An unlabeled address can still belong to a government contractor, a custodian, another agency-controlled wallet, or a private entity. “Unknown” describes Arkham’s public attribution status; it does not mean the wallet is private, foreign, or unrelated to the government.
How does the October 8 transfer differ from the Coinbase Prime deposits?
A separate batch on October 7 moved roughly 3,200 BTC, valued by CoinDesk at about $264 million at the time, plus $119 million in USDT to Coinbase Prime deposit addresses. That destination is identifiable as an institutional exchange and custody service, but even those deposits do not prove liquidation because Coinbase Prime also provides custody.

What does an “unknown” or “unlabeled” Bitcoin wallet mean?

How much Bitcoin does Arkham currently attribute to the U.S. government?
Arkham’s U.S. Government entity page displayed approximately 306.79K BTC and $24.72 billion in total crypto value as of October 25, 2026. Those figures represent wallets Arkham attributed to that entity at that time, not an independently audited government balance sheet. They can change because of new seizures, transfers, revised labels, and cryptocurrency price movements.
The Bitfinex connection comes from blockchain tracing and Arkham’s wallet labeling. The 2016 hack involved 119,754 BTC, and U.S. authorities later recovered more than 94,000 BTC, according to TheStreet/AOL’s 2026 report. Neither fact by itself explains the purpose of the October 8 transfer.
