Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a quick full-page screenshot without Chrome DevTools, try Microsoft Edge’s built-in Screenshot tool first: it can capture a full page or a selected area, then let you mark up, copy, or save the result. If you use Firefox, its Developer Tools can capture a page or an individual element. OpenCapture is an extension option when you want editing and export controls. Windows Snipping Tool is useful for a visible screen, window, or region, but Microsoft’s documented modes do not establish full-page webpage scrolling capture.
Which Chrome DevTools alternative should you use?
| Option | Full-page webpage capture | Best suited to | Considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Edge Screenshot | Yes; full page or selected area | A quick browser-native capture with markup | Microsoft says availability and functionality can vary by device, market, and browser version. Microsoft Edge Screenshot Tool |
| Firefox screenshot tools | Yes; entire page or an element | Firefox users, especially those who want element capture or command-level control | The Developer Tools screenshot button must be enabled first; the console method is more technical. Mozilla Firefox Source Docs: Taking screenshots |
| OpenCapture extension | Yes, according to its publisher | People seeking editing and PNG/PDF export in a browser extension | Features and local-processing statements are publisher claims, not an independent audit; extension-store availability may change. OpenCapture · OpenCapture repository |
| Windows Snipping Tool | Not established by Microsoft’s cited documentation | Capturing a visible screen, window, or region | Its documented capture modes are not a substitute for a scrolling webpage capture. Microsoft Support: Snipping Tool |
| Snagit | Not established by the reviewed primary documentation | A possible paid desktop capture candidate | Current full-page behavior and pricing are not established here; confirm them with TechSmith before choosing it. TechRadar’s Snagit review |
For the simplest route, start with Edge Screenshot if you are willing to use Edge. Choose Firefox if you already work in Firefox or need an element-level capture. Consider OpenCapture if its advertised editing and export functions fit your workflow and you are comfortable checking its current permissions and store listing before installing.
Capture a full webpage with Microsoft Edge
Edge is the most direct built-in alternative in the reviewed options. Microsoft describes the tool as able to capture a full page or selected area, including long or moving webpages, and then add comments or markup before copying or saving. The precise availability and behavior can differ across devices, markets, and browser versions.
- Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge.
- Open the browser’s Screenshot feature. If the control is not visible in your Edge version, use Edge’s current menus or toolbar customization to look for it; the feature’s availability can vary.
- Choose the full-page capture option, rather than selecting only the visible portion.
- Review the captured page, add markup if needed, then copy or save the screenshot using the controls presented by Edge.
If you only need a particular portion, use the selected-area option instead of capturing the whole page and cropping afterward.

Capture an entire page with Firefox
Firefox offers two approaches: enable the screenshot control in Developer Tools for a point-and-click workflow, or run a command in the Web Console. Mozilla documents both entire-page and single-element screenshots.
Enable the Developer Tools screenshot button
- Open Firefox Developer Tools and open its settings.
- Under the available toolbox buttons, enable the screenshot button.
- Return to the webpage, open the Developer Tools toolbox, and use the screenshot button to capture the page or element as offered by the tool.
The button must be enabled before it appears in the toolbox. Exact labels and placement may vary with Firefox versions.

Use the Web Console for full-page capture
- Open the target page in Firefox.
- Open Web Console from Developer Tools.
- Enter
:screenshot --fullpageand run it. Firefox’s screenshot command also supports options for delay, device pixel ratio, filename, clipboard, and CSS selector.
For example, a selector can target a specific element instead of the entire document; consult Mozilla’s Taking screenshots documentation for the command’s current syntax and supported options.
Use OpenCapture when you want editing and export controls
OpenCapture’s publisher describes an extension for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox that can capture full pages and offers crop, annotation, blur, and PNG/PDF export. It may suit you if you want to edit or redact an image as part of the browser workflow rather than capture and then open another editor.

When Windows Snipping Tool is enough
Snipping Tool is a useful choice when the content fits in the visible screen or you need a window, rectangular region, or freeform capture. Microsoft documents freeform, rectangular, window, and full-screen snips, along with annotation and save/share workflows. That documentation does not describe scrolling capture of an entire webpage, so use a browser full-page feature for content extending below the screen.

If you need screenshots through code or an AI agent, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first: one GET request can return a screenshot or PDF, and its clean-shot workflow accepts consent banners and removes known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Its response identifies page verdict and billing status; bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. It also offers an MCP server with screenshot, page-info, and PDF tools for AI agents. See the ScreenshotNeo website and API documentation.
For example, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot of a page:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key and change the URL to the page you want. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for free and get 1,000 screenshots a month with no card.

Common problems and fixes
The Edge full-page option is missing
Feature availability can vary by device, market, and browser version. Confirm that Edge is current and check its available Screenshot controls. If the option remains unavailable, use Firefox’s screenshot tools or an extension whose current listing supports your browser.
Firefox’s screenshot button is not visible
Enable it in Developer Tools settings under toolbox buttons, then reopen or inspect the toolbox. If you prefer not to change toolbox controls, use the Web Console command :screenshot --fullpage.
The screenshot only contains the visible viewport
Choose the browser’s full-page or entire-page capture mode rather than a selected-area or screen capture. Snipping Tool’s documented modes capture screen areas, windows, or the full screen; they do not establish full-page webpage scrolling capture.

An extension’s behavior or availability differs
Extension listings and features can change. Check the current listing for your browser, review its permissions, and treat privacy or local-processing statements as the publisher’s claims unless independently verified.
