The LG UltraGear 27GR83Q-B is the best mainstream value choice for an affordable 1440p 240Hz gaming monitor. It combines a 27-inch 2560×1440 IPS panel, 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms GtG response time, HDR400 certification, adaptive sync for both major GPU platforms, HDMI 2.1, and an adjustable stand. TechSpot listed it at $270 on Amazon in a May 29, 2025 buying guide, although retail prices and stock change constantly.

For the lowest possible purchase price, the KTC H27E6S is a strong alternative when it is available in your region. If you want OLED contrast and near-instantaneous pixel response, the Gigabyte AORUS FO27Q2 is a premium upgrade rather than a budget model. The right choice depends on whether you value price, bright-room performance, HDR impact, text clarity, console connectivity, or OLED image quality.

Why choose 1440p at 240Hz?

2560×1440 is a useful middle ground between 1080p and 4K. At a typical 27-inch size it provides a visibly sharper desktop and game image than 1080p without requiring the same rendering load as 3840×2160. A 240Hz refresh rate can make camera movement, tracking and fast competitive play look smoother than 144Hz or 165Hz, but only when your system is actually delivering high frame rates.

There is no universal graphics-card requirement for 1440p at 240Hz. Performance depends on the game engine, resolution scaling, quality settings, ray tracing, CPU, GPU and whether you are playing a competitive title or a demanding single-player release. Treat 240Hz as available headroom, not a promise that every game will run at 240 frames per second.

LG UltraGear 27GR83Q-B: the safest value recommendation

What you get

LG’s 27GR83Q-B uses a 27-inch QHD IPS panel with a 240Hz refresh rate and a stated 1ms GtG response time. LG lists VESA DisplayHDR 400, NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible operation and AMD FreeSync Premium support. HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort and USB connectivity make it practical for a gaming PC and modern console, while the height-adjustable and pivot-capable stand is more flexible than a fixed budget stand.

Why it leads the affordable list

TechSpot categorized this model as a budget 1440p high-refresh monitor and recorded an Amazon price of $270 on May 29, 2025. That price explains its value reputation, but it is a historical snapshot rather than a permanent MSRP or a guarantee of current availability. When the LG is close to that level in your market, its combination of speed, ports, adaptive sync and ergonomics is unusually complete.

What to check before buying

  • Confirm that the listing is the 27GR83Q-B, not a visually similar model with a different refresh rate or port selection.
  • Check the included stand and warranty terms for your country.
  • Use a certified DisplayPort or HDMI cable capable of the desired resolution and refresh rate.
  • Verify that your graphics card and game settings can exploit 240Hz; otherwise, a cheaper 165Hz display may deliver better value.

KTC H27E6S: a lower-cost alternative when available

DisplayNinja’s guide, updated October 17, 2026, describes the KTC H27E6S as an excellent-value affordable 27-inch 1440p 240Hz monitor. It is therefore worth checking when the LG is unavailable or priced substantially higher in your country. The cited information does not establish one universal current price, so do not rely on a US or historical figure; inspect the local retailer listing, shipping cost, warranty provider and return policy.

DisplayNinja also identifies the smaller Sansui ES-G25F6Q Pro as an alternative for shoppers who prefer a smaller screen. A 25-inch display can suit a compact desk or a shorter viewing distance, but compare its exact panel, ports, stand and warranty with the 27-inch options rather than assuming the specifications are identical.

OLED upgrades: when the premium is justified

Gigabyte AORUS FO27Q2

The AORUS FO27Q2 uses a 27-inch 1440p QD-OLED panel with a 240Hz refresh rate and a stated 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time. Gigabyte lists 99% DCI-P3 coverage, a built-in KVM switch and AI-based OLED Care features. Its premium three-year warranty includes panel burn-in coverage under terms that vary by region, so read the local warranty document rather than assuming every market offers identical protection.

QD-OLED’s individually emissive pixels can produce far deeper blacks and stronger contrast than an IPS panel, with exceptionally fast transitions. Those advantages are most visible in dark games, films and a dim or controlled room. The trade-offs are a higher purchase price, the need to use OLED-care functions, potential burn-in over long periods of static content, and brightness behavior that differs between models.

Other 240Hz OLED price points

TechSpot’s OLED roundup cited recent prices of about $350 for the Dell Alienware AW2726DM, Gigabyte GO27Q24A and MSI MAG 271QPX E2, and about $400 for the Asus ROG Strix XG27AQDMES. These were dated snapshots, so use them only as rough comparison points. Promotions, regional taxes, stock and model revisions can move the actual price significantly.

IPS versus QD-OLED or WOLED

Consideration IPS, such as the LG 27GR83Q-B OLED, such as the AORUS FO27Q2
Contrast Good general-purpose contrast, but blacks can appear gray in a dark room Per-pixel lighting gives much deeper blacks and stronger perceived contrast
Motion Fast enough for competitive gaming when overdrive is tuned correctly; the LG is rated at 1ms GtG Extremely fast pixel transitions; the FO27Q2 is rated at 0.03ms GtG
HDR HDR400 support is useful, but certification alone does not imply dramatic highlights or sophisticated local dimming Higher contrast makes HDR more impactful, but brightness depends on the specific OLED implementation
Static desktop use Generally easier for long sessions with fixed windows, menus and taskbars Requires pixel-care features and sensible habits to reduce burn-in risk
Text and productivity Usually the less complicated choice for dense text and office work Text rendering and brightness behavior vary by panel layout and firmware; inspect a return policy if productivity is important
Price Usually the affordable route, especially during IPS promotions Premium pricing, although sales can narrow the gap
Warranty Standard monitor coverage; terms depend on the manufacturer and region Some models include explicit burn-in coverage, such as the FO27Q2’s premium regional warranty

Choose IPS if you want predictable brightness, lower cost, frequent desktop use or minimal maintenance. Choose OLED if dark-room contrast, cinematic HDR and the fastest possible response matter more than price and static-content precautions.

Brightness tiers matter on 240Hz OLED monitors

Not every 240Hz QD-OLED monitor has the same HDR output. TechSpot’s roundup distinguishes full-brightness and limited-brightness implementations. Full-brightness examples are typically rated around 250 nits in SDR and 1,000 nits peak HDR, while limited-brightness versions are around 200 nits SDR and 400 nits HDR.

These figures describe panel categories, not a guarantee for every model or picture mode. A monitor with a 1,000-nit peak can still restrict the size or duration of bright highlights, and a 400-nit model may look less dramatic in a sunlit room. Look for independent measurements of sustained brightness, HDR tone mapping and local-dimming behavior when those details are important to you.

Ports, adaptive sync and console use

HDMI 2.1

HDMI 2.1 is useful for connecting newer consoles and for high-bandwidth PC modes, but its presence does not by itself guarantee every resolution-and-refresh combination. Check the monitor’s manual for the supported HDMI timing, variable-refresh range and whether features such as HDR operate simultaneously at the desired setting.

DisplayPort and adaptive sync

DisplayPort is commonly the easiest PC connection for 1440p at 240Hz. Enable the monitor’s adaptive-sync option, then configure the matching feature in your GPU control panel. The LG 27GR83Q-B is listed as compatible with both NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync technologies, which reduces the need to match one brand of graphics card to the display.

KVM and USB

The AORUS FO27Q2 includes a KVM switch, allowing one keyboard and mouse set to move between compatible computers through the monitor. The LG provides USB connectivity, but a USB hub is not the same as a full KVM implementation; check the rear-port layout and upstream connection before planning a two-computer desk.

How to choose the right model for your setup

Pick the LG when balance matters

Buy the LG when its local price is near the historical budget range, you want an adjustable stand, and you prefer IPS’s simpler behavior for mixed gaming and work. It is the least-compromising choice for a first 1440p 240Hz display.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pick the KTC when purchase cost dominates

Consider the KTC H27E6S when it is clearly cheaper than the LG and the seller offers a dependable return window and local warranty service. The saving is only worthwhile if dead-pixel, firmware and replacement support are acceptable.

Pick OLED for contrast and response

Choose the AORUS FO27Q2 or another 240Hz OLED when you play in a darker room, care about black levels and HDR impact, and can follow pixel-care guidance. Confirm regional burn-in coverage in writing before purchase.

Consider a smaller display for a compact desk

A 25-inch alternative can make sense when a 27-inch screen is too large for your viewing distance. Compare pixel density, stand adjustment and port support; screen size alone does not establish image quality.

Setup checklist for 1440p at 240Hz

  1. Connect the monitor with DisplayPort or a suitable HDMI 2.1 cable, depending on your computer or console.
  2. Open your operating system’s display settings and select 2560×1440.
  3. Set the refresh rate to 240Hz. If 240Hz is missing, check the cable, GPU driver, input selection and monitor’s on-screen menu.
  4. Enable adaptive sync in the monitor menu, then enable the corresponding variable-refresh option in your GPU software.
  5. Use a frame-rate cap when practical so the GPU stays within the adaptive-sync range and produces steadier frame pacing.
  6. For HDR, enable it in the operating system and game only when the monitor’s HDR mode improves the image; HDR400 IPS displays and OLED displays can produce very different results.
  7. On OLED, leave automatic pixel-care, compensation and screen-protection functions enabled. Do not disable them to avoid a short maintenance cycle.

Common problems and fixes

The monitor will not run at 240Hz

Confirm the active input, use the cable supplied or a certified replacement, update the graphics driver, and select 240Hz manually in display settings. Some docks, adapters and older receivers limit bandwidth even when the monitor itself supports 240Hz.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The image looks washed out in HDR

HDR400 certification does not guarantee high peak brightness or local dimming. Compare SDR and HDR in the same game, calibrate the operating system’s HDR slider, and disable HDR for content that is mastered poorly. OLED models may look more convincing because of contrast even when their sustained brightness is modest.

Motion looks blurry despite 240Hz

Check that the game is producing high frame rates, disable excessive motion blur, and use a moderate overdrive setting. Extreme overdrive can create bright inverse-ghosting trails. OLED transitions are generally faster, but frame rate, persistence and game settings still affect perceived clarity.

There is flicker with adaptive sync

Try a different adaptive-sync range, update the monitor firmware if the manufacturer provides one, and test with a frame-rate cap. If flicker appears only in menus or at very low frame rates, it may be a variable-refresh behavior rather than a failed panel.

OLED maintenance interrupts work

Pixel-care cycles are part of OLED ownership. Allow the monitor to complete its automatic compensation cycle when you stop using it, avoid unplugging it immediately after shutdown, and use a screen saver or blank display for long idle periods.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Price and availability reality

The $270 LG figure is a historical Amazon observation from TechSpot’s May 29, 2025 guide, not a permanent global price. The KTC H27E6S was highlighted by DisplayNinja on October 17, 2026, but that cited passage did not provide a universal price. OLED prices around $350 to $400 in TechSpot’s roundup are also dated snapshots. Compare the final checkout price, taxes, shipping, return period and warranty location rather than relying on a headline deal.

Inventory can differ sharply between countries. A monitor that is an excellent value in one market may be unavailable, import-only or covered by a different warranty elsewhere. Search by the full model number and verify the panel type, refresh rate, inputs and stand before paying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 240Hz worth it if my games do not reach 240 frames per second?

It can still provide lower-refresh headroom and smoother operation at intermediate frame rates, but the benefit is smaller when your system consistently runs far below 240 frames per second. Check your actual games before paying a premium for the highest refresh rate.

Can a 1440p 240Hz monitor work with a console?

Yes, if the monitor and console share a supported HDMI mode. Confirm the exact HDMI bandwidth, resolution, refresh-rate and variable-refresh specifications in the monitor manual; HDMI 2.1 branding alone is not a guarantee of every mode.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does HDR400 mean the LG has OLED-level HDR?

No. DisplayHDR 400 confirms a certification level, but it does not provide OLED’s per-pixel black control or guarantee intense specular highlights. OLED contrast and HDR brightness vary by model and implementation.

How do I reduce OLED burn-in risk?

Keep the monitor’s OLED-care functions enabled, use a screen saver or automatic display timeout, vary static desktop content, and allow compensation cycles to complete. Also verify whether your regional warranty explicitly covers panel burn-in.

Should I buy a 27-inch or 25-inch 1440p monitor?

A 27-inch model offers a larger image and is the common size for this category. A 25-inch model can suit a compact desk or shorter viewing distance. Compare the complete specification and stand, not just diagonal size.

The Bottom Line

For most buyers, start with the LG UltraGear 27GR83Q-B and verify its current local price and stock. Choose the KTC H27E6S when it is materially cheaper with acceptable support, and move to the Gigabyte AORUS FO27Q2 or another 240Hz OLED when contrast, HDR impact and pixel response justify the additional cost and maintenance.
