Some readers say Fandom wikis are frustrating to use, particularly on phones, where they report disruptive ads, freezing, or crashes. But those accounts are anecdotal: they do not show that every Fandom wiki is unusable or that every reader sees the same experience. If a page is difficult to use, you can report a specific ad to Fandom or check whether the community maintains a current alternative.
What readers mean when they call Fandom unusable
In a May 2024 r/wikia discussion, commenters described ad interruptions, pages freezing or crashing, and difficulty reading on mobile. Others reported less severe problems or suggested that the experience might vary by device, ad blocking, or wiki. One Google Play review excerpt likewise complained that popup ads made the Fandom app unusable.
These reports help explain the complaint, but they are not a representative survey or a current measurement of performance. They cannot establish how often problems happen, whether they affect all wikis, or whether the experience has uniformly worsened. Fandom says ads are geo-targeted, and individual readers describe different experiences.
What Fandom says about ads and usability
Ads are part of the platform policy
Fandom’s Community Creation and Content Policy, revised September 22, 2025, says creators must agree to the display of ads. It also says text on Fandom communities is available under a free-content license. The policy describes platform rules; it does not establish how pleasant a particular page is to use. It also says staff may contact communities about changes to names or URLs to improve search visibility and ad display.

Fandom says it has addressed ad performance and disruptive ads
In a July 24, 2024 community blog post, Fandom said it audited ad technical performance to improve loading speed and avoid memory concerns on users’ devices. The company also said it was strengthening and enforcing policies with third-party advertisers to remove disruptive or unexpected experiences, particularly on mobile. Those statements describe Fandom’s efforts; they do not independently verify that complaints were resolved.
How to report a disruptive ad to Fandom
Fandom’s ad-reporting instructions ask for details that can help identify a targeted ad. The company says its advertising manager may review the report and may be able to remove the ad; removal is not guaranteed.
- Open Fandom’s ad-reporting page and identify the wiki or community where you saw the ad.
- Describe which ad appeared and why it caused a problem.
- Include a screenshot and the ad URL if available.
- Provide your operating system and country. Fandom says ads are geo-targeted, so those details help it investigate.
Fandom’s support index groups ad issues alongside bug, vandalism, and copyright reporting, and links to a current known-issues section.

Readers in the discussion mentioned wiki.gg and Miraheze, but those mentions are leads, not a verified directory or endorsement. Neither host should be assumed to have a wiki for every game or show. Check the specific fandom before relying on an alternative:

- Search for the game’s or show’s current wiki and confirm you have found the community’s intended site.
- Look at recent edits and whether important pages have useful depth, not just a matching name or logo.
- Check whether the relevant community maintains it and whether its mobile pages are readable for your needs.
- Consider how the wiki is funded, who controls it, and what support or stability information is available. Available evidence does not establish a ranking of hosts on these points.
Community wikis can move or become outdated, so a familiar host name alone is not proof that a particular alternative is active or complete. Browser tools that limit ads may also be an option, but compatibility and availability vary by browser and device; no particular product can be recommended here on the available evidence.
