There is no single Android feature that matches every part of iOS 27 AI Shortcuts. Choose Samsung Modes and Routines if you own a Galaxy phone and want native If/Then automation; Tasker for maximum control and complex logic; MacroDroid for a visual builder with less technical overhead; IFTTT for automations that connect web services and smart-home platforms; or Gemini multi-step tasks if your device, apps and region are included in Google’s limited beta.
That distinction matters because iOS 27 combines natural-language shortcut creation, Apple Intelligence assistance inside the Shortcuts editor and a broad system-and-app action model. Android’s options divide those jobs among different tools. The most suitable replacement depends on your phone, the events you need to detect, the services you want to control and whether you are willing to configure workflows manually.
What iOS 27 AI Shortcuts actually adds
Apple’s iOS 27 documentation describes two notable changes to Shortcuts. Existing shortcuts can be summarized with Apple Intelligence in the editor, and Siri AI is available in beta. The iPhone guide also lets a user open Shortcuts and describe the desired result, rather than assembling every action from a blank canvas. Some server-side Apple Intelligence features have daily usage limits, so even Apple’s experience is not unlimited.
Recommended Free Tools
Apple lists Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, plus iPhone 16 or later, as supported hardware in that guide. Availability can still vary by language, account, software version and region. Apple’s WWDC26 developer documentation says iOS 27 workflows can use Apple Foundation Models, cloud models such as Claude and Gemini, or another provider that conforms to Apple’s Language Model protocol. In other words, the headline feature is prompt-assisted construction on top of a mature action system, not merely a chatbot that suggests a reminder.

Samsung Modes and Routines: the closest built-in Galaxy equivalent
Samsung’s official guide presents Modes and Routines as a native If/Then system. A trigger can be arriving at work, reaching a bedtime schedule or another supported device state; actions can mute notification sounds, turn on Wi-Fi or lower screen brightness. Custom modes can also enable Do Not Disturb, restrict app use, change appearance and add widgets. A routine can be started from Modes and Routines itself, Bixby or Google Assistant.
How to create a routine
- Open Settings and select Modes and Routines. Samsung’s exact menu wording can differ slightly by One UI release.
- Tap Routines, then choose Add routine.
- Under If, select the event or condition, such as a time, location, connection or device state.
- Under Then, select the settings or actions to apply. Examples from Samsung’s guide include enabling Wi-Fi when you arrive at work or reducing brightness at bedtime.
- Review any additional conditions, give the routine a recognizable name and tap Save.
Use a custom mode instead of a routine when the goal is a sustained context, such as Work or Sleep, that should also alter notifications, permitted apps, appearance or widgets. Use a routine for a discrete If/Then response. This separation makes Galaxy’s tool easier to maintain than a long chain of unrelated actions.
Where Samsung is a good fit
- You want automation without installing a separate tool.
- Your actions mainly involve Galaxy settings, connectivity, sound, brightness, notifications and app availability.
- You want to start a workflow through Bixby or Google Assistant after creating it.
Important limits
Modes and Routines is not a universal Android feature. Samsung states that availability varies by device and software version, and the available triggers and actions can change with One UI updates. It also does not provide the same general natural-language shortcut-generation experience Apple describes for iOS 27. If a setting or app action is missing from the editor, a more extensible automation app may be required.
Tasker: the power-user replacement
Tasker is the strongest choice when the requirement is not merely a simple routine but a programmable Android workflow. Its official user guide is organized around profiles, tasks and variables. A profile watches for a context, a task performs actions and variables carry values between steps. That model supports conditional branches, loops, state tracking and device-specific behavior that guided routine editors usually do not expose.

How a basic Tasker automation is structured
- Create a profile and select the context that should start it, such as a time, location, application, notification or device event supported on your phone.
- Attach a task to the profile.
- Add actions in the order they should run. Actions may change device settings, launch apps, process text or call an extension, subject to Android permissions and the capabilities of your handset.
- Add variables when later steps need information produced by earlier steps. Use conditions to prevent the task from running in the wrong context.
- Test the profile with the device unlocked, then test again under the real conditions in which it must operate.
Tasker’s depth is also its cost in time. You must understand contexts, action results, variable scope, Android background restrictions and any permissions requested by plugins. A profile that works on one phone may need adjustments on another because manufacturers limit background execution differently.
Choose Tasker when
- The workflow has several branches or depends on values that change at runtime.
- You need detailed control of device state, notifications, app launches or external extensions.
- You are prepared to diagnose permissions, battery optimization and manufacturer-specific behavior.
Tasker is not a direct AI replacement for iOS 27’s prompt-to-shortcut flow. You generally design the logic yourself. Its advantage is that, once designed, the resulting workflow can be more specific and extensible than a guided routine.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsMacroDroid: the approachable visual builder
MacroDroid targets users who want more than built-in routines without learning a programming-style automation system. Its vendor describes a three-part interface: choose a trigger, add actions and set constraints. The site says the app includes more than 350 built-in triggers, actions and constraints and has more than 30 million downloads. Those figures are vendor-published claims accessed October 20, 2026, not an independent audit of market share or feature coverage.
Build a macro
- Open MacroDroid and start a new macro.
- Select one or more triggers, such as a schedule, location, connectivity change, notification or supported sensor event.
- Add the actions to perform, for example changing a setting, opening an app or sending information to a service.
- Add constraints so the macro runs only when appropriate, such as during selected hours, while connected to a particular network or when another condition is true.
- Name the macro, enable it and run a controlled test before relying on it.
The visual trigger/action/constraint model is easier to scan than a long script and makes MacroDroid a practical first step for people who find Tasker intimidating. It still relies on Android’s permission system. Accessibility access, notification access, location permission, unrestricted battery use or other privileges may be necessary for particular actions, and Android or a phone manufacturer can block background work.
Best uses and trade-offs
MacroDroid suits recurring phone behaviors, notification responses, connectivity changes and straightforward multi-step routines. It is less suitable when you need highly specialized logic that has no available action or when you require a guaranteed cloud-to-cloud integration; in those cases, Tasker extensions or IFTTT may be a better match. The advertised component count should be read as breadth of the vendor’s catalog, not a promise that every component works on every Android release.

IFTTT: best for web services and smart-home connections
IFTTT’s Android documentation covers two relevant families of triggers. Android Activity triggers can react to driving, running or bicycling. Android Device automations can use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections, ringtone changes, music and navigation actions. These triggers feed applets that connect supported services, such as calendars, messaging, smart-home platforms and web applications.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
How an IFTTT applet differs from a phone routine
An IFTTT applet is strongest when the workflow crosses service boundaries. For example, an Android activity event might update a service that another app consumes, or a connection event might trigger a smart-home action. The work is often evaluated in the cloud, so it is not the same as a local device routine that changes a setting instantly.
- Choose Create in IFTTT and select an Android Activity or Android Device trigger that your account and phone support.
- Configure the event details, such as the activity type or connected network/device.
- Choose the service action that should follow, then authorize the required accounts.
- Review whether the action depends on an internet connection, a third-party service remaining available or a location permission.
- Enable the applet and test both the trigger and the downstream service.
IFTTT’s own comparison guidance distinguishes it from Tasker and MacroDroid by emphasizing cross-service automation. Choose it when the destination is a web service or smart-home platform. Choose a local automation tool when the requirement is fast, offline or tightly tied to phone settings.
Gemini multi-step tasks: Android’s emerging AI-agent path
Gemini multi-step daily tasks are the closest first-party Android direction toward describing a goal in natural language and having an agent carry out several steps. Google announced the feature as a beta initially for Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S26 series phones in the United States and South Korea. That is an eligibility statement, not a guarantee that every owner of one of those models has access; account, software, language and staged rollout conditions can still apply.
Google separately describes Android AppFunctions, an interface through which apps expose data and actions directly to AI agents. The initial curated beta covers food delivery, grocery and rideshare categories in the United States and South Korea. AppFunctions could eventually let an agent perform useful app actions without every app requiring a custom shortcut integration, but the current catalog is limited.

What to check before relying on Gemini tasks
- Confirm that your exact phone model is included in the beta and that your country is the United States or South Korea.
- Check that the app you want to control participates in the supported task or AppFunctions catalog.
- Review what confirmations the agent requests before purchases, messages, bookings or other consequential actions.
- Expect the feature set and supported devices to change as Google expands or revises the beta.
Gemini is the only option in this list aimed directly at prompt-driven, multi-step execution, but it is not yet a universal Android Shortcuts replacement. For a dependable workflow today, pair it conceptually with a conventional automation tool rather than assuming every app or system setting is agent-accessible.
Compare the alternatives on the five decisions that matter
| Alternative | Device coverage | Trigger depth | Action reach | Natural-language AI | Learning and reliability considerations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Modes and Routines | Galaxy devices with supported One UI versions | Common time, location, connectivity and device contexts | Galaxy settings, notifications, modes, appearance, widgets and supported app controls | No equivalent to iOS 27 prompt-generated shortcuts | Guided and easy to start; feature availability varies by model and software |
| Tasker | Broad Android coverage, subject to OS and manufacturer limits | Deep profiles for time, location, apps, notifications, sensors and device state | System actions, app launches, variables and extensions where permissions allow | Workflows are normally built manually | Most powerful; requires substantial configuration and testing |
| MacroDroid | Broad Android coverage, with action limits by device and OS | Large catalog of triggers plus constraints; vendor advertises more than 350 combined components | Phone actions, apps, notifications and supported integrations | No native iOS-style prompt builder described by the vendor | Visual and approachable; permissions and background limits still matter |
| IFTTT | Android plus supported online services | Android Activity and Device events, then service-specific triggers | Cloud services, smart-home platforms and web applets | Not a general natural-language shortcut generator | Simple applet model; internet and third-party uptime are dependencies |
| Gemini multi-step tasks | Beta-limited Pixel 10/10 Pro and Galaxy S26 series in the United States and South Korea at announcement | Agent-selected steps rather than a general exposed trigger catalog | Participating apps through Gemini and Android AppFunctions | Yes, natural-language multi-step tasks | Most limited availability; behavior, confirmations and app support can change during beta |
How to choose without testing every app
Start with the phone you already own
Galaxy owners should first inspect Modes and Routines because it is integrated, uses familiar settings and avoids adding another automation service. Owners of other Android phones can go directly to MacroDroid for a visual workflow or Tasker for deeper control. Do not select Gemini solely because it is AI-driven unless your exact device and region are eligible.
Classify the trigger
Write down what starts the workflow: a time, place, app opening, notification, movement activity, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection, sensor state or a request typed in natural language. Samsung and the specialist automation apps are strongest for local device events. IFTTT is useful when the trigger or result belongs to an online service. Gemini tasks are appropriate only when the beta supports the goal.
Classify the action
Separate a phone-setting action from a service action. Turning on Wi-Fi, changing brightness or enabling Do Not Disturb usually belongs in a native routine or local automation app. Updating a calendar, smart-home service or web application points toward IFTTT. Ordering, shopping or ride-related app actions may be available through Gemini AppFunctions only in the initial supported categories and countries.
Decide how much logic you need
- One condition and a few settings: use Samsung Modes and Routines or MacroDroid.
- Several branches, variables or state checks: use Tasker.
- Multiple online services: use IFTTT.
- A natural-language request across participating apps: try Gemini if eligible, while keeping a manually configured fallback for important tasks.
Making Android automations dependable
Grant only the permissions the workflow needs
Location, notification, accessibility, Bluetooth, calendar, contacts and unrestricted background activity each expand what an automation can do. Grant the minimum required permission, read the explanation shown by the operating system and remove access when you retire a workflow. A routine that silently fails because a permission was revoked is safer than one that has unnecessary access to personal data.

- 【Reduce Safety Risks】Cable tray under desk keeps all plugs away from your kids, no more worry about tripping. Using 2 holes wire tray saves extra space, helps you easily cabling and wire protection. The mesh design is not easy to accumulate dust, but avoids safety accidents caused by messy wires.
Check battery and background restrictions
Android manufacturers may suspend background apps to extend battery life. If a time- or location-based automation works only while the automation app is open, inspect the app’s battery setting and the phone’s background-activity controls. Changing those settings can increase battery use, so apply an exception only to the app that needs it.
Test edge cases
- Run the workflow with the phone locked and unlocked.
- Test with Wi-Fi unavailable, mobile data unavailable and the relevant Bluetooth device disconnected.
- Check what happens if the trigger occurs twice before the first run finishes.
- Confirm that a failed action leaves the phone in a safe state.
- For cloud applets, test a temporary loss of internet service and verify whether the event is retried or lost.
Keep a manual escape route
Every important automation should have a visible manual alternative: a quick setting, widget, app shortcut or voice command. This matters when an update changes an action, a service is offline or a beta agent asks for confirmation and stops. For routines that affect work notifications, navigation or home security, manual override is more valuable than adding another layer of complexity.
Common failure modes and fixes
The trigger never fires
Recheck that the profile, macro, routine or applet is enabled; verify the exact location, time zone, network name or activity permission; and remove battery restrictions for the responsible app if Android is stopping it in the background. On Galaxy phones, confirm that your One UI version supports the selected trigger.
The trigger fires but an action is missing
Some Android settings are protected or manufacturer-specific. Try a native Samsung action on a Galaxy phone, a different action exposed by the automation app or an app-specific integration. Do not assume that an action documented for one phone model exists on another.
A cloud workflow is delayed
IFTTT applets depend on internet access and the availability of each connected service. Check the applet’s activity log, reauthorize an expired account and determine whether the source service issued the event. A local Tasker, MacroDroid or Samsung routine may be a better fit when immediate response or offline behavior is essential.
Gemini cannot complete the request
Verify beta eligibility, country, account and app participation first. If the requested app is outside the current AppFunctions categories, Gemini may be unable to perform the action even though it can discuss it. Use a conventional routine or applet for a repeatable task that does not require agent reasoning.
Bottom line: match the tool to the job
For most Galaxy owners, Samsung Modes and Routines is the practical first choice because it is native and covers everyday If/Then settings changes. MacroDroid is the easiest step up when you want a visual builder on a wider range of Android phones. Tasker remains the best option for intricate logic, variables and extensibility. IFTTT wins when the workflow crosses smart-home or web services. Gemini multi-step tasks are the most promising answer to the specific question, “Can Android create an AI shortcut from a prompt?”, but their beta device, app and regional limits prevent them from replacing Android automation generally.
