A snug running belt or waist pack is the most direct hands-free alternative to an armband for carrying a Galaxy S6. If you already own running shorts or tights with a secure, correctly sized pocket, they can avoid a separate accessory. Choose a hydration vest when you also need to carry water or other gear; for a short run and phone alone, it is usually more than you need.
Check the fit with your actual phone and case before buying or running. The standard Galaxy S6 measures 143.4 × 70.5 × 6.8 mm and weighs 138 g according to Samsung Mobile Press specifications. Those figures help you compare dimensions, but do not guarantee that a particular pocket or holder will fit.

Runner’s World frames the basic need as keeping the phone “on you, but out of the way” for tracking, music, or safety. Its guide includes waistbands and handheld holders; ASICS also describes belts or waistpacks, secure-pocket shorts or tights, and vests with front pockets for longer sessions. These are category-level suggestions, not confirmed fits for a Galaxy S6.

Use the standard model’s 143.4 × 70.5 × 6.8 mm dimensions as a starting point, then measure the phone with its case on. Samsung’s US Cellular Galaxy S6 support page shows variant-specific figures in its model table, so identify your handset if you are relying on carrier-specific specifications.

- Compare the full cased phone with both the holder’s interior dimensions and the opening. A pocket that is long enough internally may still be too narrow to insert the phone.
- Check that the closure fully shuts around the phone and that the device cannot slide or bounce out during your intended movement.
- Consider access: if you need to change music or check a screen, make sure the design lets you retrieve the phone without an awkward stop.
No generic belt, apparel pocket, or vest can be assumed to fit every Galaxy S6, especially with a case. Verify the specific product’s measurements rather than relying on its general label as a running phone holder.
Running belt or waist pack: the closest replacement
A close-fitting belt keeps the phone on your body without strapping it to your arm, and many waistbands can also carry keys, cards, and other small items. Runner’s World notes the trade-off: a waistband may feel heavier and can bounce. For a Galaxy S6, prioritize a snug fit, secure closure, and a pocket sized for the cased phone; try the belt while moving if possible.

Secure-pocket shorts or tights: no extra holder
If you already have running clothes with a suitable pocket, that may be the simplest way to carry your phone. ASICS lists secure pockets in running shorts or tights as an option. However, pocket shape, depth, stretch, and location differ by garment, so check the particular pocket with the phone and case before relying on it for a run.

Hydration vest: choose it for the rest of your load
A vest makes sense for longer or trail runs when you need water, food, or room for other gear as well as a phone. ASICS describes front pockets on vests for longer sessions. If the Galaxy S6 is the only thing you need to carry on an ordinary short run, a belt or suitable clothing pocket is a more direct solution.
Handheld holder: accessible, but not hands-free
A handheld phone holder keeps the device easy to reach and may suit runners who want to check phone data. Runner’s World includes it among phone-carry styles. The compromise is straightforward: it occupies a hand, so it may not suit someone seeking a fully hands-free alternative.

If you still prefer arm carry
Although it is not an alternative, the Armpocket Racer Plus product page explicitly lists Galaxy S6 compatibility and specifies that the phone must be used without a case. Treat that as a product-specific compatibility reference, not a fit guarantee for other armbands or for a cased phone.
