IPX4 vertical protection is less forgiving around dust, spills and outdoor placement.

The JBL PartyBox 130 is aimed at people who want familiar party-speaker controls rather than a complex audio system. JBL lists a dynamic lightshow, a foldable ergonomic handle and a rechargeable battery. Its published inputs cover guitar, microphones and TV, making it easy to connect a singer, an instrument or a television without buying a separate mixer for a basic setup.

That input mix is the reason to choose it over a more audio-focused alternative. A family member can plug in a microphone, another person can use a guitar input, and the TV can provide backing tracks. For a home party, the foldable handle is useful when the speaker moves between rooms or from a storage cupboard to the patio.
Do not transfer specifications from another model in the same product family. JBL’s PartyBox 310 page references up to 18 hours of music playback and a built-in karaoke mode, but that battery figure belongs to the 310 and must not be used as the PartyBox 130’s runtime. Check the current regional PartyBox 130 listing for its own battery estimate, water-resistance rating and included accessories before buying.
Best use case
Pick the PartyBox 130 when the party involves karaoke, announcements or casual guitar playing and you want the shortest path from the box to the first song. It is less suitable for a buyer who needs a precisely documented weather rating or a replaceable-battery design, because those details are not established in the available listing.
Soundboks 4: consider it for outdoor loudness
Soundboks 4 is a manufacturer-listed Bluetooth party speaker and a plausible option for readers whose first concern is very high outdoor volume and long-running battery use. That priority changes the buying decision: an open garden or large yard needs more acoustic headroom than a living room, and portability may mean carrying the speaker farther rather than simply rolling it across a floor.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

The available product information does not provide enough standardized specifications to make a precise table-by-table comparison with the Bromley 150. Before purchase, verify the current retail listing for battery runtime, weight, protection rating, input types, charging time and what is included. Treat broad claims about outdoor loudness as a reason to investigate, not as an independent measurement.

Do you need a battery speaker with wheels?
Buy a battery model with wheels when the speaker will move between rooms, travel to a garden, or operate where extension cords create a trip hazard. Wheels are most useful on level floors and paths; they do not remove the need to lift the speaker over steps, thresholds or uneven ground. A built-in handle still matters because the last part of the journey is often a stairway or a car boot.
For a short indoor party beside a mains outlet, a long battery rating may be unnecessary. You can prioritize input layout, microphone control, placement and sound coverage instead. Battery runtime also falls when the amplifier is driven hard and lighting is bright, so a published maximum should be treated as headroom rather than guaranteed all-night operation at party volume.
How to choose by room and event size
Living room or apartment
Prioritize controllable bass, easy volume adjustment and coverage that does not force guests to stand directly in front of the cabinet. The Bromley 150’s 360-degree design and Sony’s 360-degree party-sound description suit a central placement. Keep the speaker away from a shared wall if low frequencies are likely to disturb neighbors.

Large house, garden or patio
Protection and transport become more important. The Bromley 150’s IP55 rating is the clearest documented advantage among these options, but place any speaker under cover and bring it inside after the event. For a yard where loudness is the overriding concern, investigate Soundboks 4 and confirm its current specifications before committing.
Karaoke or announcements
Count performers and connections before buying. The Bromley 150 has two microphone-or-instrument inputs, Sony provides a 6.3 mm microphone input plus XLR and RCA, and JBL lists microphone, guitar and TV inputs. If you expect two microphones, a guitar and backing music at the same time, plan for a small mixer or a speaker with enough independent inputs; do not assume a single Bluetooth connection replaces a mixer.
Setting up karaoke at home
- Inventory the sources. List the microphone type, guitar or instrument, television or phone and any mixer. Check whether each device outputs XLR, 6.3 mm, RCA, USB or Bluetooth.
- Match connectors before the party. Sony’s listed XLR, RCA and 6.3 mm options cover many wired arrangements. JBL’s listed guitar, microphone and TV inputs are convenient, while Bromley 150 buyers should confirm the connector specification for both inputs.
- Place the speaker before connecting performers. Keep it stable, leave ventilation openings clear and avoid pointing a microphone toward the cabinet. A central position helps 360-degree designs cover guests evenly.
- Connect the backing track first. Start at low volume, play a familiar song and confirm that the source is using the intended input. Disable unnecessary sound enhancements if vocals become muddy.
- Add the microphone and set gain gradually. Speak at normal volume, raise the microphone level slowly and stop if you hear feedback. Move the microphone behind or to the side of the speaker rather than directly in front of it.
- Test the loudest expected moment. Have the singer perform while the backing track is active. If the vocal disappears, reduce bass enhancement or increase vocal level instead of simply turning the master volume to maximum.
- Secure cables and spare power. Tape or route cables away from walking paths, keep adapters labeled and charge the speaker before guests arrive even when the rated runtime appears sufficient.
Battery, placement and weather precautions
- Use the manufacturer’s charger and charging procedure. Do not substitute an unknown power supply because connector fit does not prove electrical compatibility.
- Charge before storage and follow the manual’s guidance for storing a lithium battery. A replaceable battery is a service advantage, not permission to open or modify the pack yourself.
- IP55 and IPX4 describe protection conditions, not waterproof ownership. Keep speakers out of standing water, heavy rain and drink spills, and dry the exterior before charging.
- For the Sony ULT TOWER 5, keep the cabinet vertical when relying on its stated IPX4 protection.
- Do not place a speaker directly beside a pool, sink or open window. A cover protects against dust and light exposure but does not make a speaker safe to immerse.
- Leave clearance around vents and amplifiers. Draping fabric over a cabinet during playback can trap heat and muffle the sound.
Total ownership costs to plan
Published speaker specifications do not include everything a karaoke host may need. Budget for microphones, the correct XLR or 6.3 mm cables, adapters, a small mixer if several sources must play together, and a fitted cover. A cheaper speaker can lose its value if you immediately need a mixer and multiple adapters, while a more expensive model with the right inputs may reduce setup complexity.

Common pitfalls and fixes
Assuming a family model’s battery figure applies to every model
Battery ratings are model-specific. The PartyBox 310’s published up-to-18-hour figure cannot be assigned to the PartyBox 130. Find the exact model number and regional listing before comparing runtimes.
Confusing maximum SPL with guaranteed loudness
The Bromley 150’s 97 dB maximum SPL at 1 m is a manufacturer figure under stated conditions. It is not a universal ranking against Sony, JBL or Soundboks, because measurement methods, music content and distortion limits may differ.
Putting an IP-rated speaker in the rain
Ingress ratings reduce risk; they do not eliminate it. Use a roof or canopy, keep connectors dry and move the speaker indoors when weather worsens.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Buying cables after the guests arrive
Connector names are not interchangeable. Test every microphone, instrument and adapter with the chosen speaker in advance, and keep one known-good cable as a spare.
Expecting wireless pairing to solve every multi-source problem
Bluetooth pairing normally handles a source device, not several independent microphones and instruments. For karaoke with multiple performers, count physical inputs or add a mixer.
Bottom line: which alternative should you buy?
Choose the Sony ULT TOWER 5 for the best balance of bass, lighting and wired connectivity when approximately 20 hours is enough. Choose the JBL PartyBox 130 for the simplest guitar, microphone and TV karaoke setup, after checking the current regional specifications. Choose Soundboks 4 only after verifying its current data if outdoor loudness outweighs precise feature comparison. Choose the Marshall Bromley 150 when 40-plus-hour rated playtime, IP55 protection, a replaceable battery, wheels and 360-degree coverage are worth paying for.
