They can be worth the price and build time, but only if you want a large nostalgic display model and a hands-on project—not a working game console. The LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System 71374 is the stronger presentation piece because it pairs a brick-built NES with a retro television and a hand-operated scrolling Super Mario Bros. scene. The LEGO Atari 2600 10306 is a more focused console display with cartridges, a joystick, three game-inspired scenes and a hidden gaming-room vignette.
Neither set plays games electronically. Your decision should come down to the platform you remember, the space available for display, how much you value a moving mechanism or diorama details, and the verified price today. LEGO has marked the NES set retired, so its resale pricing may differ substantially from its original listing.
What “worth it” means for these sets
There is no objective return-on-investment figure for a collector LEGO set. You are paying for several experiences at once: the time spent sorting and assembling thousands of parts, the satisfaction of recreating a familiar console, the finished model’s display presence and the memories attached to its games. A buyer who wants a playable machine will be disappointed; a fan who wants an elaborate centerpiece may find the same purchase highly satisfying.

LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System 71374: what you get
A console, controller and cartridge
The 2020 LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System set contains 2,646 pieces, according to The LEGO Group. The model includes a buildable NES console, a controller and a Game Pak cartridge. Its appeal is not just the console shell: the set is designed as a complete 1980s gaming display.
The interactive television mechanism
The centerpiece is an 1980s-style television with a hand-operated mechanism that scrolls a Super Mario Bros. scene across the screen. Turning the control moves the brick-built level, creating a tactile demonstration for visitors. LEGO describes the set as a “wonderfully detailed LEGO® brick Nintendo Entertainment System™ (71374) and interactive, 1980s-style television displaying the classic Super Mario Bros.™ game.” The mechanism is a novelty display feature, not an electronic screen or game system.
Price and availability
The US LEGO listing showed $269.99 in the 2020 release context and now identifies the product as a Retired Product. That figure is a historical LEGO listing, not a guarantee of a current sale price. Remaining new inventory, used examples, completeness, box condition and seller policies can move the price above or below that amount. Check the exact condition and contents before treating any listing as a bargain.

LEGO Atari 2600 10306: what you get
Console hardware and game references
The Atari 2600 set has 2,532 pieces, according to LEGO’s 2023 catalog listing. It builds the console, a joystick and three cartridge-sized game pieces. Those cartridges lead to small scenes inspired by Asteroids, Adventure and Centipede, giving the display multiple focal points rather than one scrolling screen.

The concealed gaming-room scene
A hidden 1980s gaming-room vignette folds into the model. This detail rewards owners who handle the set rather than leaving it permanently facing forward. The movable controls, cartridge storage and miniature scenes provide interaction, but they do not make the model a functional Atari console.
Two documented price points
LEGO’s 2023 catalog listed the set at $299.99. Brick Fanatics recorded a US launch price of $239.99 in 2022. These are different source-and-date figures, not competing promises about today’s price. Retail and resale prices can change with stock, region and condition, so verify a live listing and whether it is new, complete and sold with its original instructions.

Which set offers better display value?
Choose the NES for a centerpiece presentation
The NES combines two recognizable objects and gives you a motion feature to demonstrate. The television makes the set read as a complete gaming setup, while the crank-driven scene gives guests something to operate. That extra mechanism makes the NES the richer choice for someone who wants a conversation piece rather than a static console replica.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Its value is strongest when you have shelf depth and height for both the console and television and intend to display them together. If the television will be separated, blocked by other objects or rarely handled, part of the set’s distinctive appeal is lost.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Choose the Atari for cartridges and vignettes
The Atari emphasizes the physical language of early consoles: a joystick, cartridges and separate game scenes. It suits a collector whose memories center on Atari’s library or who prefers several small dioramas to a single moving screen. The hidden gaming-room scene adds a discovery element when you open and inspect the model.
Because the model is explicitly non-functional, its value depends on sculptural detail and nostalgia. It is not a lower-cost route to playing the original games.
How much build time should you expect?
No authoritative source publishes a standardized build-hour figure for either set. Do not convert 2,646 or 2,532 pieces into a promised number of hours. Elapsed time changes with sorting habits, building speed, breaks, interruptions and whether you build directly from numbered bags or pre-sort parts.
Use piece count as a project-size signal
The counts indicate that both are substantial adult-oriented projects, with the NES slightly larger by 114 pieces. They can occupy multiple sessions and require a stable work surface, containers for small parts and enough room to keep partially completed sections safe. Piece count tells you the scale of the undertaking, not its completion date.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Plan a low-friction build
- Clear a table where the model can remain undisturbed between sessions.
- Use shallow trays or labeled containers for small parts and completed subassemblies.
- Keep the instruction book and unopened numbered bags together so you can resume without re-sorting the entire set.
- Test moving sections gently as the instructions introduce them; forcing a mechanism can require disassembly.
- Reserve a final session for alignment, dust removal and deciding how the model will be displayed.
These steps improve the experience without pretending that every builder will finish in the same number of hours.
Are the consoles actually playable?
No. The Atari 2600 is described by LEGO as a non-functional replica. It has no working electronics, game cartridge reader, video output or playable software. The NES likewise is not a playable electronic console: its television uses a hand-operated brick mechanism to move a Super Mario Bros.-inspired scene. You are buying physical interaction and visual storytelling, not original hardware functionality.

Match the nostalgia, not just the discount
Start with the games and platform you would still recognize without the branding. NES nostalgia is concentrated in the console-and-TV setup and Super Mario Bros. reference. Atari nostalgia is distributed across three game-inspired scenes, cartridges and the joystick. A lower price on the platform you care less about is usually a worse value than paying more for the one you will enjoy seeing.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Value the mechanism you will use
Ask whether you will actually turn the NES control to show the scrolling scene or open the Atari’s hidden room and swap cartridges. If the answer is no, compare the sets as static sculptures and choose the one whose silhouette and details you prefer.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Measure your display area first
Both are display models rather than compact shelf toys. Measure the intended shelf, including clearance for handling the NES mechanism or opening the Atari’s concealed section. A set that must remain boxed because the shelf is too shallow has less practical value than its piece count suggests.
Separate historical prices from today’s offer
Use the documented LEGO and launch figures as context only. For the NES, retirement can create a resale premium, but a high asking price does not prove that the set is worth more. For the Atari, the $239.99 launch figure and $299.99 catalog figure show how source and timing differ. Compare several current offers, include shipping and taxes, and check completeness before deciding.
Buying checklist for a retired or discontinued set
- Confirm the exact set number: 71374 for the NES or 10306 for the Atari 2600.
- Ask whether every piece, cartridge, controller and instruction book is included.
- For used sets, request clear photos of the television mechanism, console surfaces and any missing or substituted parts.
- Check whether stickers were applied, damaged or omitted; condition affects a display collector’s priorities.
- Compare the seller’s return policy, shipping cost and stated condition instead of judging by headline price alone.
- Do not assume an affiliate or marketplace listing has a fixed price; inventory and seller status can change.
Who should buy each set?
NES 71374 is the better fit if you:
- want the most elaborate interactive presentation;
- remember the NES and Super Mario Bros. specifically;
- have room for a console-and-television display;
- are comfortable checking resale listings because LEGO marks it retired.
Atari 2600 10306 is the better fit if you:
- prefer Atari’s joystick, cartridges and multiple game references;
- enjoy dioramas and discovering a hidden gaming-room scene;
- want a focused console display rather than a television mechanism;
- find a verified complete set at a price that fits your budget.
A future PlayStation replica changes the comparison
On September 3, 2026, PlayStation Blog reported that LEGO and PlayStation were preparing a replica of the original PlayStation console and controller. The announcement describes functional Power and Open buttons, a controller that plugs into the console and removable game dioramas. It lists regional RRPs of $179.99, €159.99, £139.99 and ¥27,980.
Treat that product as a future update until release timing, stock and retailer listings are confirmed. Its announced buttons and plug-in controller suggest a different interaction philosophy from the NES crank and Atari’s non-functional replica, but an announcement alone cannot establish final build quality, availability or value.
Final buying framework
- Choose the platform whose games and memories matter most to you.
- Measure the exact display space and allow room to operate moving parts.
- Decide whether you want the NES television mechanism or Atari’s cartridge-and-diorama approach.
- Set a maximum price using documented historical figures only as context.
- Verify current stock, seller condition and completeness before paying, especially for the retired NES.
- Buy only if you are happy owning a display project that cannot play games.
On those terms, the NES 71374 is the richer interactive display, while the Atari 2600 10306 is the more focused cartridge-and-vignette tribute. Neither has a standardized build-time promise, and neither replaces a functioning console. The right purchase is the one whose nostalgia, mechanism and display presence justify the verified price for you.
