For most phone gamers, the Razer Kishi V2 is the best 8BitDo Pro 3 alternative when you want a compact controller that plugs directly into your phone. Choose Backbone Pro instead for official Xbox, PlayStation and PC remote play; GameSir G8 Galileo for larger grips, Hall-effect controls and rear buttons; or the 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller – Xbox Edition if you want to stay with 8BitDo and add rear paddles. The Pro 3 remains the more flexible wireless gamepad, but it needs the 8BitDo Mobile Gaming Clip or another stand to hold a phone.
Which alternative should you buy?
The right replacement depends on how your phone is used. A controller that attaches directly to a handset is convenient for commuting and cloud gaming, while a wireless pad with a clip is easier to share between a phone, tablet, computer and console. Grip size, case clearance, connector type, remote-play software and extra buttons matter more than a generic “best” ranking.
| Controller | Connection and mounting | Controls and ergonomics | Phone-focused features | Compatibility or price information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Razer Kishi V2 | Direct-connect mobile design; the exact connector and case clearance must match your phone. | Compact layout; control remapping is handled in the Nexus app. | Nexus can remap touch controls, organize games and support Xbox Game Pass streaming. | Razer describes it as a universal mobile gaming controller; current price was not stated. |
| Backbone Pro | Direct mobile controller for compatible USB-C phones; verify your handset and case. | Portable console-style layout; 3.5 mm headset jack. | Official remote-play support for Xbox, PlayStation and PC libraries; Bluetooth audio can use the phone. | Backbone lists compatibility with many USB-C phones; current price was not stated. |
| GameSir G8 Galileo | Type-C mobile connection; its larger body is less pocketable than compact alternatives. | Full-size grips, Hall-effect inputs and two programmable rear buttons. | Designed around comfortable, extended play rather than the smallest possible package. | TechRadar listed $79.99 / £79.99 / AU$129.99 in its 2026 review. The Type-C model is officially listed for Android. |
| 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller – Xbox Edition | Mobile controller; connection details were not stated in the available product information. | Two rear paddle buttons and an Xbox-oriented control layout. | Mobile Ultimate Software support for configuration. | Closest same-brand alternative to Pro 3; current price was not stated. |
| 8BitDo Pro 3 (baseline) | Bluetooth wireless pad used with the 8BitDo Mobile Gaming Clip or a separate stand. | Magnetic ABXY buttons can switch between Switch and Xbox layouts. | One controller can cover phone, computer and console-style use. | 8BitDo lists support for Switch, Windows, SteamOS, Android and Apple. |
The table distinguishes published capabilities from details that were not stated. Prices other than the dated GameSir figure should be checked at the time you buy, and a phone’s connector, operating system and case thickness can change whether a controller actually fits.

Wireless pad with a clip
The Pro 3 communicates over Bluetooth and becomes a handheld phone system when paired with the 8BitDo Mobile Gaming Clip. This arrangement keeps the controller useful with other devices and lets you remove the phone without unplugging a connector. It also adds a separate hinge or clamp, extra weight above the controller and one more item to carry. A stand is an alternative if you normally play at a desk.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Wireless mounting is the safer choice when your phone has a case that you do not want to remove, when you switch between Android and Apple devices, or when you already own several Bluetooth gaming devices. Before buying a clip, check that the clamp opens wide enough for your handset and case and that the phone’s weight does not make the assembly top-heavy.
Direct USB-C controller
Kishi V2, Backbone Pro and the Type-C GameSir G8 Galileo connect directly to a compatible phone. There is no clip to charge or position, and the controller feels like a single handheld unit. The trade-off is physical fit: the phone’s USB-C port must line up with the controller, the case may need to come off, and a thick camera bump or unusual port position can prevent full insertion.
Direct connection is especially practical for games that benefit from an immediate, wired control path, but the important purchase check is not the product name alone. Confirm the exact phone model, its connector, operating-system support and whether the manufacturer lists your case style as compatible. Backbone specifically says its Pro works with many USB-C phones, while GameSir’s Type-C model is officially listed for Android.

What makes it different
Razer positions Kishi V2 as “a universal mobile gaming controller that brings a console-class gameplay experience to your phone.” Its main advantage over the Pro 3 is the integrated phone form factor: the controller is built to hold a compatible handset instead of relying on a separate Mobile Gaming Clip.
The Nexus app is the feature that most clearly separates Kishi V2 from a basic pad. Razer says Nexus can remap touch controls, organize games and support Xbox Game Pass streaming. Remapping is useful when a game exposes touch buttons but does not offer native controller support; you can assign physical inputs to those on-screen controls rather than waiting for the developer to add gamepad support.
Who should choose Kishi V2
- Players who want the smallest attached-phone setup and do not want a separate clip.
- Game Pass users who want the Nexus software to be part of their launcher and streaming workflow.
- Anyone who needs touch-control remapping for mobile games that lack native controller mapping.
Checks before ordering
“Universal” does not mean every handset and case fits every Kishi V2 variant. Match the controller’s connector to your phone, check the manufacturer’s supported-device list, and measure the case rather than assuming it will clear the side grips. If you use multiple phones with different connectors, the Pro 3’s Bluetooth approach may be less restrictive.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Backbone Pro: best for official remote play
Why remote-play users favor it
Backbone says the Backbone Pro can “Play your XBOX, PlayStation®, or PC library with official remote play support.” That emphasis makes it the strongest alternative for a player whose phone is primarily a screen for a console or computer at home. Instead of treating remote play as an afterthought, Backbone presents support for Xbox, PlayStation and PC libraries as a central use case.
The controller also includes a 3.5 mm headset jack. Backbone lists Bluetooth audio through the phone as another option, so you can choose wired headphones or let the handset handle Bluetooth audio. This is useful when your gaming headset is wired, when you need to keep the phone’s wireless audio connection, or when you do not want a separate audio adapter.
Compatibility and fit
Backbone lists compatibility with many USB-C phones, but “many” is not the same as every USB-C handset. Check the exact model, Android version or other operating-system requirement listed for your phone, and confirm that the case can remain installed. A direct-connect controller can be unusable if the plug cannot reach the port through the case.
Who should choose Backbone Pro
- Console owners who regularly use Xbox or PlayStation remote play on a phone.
- PC players who want official remote-play support in a compact handset controller.
- Players who need a 3.5 mm headset jack or prefer Bluetooth audio routed through the phone.
Choose Kishi V2 instead when touch remapping and the Nexus app are more important than official multi-platform remote-play positioning. Choose the Pro 3 when you want one Bluetooth pad that can move between several device types without committing to a USB-C fit.
GameSir G8 Galileo: the comfort and control choice
Full-size ergonomics
The G8 Galileo takes the opposite approach to the smallest direct-connect controllers. TechRadar describes full-size grips, Hall-effect inputs and two programmable rear buttons. Larger grips can make long sessions more comfortable for players who find compact mobile controllers cramped, while rear buttons allow selected actions without moving a thumb from an analogue stick.
Recommended Free Tools
Hall-effect inputs are a hardware distinction rather than a software feature. They use magnetic sensing for the relevant controls, so the attraction here is the control technology itself, not a promise of a particular lifespan, latency or performance figure. No broadly applicable independent latency or battery statistic is established for this comparison, so those numbers should not be inferred from the Hall-effect label.

Price and platform qualification
TechRadar listed the G8 Galileo at $79.99 / £79.99 / AU$129.99 in its 2026 review. Those are the prices reported at the time of that review, not a guaranteed current or recurring price. The Type-C model is officially listed for Android, so iPhone owners should not assume compatibility from the connector shape alone; verify the exact model and edition before purchase.
Who should choose G8 Galileo
- Players who prioritize full-size grips over pocketability.
- Competitive or action-game players who want Hall-effect inputs and two programmable rear buttons.
- Android users willing to remove a case or accept a larger controller body for better hand comfort.
Its size is the central trade-off. A G8 can be a better living-room or hotel-room controller than a tiny handset accessory, but it is less attractive if your priority is slipping the controller into a small bag with the phone still attached.
8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller – Xbox Edition: the same-brand upgrade
Why it is the closest Pro 3 alternative
8BitDo’s Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller – Xbox Edition keeps you in the same software and design ecosystem while adding two rear paddle buttons. 8BitDo also lists mobile Ultimate Software support, allowing configuration from a mobile device, and Xbox-oriented compatibility.
This is the natural choice for someone who already likes the Pro 3’s button feel or layout but wants rear inputs for actions such as crouch, sprint or reload. The Pro 3’s magnetic ABXY buttons can switch between Switch and Xbox layouts; the Ultimate Mobile controller is explicitly Xbox-oriented, so decide whether you want that fixed emphasis or the Pro 3’s layout flexibility.
What remains to be checked
The available product information does not state a current price or all connection details for the Ultimate Mobile model. Confirm whether its connector, phone clamp or case clearance suits your handset before ordering. If you need a guaranteed direct USB-C experience, Kishi V2, Backbone Pro or the Type-C G8 have clearer connection descriptions in the available information.
Where the 8BitDo Pro 3 still makes more sense
An alternative is not automatically an upgrade. The Pro 3 is the better fit when flexibility matters more than an integrated phone shell. 8BitDo lists compatibility with Switch, Windows, SteamOS, Android and Apple, giving it a broader device role than a controller designed around one handset connector. Its magnetic ABXY buttons can switch between Switch and Xbox layouts, which is useful if you move between Nintendo-style and Xbox-style games.

- [360 ° Flexible Rotation Design] Comes with a rotatable lanyard ring that supports 360 ° free rotation, effectively solving the problem of twisted and tangled lanyards
- [Wide compatibility] The ultra-thin 0.02-inch design does not block the charging port at all, and both wired and wireless charging can be used directly without removing the pad. Compatible with most smartphones such as iPhone, compatible with various wristbands, lanyards, crossbody straps, and keychains
- [Durable and Portable Material] Premium rust-resistant stainless steel material with good flexibility, which not only avoids scratching the phone case, but also has excellent anti rust and anti fading performance
- [Multi scenario Practical] Paired with a lanyard or wristband, hands-free use can be achieved. The phone is within reach and not easily dropped, ideal for daily commuting and outdoor activities. Suitable for full coverage phone cases, does not support half coverage phone cases
- [Quality Service] If you find any damage or other issues with the product upon receipt, please contact us immediately. We will handle it quickly
The limitation is the phone setup itself. The Pro 3 needs the 8BitDo Mobile Gaming Clip or a separate stand to position a phone. If you mostly play at a desk, that limitation may be minor. If you want to pull a controller from a pocket and start playing immediately, a direct-connect model is more convenient.

Choose Kishi V2 when software and compactness lead
Select Kishi V2 if touch remapping, Xbox Game Pass streaming through Nexus and an attached-phone form factor are your priorities. It is the most straightforward recommendation for a player who wants a compact mobile controller rather than a multi-device wireless pad.
Choose Backbone Pro when remote play leads
Select Backbone Pro if your phone is mainly a remote-play screen for Xbox, PlayStation or PC. Its official remote-play positioning, 3.5 mm jack and phone-based Bluetooth audio options address the needs of console and PC owners more directly than the other alternatives.
Choose G8 Galileo when hands and controls lead
Select G8 Galileo if full-size grips, Hall-effect inputs and two programmable rear buttons matter more than carrying convenience. Treat the Type-C Android listing and the dated review price as purchase checks, not universal guarantees.
Choose Ultimate Mobile when brand continuity leads
Select the 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller – Xbox Edition if you want 8BitDo’s mobile software and two rear paddles while staying with an Xbox-oriented control scheme. It is the least disruptive move for existing 8BitDo owners, provided the phone fit and connection meet your needs.
Keep Pro 3 when flexibility leads
Keep the Pro 3 if you want one Bluetooth controller for Switch, Windows, SteamOS, Android and Apple, or if you value switchable ABXY layouts. Add the Mobile Gaming Clip when you need an attached-phone setup.

Pre-purchase checklist
- Identify the exact phone. Record the model, operating system and connector. USB-C alone does not prove that a direct-connect controller is supported.
- Account for the case. Measure case thickness around the port and camera area. Be prepared to remove a case if the controller’s plug or rails cannot clear it.
- Choose your carry style. A clip-on Pro 3 is modular and multi-device; Kishi V2, Backbone Pro and G8 Galileo create a single attached unit, with the G8 emphasizing larger grips.
- Decide whether rear buttons matter. G8 Galileo has two programmable rear buttons, and the 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile controller has two rear paddle buttons. The available information does not identify rear buttons for Kishi V2, Backbone Pro or Pro 3.
- Plan your audio. Backbone Pro provides a 3.5 mm headset jack and lists Bluetooth audio through the phone. Do not assume the same audio options on other models without checking their specifications.
- Check the software you actually use. Kishi V2’s Nexus supports touch remapping, game organization and Xbox Game Pass streaming; the 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile controller supports mobile Ultimate Software.
- Verify the price date. The only specific figure here is the G8 Galileo price reported by TechRadar in its 2026 review. Other current prices were not stated.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Buying by connector alone
A USB-C port describes the shape of the connection, not full controller compatibility. Fix this by checking the phone model and the controller edition together. This is particularly important for the G8 Type-C model, which is officially listed for Android.
Leaving a thick case out of the calculation
Direct-connect controllers need the plug and side supports to reach the handset. If the fit is tight, remove the case before testing; never force the connector or let the phone hang at an angle.
Expecting every mobile controller to replace a multi-platform pad
Integrated controllers are convenient, but the Pro 3 is the explicitly multi-platform option across Switch, Windows, SteamOS, Android and Apple. If you play on several systems, compare the total convenience of one wireless pad and a clip against a dedicated phone controller.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Assuming remote play and cloud play are the same feature
Backbone Pro’s documented emphasis is official remote play for Xbox, PlayStation and PC libraries. Kishi V2’s Nexus page mentions Xbox Game Pass streaming. Choose based on whether you are streaming your own console or PC session, using a cloud catalog, or doing both.
Treating a review price as a permanent price
The G8 Galileo’s $79.99 / £79.99 / AU$129.99 figure came from TechRadar’s 2026 review. Check the seller and region at checkout; do not apply that number to another model or assume it is still current.
Bottom line
Buy the Razer Kishi V2 for the most compact direct-connect setup and touch-control remapping. Buy Backbone Pro for official Xbox, PlayStation and PC remote play plus flexible headset options. Buy GameSir G8 Galileo for full-size comfort, Hall-effect inputs and rear buttons, with Android and case compatibility confirmed first. Buy the 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller – Xbox Edition for an 8BitDo-based mobile setup with rear paddles. Keep the 8BitDo Pro 3 when Bluetooth flexibility, multi-platform support and switchable ABXY layouts outweigh the convenience of an integrated phone controller.
