Best documented alternative: the Logitech MX Master 3S for Mac. Its dedicated Gesture button lets you hold the button and move the mouse left, right, up or down to trigger Mac actions such as Mission Control, App Exposé and switching between desktops. Seven customizable buttons, a thumb wheel and SmartShift scrolling also give it more control capacity than the compact INFTYLAB layout.

Choose the BenQ INFTYLAB M Mouse instead if you value a lighter, smaller Mac-first design and smooth, trackpad-like scrolling. It can trigger shortcuts and gesture actions through BenQ’s Glide software, but it is not a full replacement for every native Multi-Touch gesture. Pinch, rotate and similar trackpad gestures still require an Apple trackpad or another Multi-Touch surface.

Quick answer: which mouse should replace Mac trackpad gestures?

The Logitech MX Master 3S for Mac is the stronger choice when “gesture control” means moving between spaces, opening Mission Control, exposing windows or assigning different actions to applications. Logitech documents a specific hold-and-move gesture workflow rather than relying only on ordinary button shortcuts. Its extra controls also suit people who want browser, editing or productivity commands close to the thumb.

The BenQ INFTYLAB M Mouse is the better fit for portability and a compact setup. BenQ gives it Bluetooth, a 2.4G receiver and USB-C wired operation, plus Glide software for remapping buttons and assigning Mac actions. Its scrolling is designed to feel closer to a MacBook trackpad. That convenience should not be confused with full hardware Multi-Touch: the M Mouse can launch commands, but it does not reproduce every two-, three- or four-finger gesture.

What “gesture controls” means on a Mac mouse

There are two different capabilities often described with the same phrase:

  • Command gestures: a button press, button hold or directional mouse movement that sends a Mac command. Mission Control, App Exposé and desktop switching fall into this category.
  • Native Multi-Touch gestures: movements detected across several fingers on a trackpad, such as pinch-to-zoom, rotation and other system gestures.

A programmable mouse can cover the first category very well. It cannot automatically become a glass Multi-Touch surface. Macworld’s review describes the INFTYLAB M Mouse as offering trackpad-style scrolling and programmable shortcuts without full Multi-Touch gesture support. If your workflow depends on pinch, rotate or other native finger combinations, plan to keep an Apple trackpad alongside the mouse.

These are different design priorities rather than two versions of the same mouse. The M Mouse emphasizes low weight, compact dimensions and flexible connection modes. The MX Master 3S emphasizes a larger ergonomic shell and a control system built around the Gesture button, wheels and application profiles.

What the BenQ INFTYLAB M Mouse actually does

Trackpad-inspired scrolling

BenQ says the M Mouse “makes mouse scrolling feel smoother and more natural, similar to a MacBook trackpad.” Glide is the software layer that provides this trackpad-like behavior and lets you configure shortcuts. The result is useful when you mainly miss the feel of scrolling on a MacBook rather than the complete set of finger gestures.

Built-in connections for a mixed setup

You can use the M Mouse over Bluetooth, through its 2.4G USB receiver or as a wired USB-C mouse. BenQ specifies support for up to three Bluetooth devices, so one mouse can be paired with several computers or tablets without requiring the receiver for every switch. Wired mode is also practical for initial setup, charging or a desk where radio connections are inconvenient.

Default function-button assignments

Out of the box, the function buttons are assigned to Mission Control, screenshot and horizontal scrolling. Those defaults cover common Mac tasks immediately, while Glide allows different shortcuts or Mac gesture actions to be assigned later. The M Mouse therefore works best for users who want a few deliberate commands rather than a large bank of controls.

Size, weight and tracking

BenQ’s launch material lists an 85 g weight and tracking up to 6,000 DPI. The light body is easier to carry with a laptop and generally suits small-to-medium hands. A lighter mouse can also feel quicker to reposition, although users who prefer a substantial palm rest may find the larger MX Master 3S more comfortable for long sessions.

What the Logitech MX Master 3S adds for Mac gestures

A dedicated hold-and-move gesture

Logitech’s documented workflow is explicit: “Hold down the Gesture button while moving the mouse left, right, up, or down.” On a Mac, the available mappings include Mission Control, App Exposé and switching between desktops. This makes the MX Master 3S the clearest replacement when your main goal is navigating spaces and windows without reaching for a trackpad or keyboard.

More physical controls

The MX Master 3S has seven customizable buttons, a thumb wheel and a SmartShift main wheel. The extra wheel is useful for horizontal timelines, wide spreadsheets and side-to-side documents, while SmartShift can change between precise ratcheted scrolling and fast free-spinning movement. Those controls are independent of the Gesture button, so navigation, scrolling and application commands can be separated instead of stacked onto one small set of buttons.

Application-specific behavior

Logi Options+ is required to enable gestures and configure them. It can assign different actions by application, including browser-tab switching, zoom, timeline navigation and undo/redo. A single physical movement can therefore behave differently in a browser, an editor and a creative application, provided each profile is configured in Options+.

Shape and tracking range

Logitech lists the mouse at 141 g with a 200–8,000 DPI range. Its larger ergonomic right-hand shape is aimed at palm support and sustained desk use, not the smallest travel bag. Bluetooth Low Energy and Logi Bolt provide the documented wireless connection options.

How to configure the INFTYLAB M Mouse for Mac shortcuts

  1. Choose a connection: connect by USB-C for a wired test, pair it in Apple menu > System Settings > Bluetooth, or plug in the 2.4G receiver.
  2. Confirm pointer movement: move the pointer and test a normal click before changing assignments. This separates a connection problem from a software-mapping problem.
  3. Open Glide: use the INFTYLAB Glide desktop or web configuration described by BenQ. Select the M Mouse as the active device.
  4. Review the defaults: check the Mission Control, screenshot and horizontal-scroll assignments. Keep them if they match your workflow; otherwise select the relevant function button and choose a shortcut or Mac gesture action.
  5. Build a small, memorable map: assign only the commands you use repeatedly. For example, keep Mission Control on one button, screenshot on another and horizontal scrolling on the remaining function control.
  6. Test in the applications you use: open several windows, invoke Mission Control, take a screenshot and scroll a wide document. If an action works in one application but not another, check whether Glide is applying an application-specific mapping.

The M Mouse does not need to imitate every trackpad movement to be useful. Treat its buttons as reliable command triggers and its scrolling mode as the trackpad-like part of the experience.

How to configure MX Master 3S gesture navigation

  1. Connect the mouse: pair it through Bluetooth Low Energy or connect the Logi Bolt receiver. On a Mac, Bluetooth pairing is under Apple menu > System Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Install and open Logi Options+: Logitech identifies Options+ as the software needed to enable gestures and configure actions. Select the MX Master 3S when it appears.
  3. Enable the Gesture button: open the mouse’s gesture controls and assign the button used for the hold-and-move workflow. The exact screen wording can change between Options+ releases, but the control is presented as the Gesture function.
  4. Assign the four directions: hold the Gesture button and move left, right, up or down to select the desired Mac action. Start with Mission Control, App Exposé and desktop switching because Logitech documents those mappings directly.
  5. Add application profiles where useful: configure browser tab switching, zoom, timeline navigation or undo/redo for the applications in which those commands save the most time.
  6. Practice the hold, then move: press the Gesture button first, keep it held, and make a clear directional movement. Moving before the button is held can produce an ordinary pointer movement instead of the assigned command.
  7. Verify each direction: test the gesture with multiple windows and desktops open. If a direction performs the wrong action, return to its Options+ assignment rather than changing macOS keyboard shortcuts.

Which mouse fits your priorities?

Choose the MX Master 3S when desktop navigation is the priority

  • You want a documented hold-and-swipe gesture for Mission Control and App Exposé.
  • You regularly switch between macOS desktops and want that command on the mouse.
  • You need several independent controls for scrolling, horizontal movement and application shortcuts.
  • You work mainly at a desk and prefer a larger right-hand ergonomic shape.
  • You are willing to install Logi Options+ and maintain application profiles.

Choose the M Mouse when portability and simplicity matter more

  • You want the lighter 85 g design and a compact form for travel.
  • You prefer a Mac-first mouse with smooth, trackpad-like scrolling.
  • You need Bluetooth, USB-C wired and 2.4G receiver options, including switching among up to three Bluetooth devices.
  • You are satisfied with a few high-value shortcut buttons rather than seven customizable controls.
  • You want to configure commands in Glide without moving to the larger MX Master shape.

Use a mouse plus trackpad when you need native Multi-Touch

If your workflow includes pinch-to-zoom, rotation or other multi-finger gestures, neither mouse should be treated as a complete trackpad replacement on the evidence available here. Pair the mouse with an Apple trackpad, built-in MacBook trackpad or another Multi-Touch device. The mouse can handle pointer precision, scrolling and command shortcuts while the trackpad handles gestures that depend on multiple simultaneous contacts.

Common problems and practical fixes

A gesture moves the pointer instead of running a command

On the MX Master 3S, make sure the Gesture button is held before moving. Then check the direction assignment in Logi Options+. On the M Mouse, open Glide and verify that the selected button still has a shortcut or Mac action assigned.

Mission Control does not open

First test Mission Control from the Mac itself to confirm that the system action works. If the keyboard or trackpad command succeeds, return to the mouse software and reassign the button or gesture. The M Mouse’s default Mission Control button and the MX Master 3S’s Options+ mapping are separate configurations, so changing one does not change the other.

Scrolling feels ordinary rather than trackpad-like

For the M Mouse, confirm that Glide is active; BenQ identifies Glide as the software behind its smooth, trackpad-like scrolling. The MX Master 3S uses SmartShift and its wheel behavior instead, so configure the wheel mode in Options+ if you want a different balance between precise steps and fast movement.

  • Ergonomic mouse designed for comfort, MX Master 4 keeps you in flow with a natural tilt, intuitive buttons, and a thumb scroll wheel that reduces hand stress for fluid navigation

An application profile behaves unexpectedly

Options+ can assign actions by application. Check which profile is active and whether the intended application is receiving focus. In Glide, review any application-specific mapping before replacing the global assignment.

The mouse will not connect to the preferred computer

Use the connection method that matches the situation: Bluetooth for a receiver-free setup, the 2.4G receiver for a computer with a free USB port, or USB-C wired mode for the M Mouse. Removing an unused Bluetooth pairing and pairing again can help when a computer remembers the device but does not reconnect; the same basic reset approach is to unplug and reinsert the receiver or reconnect the cable before changing software settings.

Bottom-line buying decision

For the closest documented mouse-based substitute for Mac gesture navigation, buy the Logitech MX Master 3S for Mac and configure its Gesture button in Logi Options+. It is the only option here with a published hold-and-direction workflow covering Mission Control, App Exposé and desktop switching, and its extra controls support more complex application setups.

Buy the BenQ INFTYLAB M Mouse when the deciding factors are low weight, compact dimensions, multiple connection modes and scrolling that feels closer to a MacBook trackpad. Its Glide mappings can launch important Mac commands, but anyone who relies on true Multi-Touch should budget for a trackpad as well.
