In December 2022, Arista announced a fixed 1RU switch in its 7060X5 family with 32 800G ports and a reported 25.6Tbps backplane, alongside five new 7050X4 leaf switches. The 7050X4 models target server connectivity at 10G to 100G, while the new 7060X5 configuration is aimed at much higher-capacity network roles. Arista forecast availability in Q1 2023; that was a launch-time target, not confirmation of current availability or product status.
What Arista announced
Arista’s December 14, 2022 announcement expanded two product families. The company positioned the 7050X4 range for enterprise compute and storage, colocation, and managed service providers, and described the 7060X5 additions as serving hyperscale backbone bandwidth needs. Across the broader range, Arista described support from 10G to 800G.
Network World counted eight new switches in its report. It specifically detailed one 7060X5 addition and five 7050X4 leaf switches; the announcement and report also referenced additions beyond those described configurations. The details below distinguish the reported models from broader family capabilities.
How the 7060X5 800G switch is configured
The new 7060X5 configuration was described as a fixed 1RU system with 32 ports operating at 800G and a 25.6Tbps backplane. Arista’s release said it offered OSFP- or QSFP-based optics. The exact optic compatibility depends on the particular SKU and deployment.

Network World placed it alongside two other 25.6Tbps 7060X5 configurations:
| Configuration described by Network World | Form factor | Port configuration |
|---|---|---|
| Existing 7060X5 configuration | 1RU | 128 × 200G |
| Existing 7060X5 configuration | 2RU | 64 × 400G |
| New 7060X5 configuration announced in December 2022 | 1RU | 32 × 800G |
Arista positioned the 7060X5 family for multi-role leaf and spine deployments, with the 800G model suited to high-capacity backbone uses. The port count and backplane figure describe the announced system; they are not independent measurements of application throughput.

What the 7050X4 leaf switches offer
Network World described the five new 7050X4 leaf switches as based on a single 8Tbps packet processor. The reported rack-level configuration retained 48 host-facing ports, with options for 10, 25, 50, or 100Gbps connections and 400Gbps uplinks for spine connectivity. The report described spine links at 100–400Gbps Ethernet.
Arista’s release described SFP interfaces, including 100G SFP-DD and DSFP, as well as QSFP-DD for 40G to 400G. The 7050X4 family’s stated options ranged from 10G to 400G. Port types and supported speeds vary by specific switch; verify the selected SKU and optic requirements before planning compatibility with existing equipment.

Why Arista said the additions mattered
Arista framed the 7050X4 models as a path for enterprise customers moving from 1/10/25G server connectivity toward 50/100G. For hyperscale customers, it described movement from 50/100G toward 100/200/400G to address growing bandwidth needs, including AI/ML workloads. These are the company’s stated use cases and market rationale, not independently measured evidence that a particular deployment needs those speeds.

Arista said both product families used Broadcom Trident4 and Tomahawk4 chipsets and ran Arista EOS. The company forecast availability in Q1 2023 and said customer testing was in progress when it issued the December 14, 2022 release. Those statements establish the launch-era plans, not present-day stock, support, firmware, or lifecycle status.

Arista also claimed 20–40% power savings in its 2022 release. The cited material does not independently validate that figure, nor does it establish comparative throughput, cost, or interoperability. Buyers evaluating a deployment would need current SKU documentation and project-specific validation rather than relying on the launch announcement alone.
