Madrone Capital Partners led the round, which brought Aura’s reported total funding to $650 million. The valuation reflects the price investors assigned to the company in that financing; it is not a measure of how well Aura protects customers.
What Aura announced in its Series F
On October 21, 2021, SecurityWeek reported that Burlington, Massachusetts-based Aura had raised $200 million in a Series F round. The financing put the company’s post-money valuation at $2.5 billion and brought its reported cumulative funding to $650 million. SecurityWeek’s October 21, 2021 report said the company planned to use the money to accelerate growth, including engineering and go-to-market expansion with 200 employees.
Who invested in Aura?
Madrone Capital Partners led the Series F. TenEleven Ventures, General Catalyst, WndrCo, Warburg Pincus, and Accel also participated, according to SecurityWeek. Madrone general partner Jamie McJunkin described the market opportunity this way: “Aura identified that gap in the market and delivered a simple solution to protect users online.”
What Aura’s consumer-security service covered
Aura was described as an all-in-one consumer-security service combining three broad areas of protection:

Those categories describe the scope of the offering reported at the time. They do not, by themselves, establish specific features, supported devices, recovery terms, or present-day plan details.
How large Aura was reported to be
Contemporaneous reports gave different customer counts, so the figures should be kept attributed rather than combined. SecurityWeek reported more than one million customers worldwide and annual revenue above $220 million. Yahoo Finance’s October 2021 coverage reported more than 1.7 million customers and a revenue run rate above $220 million. The revenue descriptions are also distinct: one report characterized the figure as annual revenue, while the other called it a revenue run rate.

Company background
Aura was founded in 2017 under the name iSubscribed and changed its name to Aura in 2019. Its Series F announcement came four years after its founding, as the company positioned a combined identity, fraud, device, and network protection service for consumers.

The $2.5 billion figure was a post-money valuation: the investor pricing point associated with the 2021 financing after the new capital was included. It indicates what investors agreed to value the company at in that round and may reflect expectations about Aura’s growth and the consumer-security market.
