No—not according to AOL’s public statement in September 2008. The company denied reports that it planned to sell its Manassas Tech Center and Dulles Tech Center. That statement describes AOL’s position at the time; it does not establish the current sale status of those facilities.
What AOL said about the Manassas and Dulles data centers
On September 3, 2008, Data Center Knowledge reported that AOL had rejected stories suggesting it might sell its Manassas Tech Center and Dulles Tech Center in Northern Virginia. AOL spokesperson Anne Bentley said, “There is absolutely no truth to the stories,” and added that “there are no current plans to sell the data centers.”
The phrase “current plans” belongs to that 2008 statement. The report establishes what AOL said then, not whether either facility is for sale now.
Why EMCOR’s role was not a sale
The same report said EMCOR handled physical-plant maintenance at the facilities, including heating, cooling, and backup generators. That was a service relationship; the report did not describe EMCOR as buying the centers or taking ownership of them.

The CoreSite property in Reston was a separate site
A separate former AOL property can cause confusion. Fairfax County says CoreSite purchased the former AOL property at 12100 Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston and opened its first Reston data center there in 2008. The county’s account concerns that Reston property—not the Manassas and Dulles facilities named in the 2008 sale rumor.
In a later interview, CoreSite CEO Juan Font described the former AOL headquarters property as the start of the company’s Fairfax County presence. He said CoreSite developed the building and later built VA2 next to it. The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority interview provides that retrospective context, but it does not establish the present ownership or sale status of AOL’s other former facilities.
