DroneShield is the closest direct alternative to Anduril for layered, RF-led counter-UAS operations. Raytheon (RTX) is the stronger choice when a program needs a documented radar-and-effector combination through KuRFS and Coyote, including integration with the U.S. Army’s LIDS architecture. Shield AI is strongest for autonomous EO/IR detection, tracking and ISR, while AeroVironment is an adjacent option built around Switchblade loitering munitions and tactical autonomous aircraft.

None of these companies is shown in the available product material to reproduce Anduril’s complete Lattice-centered, multi-domain stack. The right decision therefore depends on which layer you are replacing: sensing, command software, electronic warfare, kinetic interception, autonomous aircraft or the entire architecture.

At a glance: which Anduril alternative fits your mission?

Company and system Best fit Primary sensing Defeat or mission effect Integration position Important limitation
DroneShield: DroneSentry-X Mk2, DroneSentry-C2, RfPatrol Mk2, DroneGun Mk4 Layered counter-UAS centered on RF detection and electronic warfare RF sensing, AI and sensor fusion Electronic-warfare disruption Fixed, mobile and dismounted configurations Disruption-capable products have U.S. sales and use restrictions outside authorized government channels
Raytheon/RTX: KuRFS and Coyote Radar-led detection paired with kinetic or non-kinetic effectors Ku-band 360-degree radar plus other system sensors Coyote Block 2 kinetic interception; Block 3NK non-kinetic defeat Integrated with the U.S. Army’s LIDS counter-UAS solution Public material does not establish that the full package mirrors Anduril’s software stack
Shield AI: Tracker C-UAS and V-BAT ViDAR Autonomous EO/IR detection, tracking and wide-area ISR EO/IR video, AI and computer vision Detection, discrimination, tracking and ISR rather than a documented complete kinetic-interceptor suite Useful where operators want passive sensing or autonomous airborne search The cited product information does not show an Anduril-equivalent layered defeat portfolio
AeroVironment: Switchblade family Loitering munitions and tactical autonomous aircraft Platform-specific electro-optical and mission sensors Loitering-munition effects Tactical launch and operator-control concepts Adjacent capability, not a like-for-like replacement for Lattice and Anduril’s counter-UAS architecture

Use the table as a screening tool, not as a promise of identical performance. Actual detection range, engagement authority, interoperability, exportability and availability depend on the configured system, country and procurement program.

Lattice command software

Anduril describes Lattice as the software layer that provides integrated, scalable awareness and defense against aerial threats. In a replacement study, this means evaluating the command-and-control layer separately from the sensors and effectors. A rival may match one of those layers without matching the way Lattice connects them.

Anvil interceptor

Anduril describes Anvil as an autonomous, high-speed kinetic interceptor intended to seek and destroy Group 1 and Group 2 drone threats. Those threat groups generally cover small drones, but the exact target set and engagement rules are determined by the program’s configuration and authorities.

Roadrunner and Roadrunner-M

Roadrunner is described as a modular autonomous air vehicle. Roadrunner-M can be controlled by Lattice or integrated with existing radars, sensors and air-defense architectures. That compatibility is important when comparing alternatives: a system can compete with a specific Roadrunner function without replacing the wider software, sensing and effectors around it.

Documented procurement context

Anduril announced a $200 million U.S. Marine Corps MADIS counter-UAS contract on November 19, 2024. Its counter-UAS material also places Anvil in its Counter-UAS Effectors Suite for Group 1 and Group 2 threats. The contract amount is a program announcement, not a universal unit price or a forecast of what another country would pay.

DroneShield: the closest direct layered counter-UAS substitute

DroneShield is the most direct alternative when the requirement starts with radio-frequency detection and electronic-warfare defeat. Its portfolio combines RF sensing, AI, sensor fusion and electronic warfare across fixed, mobile and dismounted products.

What the portfolio includes

  • DroneSentry-X Mk2: a fixed or mobile counter-UAS component for RF-led detection and defeat architectures.
  • DroneSentry-C2: command-and-control software for coordinating counter-drone functions.
  • RfPatrol Mk2: a dismounted RF detection and awareness device.
  • DroneGun Mk4: a dismounted electronic-warfare product intended to disrupt drone links.

The combination is relevant to buyers who want a layered deployment: a site or vehicle can use networked sensors and C2, while personnel receive a portable detection or disruption tool. It is not automatically equivalent to Lattice; the procurement team must verify interfaces, track sharing, rules for employment and how third-party radars or effectors are connected.

Where DroneShield fits best

Choose DroneShield when the operating problem is dominated by commercial or improvised drones that emit controllable radio links, and when non-kinetic defeat is preferred for repeat engagements, urban sites or infrastructure protection. RF sensing can provide an early warning and identification layer without requiring a radar at every position, while electronic warfare can avoid consuming a physical interceptor for each engagement.

Limits and legal checks

DroneShield reports more than 4,500 devices delivered and service to more than 34 government agencies. Those figures are company-reported and should be validated against the specific model, configuration and customer reference relevant to a procurement.

DroneShield states that disruption-capable products have U.S. sales and use restrictions except through authorized government channels. Buyers outside the United States must also verify import, export, spectrum, use-of-force and local licensing requirements. A product being listed publicly does not establish that it can be purchased or operated in every country.

Raytheon (RTX): a radar-plus-effector alternative

Raytheon’s Coyote and KuRFS pairing is the strongest documented alternative for organizations that want a dedicated radar, a recognized command architecture and both kinetic and non-kinetic defeat options.

KuRFS radar

RTX describes the Ku-band Radio Frequency Sensor, or KuRFS, as a 360-degree radar for persistent detection, identification and tracking. KuRFS is integrated with Coyote in the U.S. Army’s Low, Slow, Small Integrated Defeat System (LIDS) counter-UAS solution. That Army integration is significant evidence of an operational architecture, although it does not by itself prove that every LIDS configuration is available to every international customer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Coyote effectors

The Coyote family includes a kinetic Block 2 variant and a non-kinetic Block 3NK variant.

  • Coyote Block 2: a kinetic interceptor for defeating unmanned aircraft.
  • Coyote Block 3NK: a non-kinetic variant that RTX says can loiter, defeat swarms and be recalled for additional engagements.

RTX describes Coyote as a rail-launched missile variant with a boost rocket motor and turbine engine for high-speed counter-UAS missions. “Low-cost” is the manufacturer’s positioning; no neutral, comparable public price is established here. A buyer should request the delivered price, launcher, fire-control, reload and support costs as a complete system rather than comparing an interceptor price alone.

Why choose Raytheon

Raytheon is a logical choice when the threat set includes targets that RF-only systems may not detect reliably, when persistent radar tracking is required, or when the customer needs a choice between kinetic and non-kinetic effects. The architecture also gives a program a clear path to evaluate sensor coverage, engagement capacity and reload logistics.

The trade-off is complexity. Radar siting, electromagnetic compatibility, power, vehicle integration, ammunition storage and fire-control approvals can make a radar-and-effector battery more demanding than a portable electronic-warfare team. The procurement case should compare the whole deployed unit, not just the advertised effector.

Shield AI: autonomous EO/IR sensing and ISR

Shield AI is the strongest fit when the priority is autonomous sensing, computer-vision tracking and airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance rather than a documented, complete kinetic counter-UAS stack.

Tracker C-UAS

Shield AI says Tracker C-UAS uses proprietary AI and computer vision to detect, discriminate and track small drones in EO/IR video. It is designed to provide early warning without radar or RF emissions. That passive-sensing approach can be valuable around sites where radar emissions are undesirable or where the operator wants another sensing modality to complement RF and radar.

“Without radar or RF emissions” describes the sensing method; it does not mean the surrounding platform, communications link or installation is undetectable. A system-of-systems assessment should examine all emissions and the conditions under which computer vision maintains track quality, including weather, lighting, clutter and target presentation.

V-BAT ViDAR

V-BAT ViDAR combines the V-BAT aircraft with ViDAR software and an EO sensor suite for wide-area search and long-endurance ISR. It can extend the sensing layer beyond a fixed site and support autonomous airborne search, but the available product description does not establish a kinetic interceptor equivalent to Anvil or Coyote.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When Shield AI is the right alternative

Consider Shield AI when the immediate gap is finding and classifying small aircraft, reducing operator workload, or maintaining a persistent airborne search pattern. If the requirement also includes defeat, the solicitation should specify how Tracker or V-BAT data will hand off tracks to an electronic-warfare system, radar, interceptor or other effector. Treat that handoff as an integration task, not an assumed feature.

AeroVironment: an adjacent option through Switchblade

AeroVironment’s Switchblade family is relevant to autonomous defense discussions because it provides loitering munitions and tactical autonomous aircraft. It is not a like-for-like replacement for Lattice, Anvil, Roadrunner or a complete counter-UAS command stack.

How to compare Switchblade with Anduril

Compare the systems on payload, endurance, launch concept, autonomy, operator control and integration. A loitering munition is an effect delivered by an expendable or mission-specific aircraft; a counter-UAS architecture is a broader chain of detection, tracking, authorization, engagement and battle management. The same organization may use both, but they answer different procurement questions.

Where AeroVironment makes sense

Switchblade is an adjacent choice when the mission needs a tactical autonomous aircraft that can search or deliver a loitering-munition effect. It may complement a counter-drone network by providing an available airborne response, but the buyer must define how targets are assigned, how positive identification is achieved and how human operators retain engagement authority.

The matrix shows why “best” has no single answer. DroneShield leads on a portable RF-and-electronic-warfare concept; Raytheon leads on the documented radar-and-effector route; Shield AI leads on passive autonomous sensing; AeroVironment addresses a different tactical effect.

Which system is most suitable for drone swarms?

Swarms are a system problem, not a single-product label. The buyer must examine whether the architecture can maintain enough tracks, allocate effects, reload or recover between engagements, and keep an operator in control as the number of targets rises.

For RF-coordinated swarms

DroneShield is the most natural first evaluation when the swarm uses detectable radio links and electronic warfare can disrupt those links. Confirm how the system behaves when drones use autonomous routes, frequency changes, encrypted links or limited emissions; the product descriptions alone do not establish performance against every such case.

For radar-tracked mass attacks

Raytheon’s KuRFS and Coyote combination offers the clearest documented radar-plus-effector path. Ask for the track capacity, simultaneous engagement capacity, Coyote Block 2 reload plan and the conditions under which Block 3NK can be recalled or reused. Do not treat the vendor’s statement that Block 3NK can defeat swarms as an independent performance measurement.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For distributed visual search

Shield AI’s EO/IR approach can add another detection layer, especially where radar or RF emissions are undesirable. A swarm evaluation should test target density, visual clutter, weather, night conditions and the handoff from Tracker or V-BAT to an actual defeat system.

For tactical direct action

AeroVironment’s Switchblade family can provide a tactical loitering-munition response, but each launch consumes a mission asset and requires its own authorization, logistics and target-identification process. It should be compared with interceptors and electronic warfare on magazine depth and cost per engagement, not only on autonomy.

How to select an Anduril alternative step by step

  1. Define the layer being replaced. Decide whether the requirement is RF detection, radar, EO/IR tracking, command software, electronic warfare, kinetic interception, non-kinetic defeat, autonomous ISR or a complete integrated stack.
  2. Describe the threat set. Record drone size groups, speeds, altitude, control links, autonomy, expected numbers, clutter and whether the threat includes swarms. Avoid using “counter-drone” as a substitute for measurable target classes.
  3. Set the deployment concept. Specify fixed site, vehicle, dismounted, maritime or airborne use; available power; crew size; communications; weather; mobility; and the time allowed to establish a track.
  4. Set human-control rules. Define who may classify a target, approve an engagement, abort it and review the event. Ask vendors to map autonomous search, track and engagement functions to those authorities.
  5. Require an interface plan. Request documented data formats, track exchange, sensor cueing, external-effector control, time synchronization, cybersecurity boundaries and failure behavior. “Open architecture” is not sufficient without an interface list and test plan.
  6. Test layered operation. Demonstrate how RF, radar and EO/IR tracks are correlated, how duplicate tracks are removed, how an effect is selected and how operators recover when one sensor or communications path fails.
  7. Model the magazine and sustainment. Compare electronic-warfare availability, interceptor reloads, non-kinetic reuse, loitering-munition inventories, spares, training, batteries, launchers and maintenance.
  8. Verify procurement eligibility. Check export approvals, spectrum permissions, weapons regulations, end-user requirements, classified-performance restrictions, delivery schedules and local support in the intended country.
  9. Run an operational acceptance test. Use representative drones and realistic weather, clutter, communications loss and target density. Record probability of detection, track continuity, false alarms, time to effect, operator workload and recovery after failure.

Costs, availability and procurement cautions

Comparable public prices were not found for these systems. A meaningful business case must include the complete deployed capability: sensors, C2 software, vehicles or aircraft, launchers, effectors, reloads, spares, training, integration, cybersecurity, support and infrastructure.

Cost behavior differs by defeat method. Electronic warfare may avoid consuming an interceptor but can be constrained by spectrum, target emissions and legal authority. Kinetic systems require magazines and reload logistics. Non-kinetic effectors may change the cost and reuse profile, while loitering munitions consume an aircraft for each mission. These are planning distinctions, not public price claims.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Availability is equally country-specific. A public product page or a U.S. contract announcement does not establish export approval, delivery timing or operational authorization for another customer. Obtain a written country-specific offer and confirm whether quoted performance is an unclassified specification, a demonstration result or a protected program characteristic.

Common evaluation mistakes

  • Replacing a stack with a component: buying a sensor or interceptor does not recreate Lattice-style command, data fusion and effect management.
  • Comparing unlike effects: an RF jammer, radar-guided interceptor, EO/IR tracker and loitering munition solve different parts of the engagement chain.
  • Accepting “autonomous” without boundaries: ask exactly which functions are automated and where human authorization remains mandatory.
  • Treating vendor claims as independent tests: delivered-unit counts, “combat-proven” language and swarm claims should be attributed to the vendor and checked against program evidence.
  • Ignoring emissions and spectrum: RF, radar, datalink and navigation emissions affect detectability, licensing and deconfliction.
  • Ignoring reload burden: a low-cost or reusable effect can still require expensive launchers, trained crews, power and maintenance.
  • Assuming interoperability: require a live demonstration with the customer’s existing radar, C2 and effector interfaces.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a single drop-in replacement for Anduril?

No single alternative in the available product descriptions is shown to reproduce Anduril’s complete Lattice-centered, multi-domain combination of software, sensors and effectors. Select by the layer you need, or plan a multi-vendor integration program.

Can DroneShield and Raytheon systems be used together?

They can be evaluated as complementary layers, but compatibility is not automatic. The program must verify track formats, timing, command authority, cybersecurity and whether the electronic-warfare and radar systems can share data without harmful interference.

Does passive EO/IR sensing eliminate the need for radar or RF detection?

No. EO/IR can add a non-emitting detection layer, while radar and RF sensing address different target signatures and conditions. A resilient architecture normally tests how the modalities cover one another’s blind spots.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why are there no reliable prices in this comparison?

Public, comparable prices were not established for the systems listed. Contract totals, such as Anduril’s announced $200 million Marine Corps MADIS award, are program amounts rather than universal unit prices. Request a country- and configuration-specific total-cost proposal.

What should a procurement team ask each vendor first?

Ask for the exact threat set, detection and track conditions, engagement authority, interfaces, test evidence, sustainment concept, export status, delivery schedule and complete lifecycle cost. Those answers reveal whether the product replaces a layer or an entire architecture.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
