If you want prerecorded videos to run continuously on YouTube, AWS Elemental MediaPackage is usually the wrong component to replace: it packages and originates a live feed from an upstream encoder; it does not create the continuous YouTube playout by itself. For a cloud service built around prerecorded 24/7 YouTube streams, start with StreamNeo, Gyre, or Upstream. First, identify which MediaPackage job you need to replace
AWS describes Elemental MediaPackage as a just-in-time video packaging and origination service. In its live workflow, an upstream encoder sends an HLS feed to MediaPackage; a player or CDN requests the output, and MediaPackage packages it according to endpoint settings. Upstream: check the current plan limits against your schedule
YouTube lists Upstream as a 24/7 cloud streaming studio. Its service describes uploading videos and running continuous playback in the cloud. The pricing details documented at access time in 2026—one concurrent stream and 24 monthly streaming hours on the free plan, or one 1080p/30fps stream at $30/month on paid monthly billing—are vendor-published and may no longer apply. Check the live plan page before relying on those limits for an always-on channel.

When AWS MediaLive or MediaPackage is still the right choice
Choose MediaLive when the missing job is live encoding
YouTube includes AWS Elemental MediaLive in its verified software encoder list and describes it as broadcast-grade live video processing. In an AWS CloudFront live-delivery architecture, MediaLive encodes a live feed; MediaPackage can follow it when the workflow needs multiple delivery formats. Keep MediaPackage when packaging and origination are required
MediaPackage remains relevant if you need a packaging/origination layer in a wider playback workflow for a player or CDN. Its documented redundancy is at the input/origin layer: it can accept redundant input URLs and switch to the other input if the active one stops. That does not establish end-to-end 24/7 YouTube playout or recovery. AWS also names Wowza and Unified Streaming in CloudFront video workflows, but that reference does not establish them as direct cloud playlist-planning replacements for YouTube.

When a physical encoder makes more sense
AJA HELO Plus: dedicated hardware for hybrid use
AJA HELO Plus is a standalone H.264 streaming and recording appliance with SDI/HDMI I/O. Its optional PlayToStream feature can send prerecorded media to YouTube; AJA describes PlayToStream on one stream output while the other handles a live stream. - Replacing packaging with playout—or vice versa: MediaPackage formats and originates an upstream feed; a continuous prerecorded YouTube channel needs a source and playout process that sends a live stream to YouTube.
