First identify your iPad Pro generation
“13-inch iPad Pro” now covers the M4 and M5 generations. A case or keyboard made for an older 12.9-inch iPad Pro should not be assumed to fit. The newer 13-inch models have a different thinness and accessory fit, and a connector or camera opening that looks close is not proof of compatibility.
Check the model before buying
- Open Settings and go to General > About.
- Record the model name and generation shown for the iPad Pro. You need to distinguish the 13-inch M4 from the 13-inch M5.
- On the accessory listing, look for an explicit statement that it supports iPad Pro 13-inch (M4), iPad Pro 13-inch (M5), or both.
- Do not rely on a listing that only says “iPad Pro” or “12.9-inch.” Ask the seller to confirm the exact model if the generation is not stated.
Apple’s current Magic Keyboard guide identifies compatibility with both 11-inch and 13-inch M4 and M5 iPad Pro models. When to choose something else
It is not the best architecture if you frequently want to hold the iPad as a bare tablet while the keyboard stays on a desk. The keyboard is part of the case, so removing the iPad also removes it from the protected keyboard assembly. Artists and readers who switch repeatedly between a flat drawing surface and typing may prefer a detachable design.
Best detachable keyboard: Logitech Combo Touch

Compare the physical arrangement before buying. A multi-device keyboard prioritizes switching between devices; Combo Touch prioritizes a protective iPad case with a removable keyboard and trackpad. Verify Pencil compatibility at checkout

Choose a multi-device keyboard
Consider Flip Folio when one detachable keyboard must serve multiple devices. Confirm that its case and support arrangement suit your 13-inch iPad Pro rather than assuming every multi-device keyboard provides the same dedicated fit as a keyboard case.
