For nearby VEX competitions, start with the public event and team information source OpenScout names: events.vex.com. For concerts, community meetups, ticketed activities, and other everyday events, use a general discovery service such as Eventbrite, Meetup, Facebook Events, or AllEvents. None is established as a replacement for OpenScout’s VEX-specific tracking and scouting tools.
What OpenScout does—and what it does not
OpenScout’s app listing describes an independent app for following VEX robotics teams and tournaments. It advertises team following, search across VEX events, live standings and results, match scouting notes, picklists, and tournament mode. The listing identifies events.vex.com as the source of its public event and team information. OpenScout also says it is not affiliated with or endorsed by VEX Robotics or Innovation First International.
That distinction matters when choosing an alternative. A service that lists neighborhood events may help you find a concert or community activity, but the available information does not show that general event apps provide VEX team tracking, live results, scouting notes, picklists, or tournament navigation.
Best options for finding local events
| Service | Best suited to | VEX-specific coverage and features | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| events.vex.com | Starting a search for VEX events and teams | Named by OpenScout as its public event and team information source. The available evidence does not establish that it offers OpenScout’s mobile experience or all of its tracking, live-result, scouting, and picklist features. | Website |
| Eventbrite | Broad event discovery, particularly published events with ticketing | VEX tournament coverage not established. | Marketplace and event platform |
| Meetup | Recurring interest groups and local communities | VEX tournament coverage and competition-tracking tools not established. | Community platform |
| Facebook Events | Discovering and creating events through Facebook | VEX tournament coverage and OpenScout-equivalent features not established. | Facebook feature |
| AllEvents | City-wide event discovery, recommendations, event details, and ticket information | VEX tournament coverage not established. | App Store-listed app |
| Bandsintown | Concerts and live-music discovery | VEX tournament coverage and competition-tracking tools not established. | Music discovery service |
For VEX competitions: start with the event source OpenScout names
Use events.vex.com as the first place to look for VEX event and team information because OpenScout’s listing identifies it as its public data source. The available evidence does not confirm the site’s full current feature set, regional completeness, or whether it provides a mobile experience comparable to OpenScout.

If you need team following, live standings, scouting notes, picklists, or tournament mode, check those features individually in any VEX-focused alternative you consider. Do not assume that a site listing competitions also supports those workflows.
For ticketed and broadly listed activities: Eventbrite
Eventbrite’s official discovery information says published event pages can become searchable on its marketplace and describes recommendations, search visibility, and organizer analytics. That makes it a reasonable starting point for ticketed activities and broad event listings, but it does not establish VEX tournament coverage.

For recurring groups: Meetup
Meetup is the better fit when the goal is to find an ongoing interest group or local community rather than a one-off ticketed event. The available comparison information does not establish it as a VEX competition tracker.
For events shared through a social network: Facebook Events
Facebook still supports event creation and discovery at facebook.com/events. Meta’s 3 May 2023 update says people can continue to create and find events there. The separate Facebook Events app transitioned into Facebook Local in 2017, and Facebook Local was deprecated in early 2021; neither standalone app should be treated as a current option.

For concerts: Bandsintown
Bandsintown is relevant when “local events” means live music. It is a specialist for concerts, not a general-purpose VEX tournament service.
