It analyzes audio and video in online content for scam indicators, then warns you in real time. The feature is included with Avast Premium Security and is available through the Avast One version documented in Avast’s support materials.
What is Avast Deepfake Guard?
Deepfake Guard is Avast’s detection layer for scams that use manipulated or synthetic audio and video. It is intended to catch fraudulent content such as impersonation videos, fake endorsements and recordings designed to create urgency or pressure viewers into sending money or sharing information.
Gen’s launch announcement positioned Deepfake Guard alongside Scam Guardian and Scam Guardian Pro. Leena Elias, Gen’s chief product officer, described the danger this way: “The risk comes when scammers use it to create urgency, apply pressure, and take advantage of trust.”
Avast does not publish a controlled accuracy benchmark or guaranteed detection rate for the feature, so an alert should be treated as a strong warning rather than proof that every scam will be identified.

How Deepfake Guard scans a video
Automatic detection
When automatic detection is enabled for a supported site, Deepfake Guard analyzes the playing content and can display a warning while you watch. Avast describes the analysis as real-time and performed on the device.
Manual detection
- Open Avast Scam Guardian Pro.
- Select Deepfake Guard.
- Start a scan.
- Open the video and play it with sound turned on.
- Review the warning and any detection details Avast presents.
Manual scanning is the documented route for platforms outside the automatic-support list. It also gives you a deliberate check before trusting a suspicious clip.

Does Deepfake Guard work on Windows 11?
Windows 11 is the practical baseline in Avast’s launch and support information. Hardware requirements vary with the type of detection and the computer’s specification:
| Windows computer | Documented requirement or limitation |
|---|---|
| Lower-specification Windows 11 PC using manual detection | At least 8 GB RAM and four CPU cores |
| Traditional high-end PC | At least 16 GB RAM and six or more CPU cores |
| Qualcomm ARM device | Currently limited to YouTube in Avast’s support article |
| Supported browser | Use a supported 64-bit browser such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox |
Avast cautions that enabling automatic detection may slow a Windows device. If playback becomes choppy or the system feels overloaded, try manual scans or disable automatic detection when you do not need it.
Which sites and languages does Avast Deepfake Guard support?
The automatic site coverage is YouTube, Facebook, X, TikTok, Vimeo, Instagram, Dailymotion and Twitch. Other websites may be checked through the manual workflow, but they are not documented as automatic integrations.
Avast lists Czech, English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish for video scanning. Availability can also depend on the Avast product edition, browser and hardware architecture; Qualcomm ARM support is currently narrower than support on conventional Windows PCs.

Is Deepfake Guard included with Avast Premium Security or Avast One?
Avast announced Deepfake Guard as included in Avast Premium Security. Avast’s support documentation also describes the feature through the Avast One version that includes Scam Guardian Pro. Check the feature list in your installed edition before assuming that a particular subscription or regional build includes it.
The relevant decision is straightforward:
- Already have Premium Security: look for Deepfake Guard in the installed Avast interface.
- Use Avast One: verify that your edition exposes Scam Guardian Pro and its Deepfake Guard controls.
- Use neither: confirm current product availability and terms directly in Avast before purchasing; the launch materials do not establish a universal price or every regional offer.
Does Avast upload my video?
“On-device” describes where detection operates: Avast says Deepfake Guard analyzes content on the Windows device for speed and privacy. It does not mean that no data is processed for the service.
Avast’s products policy says Deepfake Guard processes audio and video tracks and related metadata, including a video’s title, URL, language and comments, for detection and product or service improvement. The policy lists a 30-day retention period for service provision. It also says malicious material may be retained for as long as needed to provide effective protection, while not being stored in connection with users.
Those statements describe different layers of handling: local analysis is the operating model, while the policy discloses data that may be processed and retained for service purposes. Review the current policy and your product’s settings if minimizing processed metadata is important to you.

How widespread are deepfake scams?
Gen Threat Labs reported 159,378 unique deepfake scams detected in the fourth quarter of 2025 on devices where Gen video-scam detection was active. That is a telemetry count from protected devices, not a count of all scams online.
An Avast blog post attributed a 700% increase in deepfake fraud in the United States during the first months of 2025 to figures from Sumsub, and said 60% of consumers encountered a deepfake in the preceding year. These figures come from the named sources and periods; they should not be read as a measured detection rate for Deepfake Guard.
What to do when Deepfake Guard raises an alert
- Pause before clicking links, calling numbers shown in the video or sending money.
- Verify the person or organization through a separate, trusted channel.
- Check whether the request creates unusual urgency, secrecy or pressure.
- Do not treat a familiar face or voice as authentication; those are precisely the elements a deepfake can imitate.
- Keep the alert details and the video URL if you need to report the content to the platform or authorities.
Who should use it?
Deepfake Guard is most useful if you watch financial, investment, celebrity, customer-support or public-figure videos and already use Avast Premium Security or a qualifying Avast One edition. Automatic scanning offers convenience on the listed sites; manual scanning is more flexible but requires you to start the check and play the video with sound.
Users on older Windows hardware should weigh the possible performance impact, while Qualcomm ARM users should expect the currently documented YouTube-only automatic coverage. In every case, use an alert as a reason to verify independently, not as a substitute for judgment.
