Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 phones appear to be receiving updates less often than monthly, but Google has not formally announced that these models are now quarterly-only. Reports describe several skipped monthly builds in late 2025 and early 2026; Google’s published support policy still includes the phones in a five-year update window.
Did Google move Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 to quarterly updates?
There is evidence of a slower, roughly quarterly delivery pattern, but it is not an officially announced policy. Android Central reported that Pixel 6 phones missed the October and November 2025 updates, received the December update, and then skipped January and February 2026. Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro also reportedly skipped January and February. The report described Google’s response as saying the phones would “remain security compliant” for their full support period. Android Central’s report
Pixel owners have also reported being on the December 2025 update without finding a Google statement confirming quarterly updates. That is consistent with the observed pattern, but owner reports do not establish a company-wide update policy. Google Pixel Community discussion
The careful answer is that monthly builds have not appeared for these models on the same schedule as before, according to the reports. The available evidence does not show that Google has permanently ended monthly updates for Pixel 6 or Pixel 7.

Are Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 still supported?
Yes. Google’s Pixel support page lists Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro among devices eligible for five years of updates, counted from when each device first became available on the Google Store in the US. Google Pixel phone update policy
That is a support window, not a promise that every model will receive a new, separate build every month. A missing monthly OTA therefore does not by itself mean the phone has reached end of support.

That establishes that these models are included in the QPR platform-release framework. It does not prove that all security fixes arrive only in quarterly releases, or that every monthly security bulletin produces an OTA for every model. QPR cadence and the delivery schedule of security-patch builds for an individual phone are related but distinct matters.

Google’s Pixel bulletin documentation says Pixel devices start receiving OTA updates on the same day the monthly Android Security Bulletin is released. Google Pixel security bulletins That describes the general process, but it does not guarantee that every Pixel model receives a separate monthly build. The reported Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 pattern shows that device-specific availability can differ from the general bulletin schedule.

The available sources do not establish exactly how Google bundles fixes from months without a device-specific build. Do not assume that a missed monthly update means every fix from that period is absent, or assume that all fixes have already been installed. Check the phone’s displayed security-update level and install any update offered to that device.

How to check your Pixel’s update status
- Check the patch level: Open Settings > About phone > Android version and read the Android security update date. Menu wording can vary slightly by Android version.
- Check for an available update: Open Settings > System > Software updates > System update, then follow the on-screen instructions if an update is offered.
- Use the displayed status, not the calendar alone: A phone still showing a December 2025 patch has not installed a later patch, but that date alone does not tell you whether Google has ended support or what fixes may be included in a later build.
What Pixel owners can conclude
- Support: Google’s published policy still places Pixel 6/6 Pro and Pixel 7/7 Pro within a five-year update window measured from their US Google Store availability.
- Observed delivery: Reports describe missed monthly builds and a pattern that looks roughly quarterly during late 2025 and early 2026.
- Official cadence: The available sources do not show a formal Google announcement making these phones permanently quarterly-only.
- Practical check: Verify the installed security-update date and check System update for an available OTA instead of treating a missed calendar month as proof that support has ended.
