Arjun Rampal has praised the chance to share screen space with Mohanlal on Operation Ganga, calling the experience inspirational. Photos of the actors filming in Tbilisi, Georgia, prompted fans to imagine Rampal’s Major Iqbal alongside Mohanlal’s Major Mahadevan—but the reports do not confirm that the characters meet in the film.
What Rampal said about working with Mohanlal
In an Instagram post reproduced by Hindustan Times on October 1, 2026, Rampal shared photos with Mohanlal and wrote: “Such an honour to have the privilege to share screen space with you Sir. It has been inspirational. The supremely talented and gifted @mohanlal Thank you.” His hashtags included #operationganga, #Georgia and #Tbilisi.

The post places the production in Tbilisi, Georgia. Onmanorama’s September 30 report also said the film was shooting in Georgia and reproduced Rampal’s praise.
Why fans are pairing Major Iqbal and Major Mahadevan
The photos brought together two characters associated with the actors in other films. Hindustan Times identifies Rampal as Major Iqbal in the Dhurandhar films and Mohanlal as Major Mahadevan, a character created by Major Ravi. Its report lists Keerthi Chakra (2006), Kurukshetra (2008), Kandahar (2010) and 1971: Beyond Borders (2017) among the films featuring Major Mahadevan.

Fans responded with comments including “Major Iqbal with Major Mahadevan,” “Two Most Fav and Fab Men in one Frame” and “Collab I didn’t expect,” according to Hindustan Times. Onmanorama quoted a fan describing them as “Major Iqbal and Major Mahadevan in a single frame.” These are individual reactions, not confirmation of a plot connection.
What is confirmed about Operation Ganga
Operation Ganga is a Malayalam film directed by Vishnu Mohan, with Mohanlal in the lead. Cinema Express reported on September 30, 2026, that production had commenced and that the film is inspired by the Indian government mission to evacuate citizens stranded in Ukraine and surrounding countries during Russia’s 2022 invasion. The report describes the project as Rampal’s Malayalam cinema debut and his first film collaboration with Mohanlal.

The same report said the makers had not disclosed the specifics of Rampal’s role. The available reports do not establish that Major Iqbal or Major Mahadevan are characters in Operation Ganga, or that the film continues either character’s earlier film series. The “Major Iqbal and Major Mahadevan” connection remains fan speculation prompted by the actors’ photos.
