There is no single best carrier for every iPhone owner. The best choice is the one that works reliably where you live, work and travel, and whose full plan cost, hotspot and roaming limits, and benefits fit your household. Apple lists 5G and eSIM support across the major U.S. networks, so an iPhone-specific advantage is less important than your exact phone model, local service and plan terms.
Start with the places you use your iPhone
Check service at home, work, school and the places you regularly travel before comparing perks. A national coverage map is a useful first filter, but it cannot tell you exactly how well a signal reaches inside your building or how a network performs on a congested street or travel route.
Verizon’s 2026 carrier comparison, citing FCC Broadband Facts disclosures, lists these typical 5G download ranges:
| Carrier | Typical 5G download range |
|---|---|
| Verizon | 163–622 Mbps |
| T-Mobile | 144–561 Mbps |
| AT&T | 152–472 Mbps |
These are disclosed typical ranges, not speeds promised at a particular address. They should not decide the comparison on their own: local signal, building materials, congestion and your route matter more to your own experience.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Opensignal’s January 2026 Coverage Experience report gives Verizon 9.7/10 and AT&T 9.3/10. Those are scores on Opensignal’s measure, not percentages of U.S. land covered or guarantees of service at your address. They also do not settle how any of the three carriers will work in your particular locations.
Make the local comparison practical
- Enter your regular locations into each carrier’s coverage checker, then treat the maps as estimates rather than guarantees.
- If possible, test a line or borrow a phone on the network in the places where service matters most. Check calls, data and indoor reception at different times of day.
- Include the routes you actually travel, not just your home and workplace.
Compare plans by line count and what they include
The plans are not a simple one-to-one match. AT&T lists four Unlimited Your Way tiers and lets families mix and match lines. Verizon’s 2026 comparison describes Simplicity as a single flat-rate structure and myPlan as mix-and-match. T-Mobile offers tiered Essentials and Experience plans. The details below are advertised plan structures checked October 4, 2026; benefits and prices can change.

| What to compare | AT&T | Verizon | T-Mobile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plan structure | Four Unlimited Your Way tiers; family lines can be mixed and matched. | The 2026 comparison describes Simplicity as one flat-rate plan and myPlan as mix-and-match. | Tiered Essentials and Experience plan families. |
| Data and hotspot | Premium or high-speed data treatment and hotspot caps vary by tier. | Hotspot varies by plan; the comparison lists 10 GB on Simplicity. | Premium data and hotspot vary by tier; the top Experience tier advertises unlimited hotspot, subject to plan terms. |
| Travel | Unlimited plans include use in the U.S., Canada and Mexico; upper tiers add Latin American and wider international allowances. | The comparison lists Canada and Mexico roaming and satellite texting on the cited plan. | Canada and Mexico use and broader international data allowances vary by tier. |
| Streaming and entertainment | No streaming bundle is identified in the comparison. | Select paid perks and bundles are available; their value depends on which services you use. | Some Experience tiers include or discount named streaming services. |
Do not compare a one-line price with a family-line price or assume the lowest tier has the same data and travel terms as a premium tier. AutoPay, line count, eligibility, taxes, fees and promotions can all affect the bill. AT&T says taxes and fees are extra on its plan page, while T-Mobile’s FCC Broadband Facts disclosures list provider fees and taxes.
What the published price snapshot does—and does not—show
Verizon’s carrier-authored comparison gives one-line prices with AutoPay for its 2026 snapshot. It is a starting point, not a matched-feature price test:

Match data, hotspot and travel benefits to your use
Check the data terms behind “unlimited”
Compare how each plan treats premium or high-speed data, whether it has a stated allowance, and what happens after that allowance is used. If you often stream, upload or tether while away from Wi-Fi, those details may matter more than the plan name.
Rank #4
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.

For hotspot use, compare the included allowance and the terms after it runs out. Verizon’s comparison lists 10 GB on Simplicity; AT&T’s and T-Mobile’s allowances vary by tier. T-Mobile advertises unlimited hotspot on its top Experience tier, subject to that plan’s terms, so confirm the applicable conditions rather than treating “unlimited” as unlimited high-speed use in every circumstance.
Compare your destinations, not just the roaming label
AT&T lists U.S., Canada and Mexico usage across its unlimited tiers, with Latin American and wider international allowances on upper tiers. Verizon’s comparison lists Canada and Mexico roaming and satellite texting on the cited plan. T-Mobile’s Canada and Mexico use and broader international data allowances vary by tier. Check that your destinations are covered and compare high-speed roaming caps and what happens when a cap is reached.
Best Value
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Value perks only if you will use them
Streaming inclusions, discounts and selectable paid bundles can make a plan more valuable for a household that already uses the relevant services. They are less compelling if you would not otherwise subscribe. Compare the exact tier and terms instead of treating a perk as equivalent to a lower monthly bill.
Check your iPhone before switching
Apple documents iPhone 5G, LTE and eSIM capabilities, as well as carrier feature support. That general compatibility baseline does not confirm that your particular phone can be activated on a chosen plan. Exact model, carrier lock status and, especially for older or imported iPhones, network compatibility still matter.
- Find the exact iPhone model and confirm its compatibility with the carrier before porting your number.
- Check whether the phone is carrier-locked. If it is, confirm the current carrier’s unlock requirements and complete them before relying on the device with a new network.
- Ask the new carrier to confirm the device and eSIM or SIM activation steps for your plan.
- Before you switch, compare any remaining device payments, trade-in terms and promotional conditions with the full cost of the new service.
Choose the best fit for your household
Use this order to narrow the options without letting a national ranking or an advertised perk make the decision for you:
Quick Recap
- Eliminate networks that do not serve your regular locations well. Consider a local test when available, especially if indoor reception is important.
- Get the full price for your line count. Confirm AutoPay and eligibility requirements, taxes and fees, discounts, promotions and the rate after a promotion ends.
- Match data and hotspot terms to your usage. Check premium-data treatment, hotspot allowance and post-cap conditions.
- Check travel coverage by destination. Compare included countries, high-speed roaming caps and reduced-speed terms.
- Count only perks your household will actually use. Verify that the benefit is included with the specific plan tier you are pricing.
- Confirm your iPhone can move. Verify exact-model compatibility, unlock status and any device-payment or trade-in obligations.
