For most larger living rooms, the Sony BRAVIA 9 II is the best all-round alternative to a 75-inch TCL QLED. Choose the Samsung QN90F if daytime glare and sports are your priorities, the Hisense U8QG if you want to spend less, or a 77-inch LG G6/C6 OLED if film-quality black levels matter more than peak brightness. If your main seats are about 2.8–4.0 metres from the screen, an 85-inch model is usually the sensible step up. A 98-inch or larger TV can be spectacular, but only after checking wall width, viewing angles, reflections, delivery access and mounting requirements.

Which TV should replace a 75-inch TCL QLED?

The right replacement depends less on the TCL badge than on three measurements: your seating distance, the amount of daylight hitting the screen and whether you value brightness or black-level accuracy. A 75-inch QLED already provides a large image; moving to a larger panel improves immersion, but it also raises the cost, wall load and installation risk.

Best for Recommended alternative Why it fits
Best overall mini-LED upgrade Sony BRAVIA 9 II (75-inch) Strong HDR impact, sophisticated local dimming and processing without switching to OLED.
Bright rooms and sports Samsung QN90F (75-inch) Very high brightness and anti-reflection treatment make daytime viewing easier.
Lower-cost large-screen value Hisense U8QG (75-inch) 4K 165Hz, FreeSync Premium Pro, Dolby Vision gaming and a quoted 9.9 ms input lag.
Dark-room movies LG G6/C6 OLED (77-inch class) Self-emissive pixels deliver near-perfect blacks and cinematic contrast.
Maximum screen size 85-inch, 98-inch or 115-inch mini-LED Better scale at longer distances, provided the room and delivery route can accommodate it.

Choose the screen size from your seating distance

Screen size should follow the distance from your eyes to the panel, not the size of the wall alone. TCL’s room-fit guidance gives these starting ranges:

Screen size TCL’s approximate comfortable range Practical interpretation
75 inches About 2.5–3.5 m Good for a typical large lounge, especially when seats are closer than 3 m.
85 inches About 2.8–4.0 m The most useful upgrade when the main seating is around 3–4 m away.
98 inches About 3.2–4.8 m Immersive at long distances, but physically demanding to deliver and mount.
115 inches About 4.0–6.0 m A specialist, cinema-scale option for very large rooms.

Samsung’s 2026 75-inch TV FAQ lists 2.3 m (7.5 ft) as the optimal viewing distance for a 75-inch-class set. That shorter figure is not a contradiction: manufacturers use different assumptions about field of view, content and eyesight. Treat both figures as starting points, then account for your own vision, seating layout and the amount of 4K content you watch.

When an 85-inch TV is the safer upgrade

Choose 85 inches when your main seating is roughly 2.8–4.0 m away and you want a visibly larger image without the logistical problems of a near-100-inch panel. It is also a better fit when a 98-inch screen would overlap doors, light switches, built-ins or artwork.

When 98 inches or more makes sense

A 98-inch or 115-inch screen suits a long room in which the front row sits beyond roughly 3.2 m. Measure the complete route from the delivery door, including stairwells, lifts, corridors and tight turns. The carton can be harder to manoeuvre than the installed TV, and the finished panel may crowd nearby doors or cabinetry. TCL specifically warns that 98-inch and 115-inch sets can create these conflicts and says professional setup becomes sensible at this scale.

Best premium mini-LED alternative: Sony BRAVIA 9 II

The Sony BRAVIA 9 II is the strongest all-round choice for a buyer who wants a high-end LCD experience rather than an OLED. RTINGS describes it as the best RGB Mini LED TV in its category and a strong option for people who do not want a flagship OLED.

Why it is a compelling 75-inch replacement

  • HDR impact: Mini-LED backlighting can produce intense highlights while retaining the punch that large-room viewing often needs.
  • Local dimming: A sophisticated dimming system helps separate bright objects from darker areas, improving perceived contrast over basic edge-lit LCDs.
  • Processing: Sony’s processing is a major reason to choose it when you watch broadcast television, streaming content of mixed quality or older films as well as native 4K.
  • Format flexibility: It avoids the central OLED trade-off of sacrificing peak full-screen brightness for perfect pixel-level blacks.

It is not the automatic winner for every room. OLED still produces cleaner blacks in a dark cinema, and a bright-room Samsung may reduce reflections more effectively. Compare the Sony on HDR performance, local-dimming behaviour, processing, gaming features and the current local price rather than assuming that the most expensive panel is best.

Best for glare and daytime sports: Samsung QN90F

Samsung’s QN90F is the most appropriate alternative when the television is used during the day, especially for football, racing and other sports with bright, fast-moving images. TechRadar names it the best 75-inch TV for bright rooms because of its high brightness and anti-reflection screen.

  • Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
  • Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
  • Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

What makes it different

  • Brightness: A bright picture remains easier to follow when sunlight or room lighting raises the black level of the room.
  • Anti-reflection treatment: The screen can suppress distracting reflections more effectively than a conventional glossy panel.
  • Motion-friendly presentation: Sports benefit from a bright, clean image and a large 75-inch canvas without requiring a jump to 98 inches.

The important compromise is HDR format support. Samsung’s HDR coverage is narrower than that of Dolby Vision competitors, so check the formats supported by your streaming services and discs before buying. If you mostly watch HDR10 content, that limitation may not matter; if Dolby Vision is central to your library, compare alternatives carefully.

Best value alternative: Hisense U8QG

The Hisense U8QG is the mid-range choice for buyers who want premium-looking specifications without paying flagship prices. TechRadar lists the 75-inch model at $1,399 / £1,699 / AU$2,999 in its 2026 guide. Those are guide-listed prices for the named markets, not a permanent worldwide price, so verify the current retailer listing.

Key specifications and trade-offs

Feature Hisense U8QG detail Why it matters
Resolution and refresh 4K at up to 165Hz Useful for high-frame-rate PC gaming and fluid console play.
Gaming features FreeSync Premium Pro and Dolby Vision gaming Supports variable-refresh play and Dolby Vision-compatible game output.
Input lag 9.9 ms, as quoted by TechRadar Low enough for responsive gaming; the test conditions behind any measured figure still matter.
HDMI inputs Three Potentially limiting if you connect multiple consoles, a PC, a soundbar and a disc player.

Three HDMI ports are the main practical warning. Count every device before buying, and check which inputs carry the required high-bandwidth features. If you need around four HDMI 2.1 connections, another model may be easier to live with even if its panel costs more.

Best for dark-room movies: LG G6/C6 OLED

Choose the 77-inch-class LG G6 or C6 OLED when your priority is cinematic contrast in a controlled or dim room. OLED pixels are self-emissive: each pixel can turn off independently, producing near-perfect blacks without the blooming that can appear around bright objects on an LCD.

OLED’s advantages

  • Dark scenes retain depth because black pixels emit no light.
  • Subtitles and stars on a black background look exceptionally precise.
  • Wide viewing angles preserve contrast when viewers sit away from the centre.
  • A 77-inch panel gives a modest size increase over 75 inches without the delivery complexity of a 98-inch screen.

Brightness is the deciding caveat

OLED is not automatically superior in a sunlit lounge. RTINGS says LG has better image processing than Samsung’s S95H, while Samsung is more colourful and better suited to bright rooms. Use that comparison as a decision axis: LG’s contrast and processing favour film watching at night, while a high-brightness mini-LED remains easier to see through strong daylight and reflections.

TCL series 75-inch starting price Published series maximum brightness Qualification
QM7L $899.99 Up to 3,000 nits Starting price and series maximum listed by TCL North America in 2026; brightness varies by size.
QM8L $1,299.99 Up to 6,000 nits Series maximum, not a guaranteed measurement for every panel size.
X11L $2,999.99 Up to 10,000 nits Premium tier; the stated maximum varies by size and configuration.

These figures help establish the price ladder, but they do not make the sets interchangeable. Compare actual size, local-dimming behaviour, anti-reflection performance, HDR format support, gaming inputs and warranty in your market.

Mini-LED versus OLED for a large room

Consideration Mini-LED LCD OLED
Bright-room visibility Generally stronger, particularly with an anti-reflection screen. Can look less forceful when daylight dominates.
Black level Very good, but local dimming can produce some blooming. Near-perfect because each pixel switches off independently.
Large bright scenes Usually maintains a powerful full-screen image. Brightness behaviour depends on model and scene.
Viewing angle Varies by panel and filter. Typically consistent across wider seating positions.
Best match Daytime viewing, sports, mixed content and glare-prone rooms. Night-time films and dedicated cinema spaces.

Gaming requirements for an 85-inch or larger TV

For consoles and gaming PCs, look for a 120Hz-or-higher panel, variable refresh rate (VRR), automatic low-latency mode (ALLM) and enough HDMI 2.1 ports for the equipment you actually own. Four HDMI 2.1 ports are particularly useful when several consoles, a gaming PC and an eARC soundbar must remain connected. Do not infer port count from screen size; check the exact model specification.

  1. List every source: consoles, PC, streaming box, disc player and soundbar.
  2. Mark which sources need 4K at 120Hz or higher, VRR or Dolby Vision.
  3. Check the TV’s port bandwidth and whether eARC shares a port with a gaming input.
  4. Leave one accessible input for a future device if the layout allows.

Measure before ordering a 98-inch or 115-inch TV

  1. Measure the wall: Record usable width and height, including skirting boards, shelves, windows, switches and artwork.
  2. Check sightlines: Confirm that every main seat can see the screen without a pillar, cabinet or open door blocking it.
  3. Measure the delivery route: Check the front door, corridors, stair turns, lift dimensions and the final approach to the wall.
  4. Confirm the mount: Use a heavy-duty VESA-compatible mount rated for the TV’s weight and dimensions; locate studs or use an appropriate structural fixing.
  5. Plan power and signals: Position mains power, HDMI cables and the eARC connection before the panel is lifted into place.
  6. Book help when appropriate: At 98 inches and especially 115 inches, professional delivery and installation can prevent damage to the panel, wall and surrounding furniture.

A large display can fit on paper yet fail in practice because the carton cannot turn through a hallway or because the screen covers a light switch. Treat access and mounting as purchase requirements, not afterthoughts.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Sound and installation accessories

The larger the picture, the more obvious weak built-in audio can become. A compatible Samsung soundbar can work with the TV through Q-Symphony, which coordinates the television and soundbar speakers for a more immersive presentation. An HDMI eARC soundbar with Dolby Atmos support is a sensible pairing for any of these large-screen options, provided the TV and soundbar both support the formats you plan to use.

For wall mounting, choose a heavy-duty VESA mount matched to the exact model’s hole pattern and weight. A mount that is adequate for a 75-inch panel is not automatically adequate for a 98-inch or 115-inch one.

A practical buying decision

  1. Measure your eye-to-screen distance. If it falls around 2.8–4.0 m, start with 85 inches; if it is closer to 2.5–3.5 m, a high-quality 75-inch model may already be the right scale.
  2. Classify the room. Choose anti-reflection mini-LED for strong daylight, OLED for controlled lighting, and a balanced mini-LED for mixed use.
  3. Set the size ceiling. Consider 98 inches only after wall and route measurements; reserve 115 inches for rooms with roughly 4.0–6.0 m viewing distances.
  4. Match the model to your content. Pick Sony for processing and HDR balance, Samsung for glare and sports, Hisense for value and gaming specifications, or LG OLED for dark-room films.
  5. Audit connections and installation. Count HDMI devices, verify HDMI 2.1 and HDR needs, select a rated mount and decide whether professional setup is warranted.
  6. Verify the local listing. Check the exact suffix, panel size, current price, stock, warranty and regional feature set before payment.
