Yes—this Dropbox login email is a phishing scam. Forcepoint X-Labs documented a February 2, 2026 campaign in which a procurement-style message used a PDF attachment, a second PDF on Vercel Blob storage and a fake Dropbox page to collect work email addresses and passwords. The evidence describes credential theft, not a Dropbox breach, a confirmed victim count or confirmed account takeovers.
How the fake Dropbox login campaign worked
The message was made to resemble a business procurement or tender request. Its reported wording included “e-Tender (Operating Unit – Standard P.O requires your acceptance)” and a link labeled “View specification online Here.” Dark Reading described the lure as a request for employees to view a “request order.”
- PDF attachment: The email carried a PDF rather than placing an obvious phishing URL in the message body.
- Embedded click target: Forcepoint’s sample PDF used compressed streams and AcroForm objects for clickable elements. Those are characteristics of this sample, not proof that PDFs or AcroForms are inherently malicious.
- Cloud-hosted second document: Clicking the attachment led to another PDF hosted on Vercel’s public Blob storage. That document displayed an intermediate “Your PDF is ready” prompt telling the reader to “click here.”
- Fake Dropbox site: The final redirect reached the newly registered domain
tovz[.]life, which impersonated Dropbox and had no affiliation with Dropbox.
This layered path used a familiar file type and a legitimate hosting service to make automated scanning and human inspection harder. A clean-looking attachment and a plausible sender address were not reliable evidence that the request was genuine.
What the phishing page stole
The counterfeit page asked for a work email address and password, claiming the credentials were needed to view the order. Forcepoint’s analysis says its script collected the submitted credentials along with the visitor’s IP address, approximate location, date, time and device information, then sent the data to a hardcoded Telegram bot.

After a five-second delay, the page always displayed “Invalid email or password,” even when input had already been transmitted. A login error therefore did not mean the password was safe or that no data had been received.
Neither the email, PDFs nor phishing page delivered conventional malware in the observed chain. The objective was direct credential collection. Stolen Dropbox credentials could potentially enable account takeover, access to shared company material or follow-on fraud, but the public reporting does not confirm any of those outcomes for this campaign.

Why a malware-free PDF can still be dangerous
Security controls often focus on executable attachments, malicious scripts and known bad URLs. This campaign avoided those obvious signals: the first-stage document looked routine, the intermediate file was hosted on a widely used platform, and the final page asked for information rather than installing software. As Forcepoint researcher Hassan Faizan put it, “In short, they chose reliability over complexity.”
The absence of malware is not a safety verdict. If a document asks you to sign in, the risk is the destination and the request for credentials—not whether the file installs a program.

Is every Dropbox PDF login email a scam?
No. A PDF can legitimately contain a link, and Dropbox can be used to share genuine documents. The warning signs in this incident are the unexpected business request, a multi-step redirect, pressure to authenticate before viewing an order, and a sign-in page on a domain unrelated to Dropbox.
Dropbox says its official sites and email use verified domains, including dropbox.com and dropboxmail.com. Do not judge a message solely by its display name or sender address: Dark Reading reported that the campaign’s address could have been spoofed or compromised, and the messages passed checks noted in Forcepoint’s account. SPF, DKIM or DMARC results alone do not prove that a request is legitimate.

What to do if you received the message
- Do not click the link in the email or PDF, and do not enter credentials into the page.
- Open Dropbox by typing its known address yourself or using a saved bookmark. Do not rely on the document’s redirect.
- Confirm the tender, order or shared file with the supposed sender through a phone number, chat channel or other contact method you already trust.
- Forward suspicious email to abuse@dropbox.com and report it to your organization’s security team.
What to do if you entered a password
Act as though the submitted password is compromised, even if the page said “Invalid email or password.”
- Go directly to Dropbox through a typed address or saved bookmark and change the password.
- Review account activity, sharing and connected devices; revoke unfamiliar sessions or devices where the account interface allows it.
- Change the same password anywhere else it was reused. Use a unique, strong password for Dropbox.
- Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA), then report the incident to your organization’s security team and Dropbox.
These are prudent containment steps based on the credential exfiltration described by Forcepoint; they are not a claim that Dropbox published a campaign-specific incident playbook.

Choose a stronger Dropbox sign-in second factor

A physical FIDO2/WebAuthn key is optional, not required. An authenticator app or passkey can provide stronger protection without buying hardware. Check Dropbox’s current help documentation for supported browsers, devices and recovery options before changing your setup.
What security teams should monitor
- Links embedded inside PDF attachments, including AcroForm click targets and compressed document streams.
- Redirect chains that move from an attachment to public cloud storage and then to a newly registered domain.
- Business messages that pass sender-authentication checks but request an unexpected login or payment-related action.
- Look-alike brand pages and data exfiltration to external services such as Telegram bots.
Scanning should analyze URLs and redirects inside documents, not just the visible email body. User procedures should require independent confirmation of unexpected orders, tenders and shared-file requests. Forcepoint’s account gives technical indicators for this campaign, but the domain and hosting path are time-sensitive and should not be treated as an exhaustive blocklist.
What is—and is not—known about the campaign
Forcepoint X-Labs and Dark Reading published technical details on February 2, 2026, including the lure, redirect sequence, fake domain and collection method. They did not publish a campaign victim count, prevalence rate or confirmed number of compromised Dropbox accounts. The reporting supports a credential-phishing assessment; it does not establish that Dropbox itself was hacked or that every recipient was affected.
