Choose Anker Soundcore Space A40 if you want a clear ANC and battery upgrade, 1MORE ComfoBuds Mini if a discreet, comfortable shell matters most, or Sony WF-C700N for Sony’s adaptive listening and app features in a compact design. The JLab JBuds Mini ANC remains the size benchmark, so every alternative involves a specific trade-off in endurance, features, protection or shell size.
What the JLab JBuds Mini ANC sets as the baseline
JLab positions the JBuds Mini ANC as the smallest true-wireless earbuds with active noise cancelling from a major headphone brand. Its official 2026 specifications list more than seven hours from each earbud, more than 25 hours including the charging case, 5.5 hours with ANC enabled, an IP55 rating, multipoint connectivity and a 6 mm dynamic driver. The product’s official dimensions are 0.8 inches high, 0.52 inches long and 0.84 inches wide, with a listed total product weight of 6.7 g. Three gel-tip sizes are included for smaller ears.
TechRadar’s hands-on description gives the earbuds as 19 × 21 × 14 mm and records a $39.99 launch price. In that review, the fit stayed stable while walking, exercising and shaking the head, although one ear-tip seal could break when the reviewer leaned back. Those are useful observations, not a guarantee that the same shell will seal in every ear.
These figures explain why the JLab is a demanding reference point. An alternative must either approach its unusually small footprint or offer a benefit large enough to justify a bigger body. The main benefits available in the models below are stronger measured ANC, longer single-charge endurance, a more comfort-oriented shell, adaptive listening, better codec support or a richer equalizer.

1MORE ComfoBuds Mini: the comfort-first alternative
Why it suits small ears
SoundGuys names the 1MORE ComfoBuds Mini its best-sounding earbuds for small ears. The review emphasizes a small, comfortable and portable shell rather than a specification-sheet dimension. That distinction matters: an earbud can be short on paper yet press against the concha, while a slightly different shape can disappear more comfortably. The ComfoBuds Mini is the choice to try when the JLab’s size is appealing but you want an alternative that puts long-wear comfort and sound ahead of maximum battery.
Use the supplied tips to obtain a light, even seal. The correct tip should remain secure during ordinary movement without creating pressure in the ear canal. Because ear canals are often different sizes, test each ear independently rather than assuming the same tip size belongs on both sides.
ANC and listening performance
SoundGuys measured ANC at 7.4/10 and described the noise cancelling as good for the price. That is below the Space A40’s 8.5/10 score but still meaningful for steady background noise when the passive seal is good. The score is an independent test result, not a promise that every listener will experience the same reduction; fit, music volume and the frequency of the noise all affect the result.
The same review identifies sound as a strength. If you prefer a small earbud for music, podcasts and travel without spending all day changing settings, this model is the closest match to that priority. It does not offer custom EQ, so you cannot create a personalized frequency profile in the way the Space A40 allows.
Battery and weaknesses
SoundGuys measured 5.3 hours per charge. That is close to the JLab’s 5.5-hour official figure with ANC on, but it is far below the Space A40’s 10-hour test result. The cited assessment also found poor microphone quality. For phone calls in quiet rooms it may be adequate, but frequent calls in busy places are a reason to choose another model or keep the JLab, Space A40 or Sony option in consideration.
Choose the ComfoBuds Mini when your decision order is comfort, sound and a discreet appearance, followed by acceptable ANC. Do not choose it expecting a custom-EQ system, a documented long-run battery advantage or a microphone specialist.

Anker Soundcore Space A40: the ANC and endurance upgrade
What improves over the JLab
SoundGuys names the Space A40 its best noise-cancelling earbuds for small ears. Its 8.5/10 ANC score is the strongest independent rating in this comparison, and the testing found particularly effective cancellation in the 40–100 Hz range—the low-frequency rumble common on public transport and in mechanical environments. The body is larger than the JLab, so this is an upgrade in performance rather than a like-for-like size replacement.
Recommended Free Tools
The battery is the other decisive advantage. SoundGuys measured 10 hours per charge, compared with the JLab’s official 5.5 hours with ANC active and the ComfoBuds Mini’s 5.3-hour test. The 10-hour figure is a test result, not a universal runtime: ANC level, codec, volume and call use can all reduce endurance.
Features for commuters and multi-device users
Bluetooth multipoint lets the earbuds maintain connections with two compatible devices, useful when moving between a computer and a phone. LDAC support is available for compatible Android devices and sources; the benefit depends on the source device, settings and wireless conditions. Bluetooth 5.2 is the listed Bluetooth version.
SoundGuys reports 22 EQ presets. That gives you substantially more adjustment than the ComfoBuds Mini’s no-custom-EQ limitation and is useful when you want to reduce bass emphasis for speech or tailor music without changing the source device. Presets do not guarantee a particular sound signature across every ear, because the seal remains part of the acoustic system.
Protection and fit trade-off
The Space A40 carries an IPX4 water-resistance rating. That is suitable for splashes and sweat in ordinary use, but it does not provide the JLab’s IP55 dust-and-water protection. Avoid treating either rating as permission to submerge the earbuds or expose them to pressurized water.

SoundGuys includes it in a small-ear buying guide, yet the larger body can be more noticeable than the JLab or ComfoBuds Mini. Readers whose ears tolerate that extra size get the clearest combination of ANC, battery, multipoint, codec support and EQ in this group.

Sony WF-C700N: compact adaptive listening
Small shell with Sony processing
What Hi-Fi? describes the WF-C700N’s dimensions as impressively small, making it the Sony-specific alternative for listeners who do not want a large housing. The cited report does not provide exact measurements, so the description should be treated as comparative rather than a promise that it will sit flush in every small concha.
Its defining software feature is Sony Adaptive Sound Control, which adjusts listening behavior according to the configured environment and activity. That makes the WF-C700N attractive when you want automatic changes between noise control and awareness rather than manually switching modes throughout the day.
Battery and multipoint
What Hi-Fi? reports 7.5 hours with Bluetooth and ANC enabled, or 10 hours with ANC off. The charging case provides only one extra charge. In practical terms, the earbuds themselves can cover a workday under the stated conditions, but the case offers less reserve than a design built around a larger case battery. If you routinely travel for several days without a power outlet, the Space A40’s tested endurance is the safer choice.
Multipoint was added through a summer 2023 firmware update. Update the earbuds before judging the feature, and confirm that the firmware has installed successfully in Sony’s companion software. Firmware behavior can change over time, so the update date identifies when the cited capability was added rather than guaranteeing an identical interface forever.
Protection and who should buy it
The WF-C700N is rated IPX4. It is a sensible gym and commuting option when you need splash resistance, but it has less environmental protection on paper than the JLab’s IP55 rating. Pick it for Sony’s adaptive sound processing, compact dimensions and multipoint, not for the largest case reserve or the highest independently scored ANC in this comparison.
How to choose among the three alternatives
Start with the physical fit
Small ears are not one shape. A short earbud may still press on the antihelix; a wider model may sit comfortably if its weight is distributed differently. Compare the documented facts carefully: the JLab has the only exact official dimensions in this set, the ComfoBuds Mini is described as small and comfortable, the Space A40 is explicitly larger than the JLab, and the WF-C700N is described as impressively small without a published measurement in the cited report.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Choose the JLab when minimum shell size and three documented tip sizes are the first requirement.
- Try the ComfoBuds Mini when a discreet, comfort-led shape matters more than EQ or call quality.
- Accept the Space A40’s larger body only if its ANC and battery advantages solve a real problem.
- Consider the WF-C700N when a compact Sony design and adaptive listening are worth prioritizing over case endurance.
Separate passive seal from electronic ANC
ANC cannot compensate fully for an air gap around the ear tip. A poor seal lets voices and high-frequency noise through before the electronics can help, while a good seal can make any ANC system seem stronger. The SoundGuys scores (8.5/10 for Space A40 and 7.4/10 for ComfoBuds Mini) are useful comparisons under test conditions, but they are not fit guarantees. The Sony report confirms ANC support without giving a comparable numerical score, and the JLab’s documented 5.5-hour ANC runtime describes endurance rather than cancellation strength.

Match battery claims to your routine
Use the operating condition beside each number. The JLab’s more-than-seven-hour figure is per earbud, while its 5.5-hour figure is specifically with ANC on; its more-than-25-hour number includes the case. The Space A40’s 10-hour result and ComfoBuds Mini’s 5.3-hour result are independent per-charge measurements. Sony’s 7.5-hour figure includes Bluetooth and ANC, while 10 hours is the ANC-off result and the case adds one extra charge. These are not interchangeable laboratory specifications.
Prioritize software only when you will use it
Multipoint is valuable if you switch between two devices. LDAC matters only when your source supports it and you accept its power and connection trade-offs. EQ presets matter if you regularly adjust sound; the Space A40 offers 22, while the ComfoBuds Mini has no custom EQ. Adaptive Sound Control is the reason to favor Sony when you want listening behavior to respond to context rather than remain fixed.
Use protection ratings realistically
IP55 gives the JLab a stronger stated dust-and-water rating than the IPX4 ratings on Space A40 and WF-C700N. The ComfoBuds Mini protection rating is not stated in the cited summary. None of these ratings should be interpreted as waterproofing for swimming or deliberate submersion. Wipe sweat and moisture from the earbuds and contacts before placing them in a charging case.
Fit and setup procedure for small ears
- Start with the smallest tip that seals. Insert the earbud gently and rotate it only as much as needed to stabilize it. A tip that is too large can create pressure; one that is too small can leak and fall out.
- Test each ear separately. Ear canals commonly differ. Use different tip sizes if that produces a more stable seal on both sides.
- Walk and move your head before committing. TechRadar’s JLab observation shows why a stationary fit check is insufficient: the fit remained stable during walking and gym movement, yet one seal broke when leaning back. Repeat those movements with whichever alternative you choose.
- Listen first with ANC off, then on. This separates the mechanical seal from the electronic cancellation. If bass becomes thin or outside noise remains unusually loud with ANC on, reseat the earbud instead of immediately assuming the ANC hardware is weak.
- Check both earbuds’ charging contacts. A bud that is not fully seated can appear to have a battery problem. Clean, dry contacts and confirm that the case recognizes both earbuds before leaving home.
- Install available firmware before evaluating software features. This is especially important for the WF-C700N, whose multipoint support was added in a summer 2023 firmware update.
- Configure one mode for awareness. ANC is useful for steady background noise, but awareness mode is safer when you need to hear announcements, traffic or colleagues. Sony’s Adaptive Sound Control is designed for listeners who prefer that behavior to be automated.
Which model fits common situations?
Daily train or airplane commuting
Pick the Space A40 if the main complaint is low-frequency rumble. Its 8.5/10 SoundGuys ANC result and reported strength at 40–100 Hz directly address that use, and its 10-hour per-charge measurement reduces charging interruptions. The larger body and IPX4 rating are the trade-offs.

Calls and computer-to-phone switching
Multipoint on the JLab, Space A40 and updated WF-C700N can simplify device switching. The ComfoBuds Mini’s poor microphone result makes it the least attractive option for people who spend much of the day on calls. None of the cited material establishes a microphone winner among the remaining models, so choose on fit and connectivity rather than assuming ANC performance predicts call quality.
Workouts and outdoor use
The JLab’s IP55 rating is the strongest stated protection here. Space A40 and WF-C700N are IPX4, suitable for ordinary splashes and sweat but not dust-rated in the listed specification. Fit still matters more than the rating during movement: test walking, head turns and the body positions you actually use.
Frequent travelers without reliable charging
The Space A40 is the practical endurance pick based on its 10-hour per-charge test. The JLab’s more-than-25-hour case total is also strong for its size. Sony’s case adds only one extra charge, so the WF-C700N is better suited to travelers who can recharge regularly or who value its adaptive features more than reserve capacity.
Pitfalls that lead to a bad choice
- Buying by dimensions alone: the JLab’s numbers do not predict how its contours will contact your concha, and the alternatives lack directly comparable published measurements in the cited reports.
- Comparing battery numbers without conditions: ANC-on, ANC-off, per-earbud and case-total figures describe different tests. Keep the operating condition attached to every number.
- Assuming a high ANC score fixes a loose fit: the seal remains the first line of isolation. Try another tip or position before judging the electronics.
- Ignoring the case reserve: Sony’s one-extra-charge case can be limiting even though the earbuds themselves last 7.5 hours with ANC.
- Overlooking software limitations: ComfoBuds Mini has no custom EQ; Space A40’s LDAC requires a compatible source; WF-C700N multipoint depends on the relevant firmware.
- Treating IP ratings as waterproofing: IPX4 and IP55 describe resistance under defined conditions, not swimming or submersion.
- Using a launch price as a current price: the $39.99 figure belongs to TechRadar’s JLab launch-period report. Prices, stock, regional bundles and firmware can change, so verify the current offer in your country before buying.
Bottom-line buying decision
The Soundcore Space A40 is the strongest all-round alternative when ANC and per-charge endurance outrank the JLab’s tiny shell. The 1MORE ComfoBuds Mini is the most logical comfort-and-sound experiment for very small ears, provided its microphone and EQ limitations do not matter. The Sony WF-C700N occupies the feature-focused middle ground: compact dimensions, adaptive listening and multipoint, but only one extra case charge. Keep the JLab JBuds Mini ANC as the reference choice when the smallest documented body, three tip sizes and IP55 protection outweigh the alternatives’ performance advantages.
Fit is anatomical, not numerical. Buy from a seller with a clear return policy when possible, test both ears through your normal movements, and judge ANC only after you have established a stable seal.
