Is Firefox Screenshots discontinued?
No. Mozilla’s 2019 clarification said the Screenshots feature was not being removed. What ended was the option to save images to a Firefox-hosted server; browser capture, downloading, and clipboard copying remained. Mozilla’s current support instructions document full-page, visible-area, and selected-region capture. Mozilla’s clarification and Firefox screenshot instructions explain the distinction.

These options are not a tested reliability ranking. Choose by capture scope (viewport, region, element, or whole page), output format, editing and redaction needs, browser compatibility, protected-page behavior, privacy requirements, and whether you need a manual tool or automation.
Use Firefox’s built-in screenshot interface
- Open the page you want to capture in Firefox.
- Right-click the page and choose Take Screenshot. Depending on the version and interface, you can also use the screenshot button if it is available in the toolbar.
- Choose the full-page, visible-area, or selection option. Firefox may also let you select an automatically highlighted page part.
- Choose to download the image or copy it to the clipboard.
Use a region capture when you need only a specific part of a page. Choose full page when content outside the current viewport matters. Mozilla says Firefox Screenshots collects interaction data such as use of Copy or Save full page, but not the URL or details of the captured image; its support page describes an opt-out through Firefox’s technical and interaction data setting. This statement applies to Firefox Screenshots as Mozilla documents it, not to third-party extensions.

Enable and use the screenshot toolbar button
- Open Developer Tools and open toolbox settings.
- Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Use the screenshot button in the toolbox. Firefox saves the capture to Downloads.
Capture a specific element
- Open Developer Tools and select the Inspector.
- Find the element in the page or markup.
- Open its context menu and choose Screenshot Node.
Use the Web Console helper
For a full-page capture with a chosen filename, run this in Firefox’s Web Console:

Full-page mode includes content outside the current window bounds. Firefox screenshot extensions for editing and export

The Mozilla Add-ons listing describes OpenScreenShot as an open-source extension for desktop Firefox 140 or later. Listed capabilities include full-page, visible-area, and region capture; crop, arrows, text, shapes, and blur; PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF export; clipboard copy; local history; shortcuts; and delayed or repeat-region captures. The listing says capture and editing occur locally without an account and that browser-protected pages cannot be captured. It also lists an MIT license and permissions for clipboard input and downloads/download-history access, and the developer declares no data collection. These are listing and developer statements, not an independent audit. At the time of the cited listing, it showed version 2.1.0, updated September 12, 2026, and no user reviews. The vendor says its free capture and editing work locally in the browser without uploads or a required account. It lists tiled logo/text watermarking at $5 for 1,000 credits as a one-time purchase; pricing and availability can change, so check the OpenCapture website. Its GitHub repository describes the project as AGPL-3.0-or-later and says capture, annotation, and export work without an account, with an optional account relevant to watermark unlocking. These are vendor/project descriptions, not independent tests.

Common capture problems and what to check
- The screenshot choice is missing: Firefox interface labels and placement can vary by version. Try right-clicking the page; for DevTools capture, check toolbox settings and enable the screenshot button.
- You need only one component: Use the Inspector’s Screenshot Node command rather than capturing the whole page and cropping afterward.
- Full-page content is missing: Use Firefox’s full-page mode rather than a visible-area capture. In DevTools, Mozilla documents
--fullpageas including content outside the current window bounds. - An extension cannot capture a page: OpenScreenShot’s listing explicitly excludes browser-protected pages. The documentation reviewed here does not establish that every other option works on every page; use a different capture method where browser restrictions permit.
- You need blur or annotation: Choose an extension whose listing documents those editing tools, such as OpenScreenShot or OpenCapture, and verify its current version and permissions before installing.
