Apple has not announced its next entry-level iPad. The latest cited report points to an A19 chip, 8GB of RAM, Apple’s N1 networking chip, and a C1X modem in cellular versions, while another report places its arrival no earlier than the first quarter of 2027. Those are rumors, not confirmed specifications or a launch schedule. If you need a tablet now, Apple’s current 11-inch iPad with an A16 chip is the available alternative.

Is Apple’s next entry-level iPad confirmed?

No. As of October 3, 2026, Apple has not announced the rumored 12th-generation entry-level iPad in the cited sources. Its chip, memory, connectivity, price, and release timing remain unconfirmed. The most recent specification claims come from reporting that attributes details to Apple code, not from an Apple product announcement.

What specifications are rumored?

Feature What reporting says What is confirmed
Chip A September 25 MacRumors report says Apple code points to an A19. Earlier reporting was divided between A18 and A19, including A18 claims attributed to Mark Gurman and A19-linked code associated with model identifiers J581 and J582, as summarized by Macworld. Apple has not confirmed the chip. The newer report makes A19 the strongest current rumor, not a settled specification. MacRumors; Macworld
Memory The latest report says 8GB of RAM. Not confirmed by Apple. MacRumors
Cellular modem The same report names a C1X modem for cellular versions. Not confirmed, and the claim applies to cellular versions rather than necessarily every configuration. MacRumors
Wireless Reports mention Apple’s N1 networking chip; earlier coverage discussed possible Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. None of these wireless details is confirmed. Whether N1 will be included remains uncertain. MacRumors; Macworld
Design and display Coverage expects a familiar design and an LCD screen rather than a major exterior redesign. These are forecasts, not announced details. Screen, color, and camera specifications are not established. MacRumors; Macworld

Why is A19 the leading chip rumor?

Earlier coverage did not agree on the processor: some reporting pointed to A18, while other clues suggested A19. Macworld’s September 9 roundup described that split, including A19-linked model identifiers J581 and J582. A later MacRumors report dated September 25 said Apple code indicates A19 alongside 8GB of RAM, N1 networking, and a C1X modem for cellular models. That newer report shifts the balance toward A19, but it does not make the chip official. Macworld; MacRumors

Some earlier speculation tied an A18 or A19 chip and 8GB of memory to possible Apple Intelligence eligibility. That does not establish that the unreleased iPad will support Apple Intelligence or any particular feature. Apple’s current comparison page lists Apple Intelligence for iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro models, but not for the current A16 entry-level iPad. Apple iPad comparison

When might it come out?

A July 16, 2026 MacRumors report, relaying Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, puts the iPad in the first quarter of 2027 at the earliest. That is a reported forecast, not an Apple schedule, and it supersedes earlier expectations that pointed to 2026. Apple has not given a launch date. MacRumors

How much might the next iPad cost?

No price has been announced for the rumored model. MacRumors reports that the current iPad’s U.S. starting price rose from $349 to $449 in June 2026 and speculates that the successor might retain a $449 starting price. Treat $449 as a forecast for the future model, not a confirmed price; pricing may vary by market and configuration. MacRumors

Should you buy the current iPad or wait?

Apple’s current 11-inch iPad is a real, available product; the rumored successor is not. Apple lists the current model with an A16 chip, 128GB of starting storage, a Liquid Retina display, and compatibility with Apple Pencil (USB-C), first-generation Apple Pencil, and Magic Keyboard Folio. These details apply to the current model and should not be assumed for its successor. Apple iPad comparison

Choice What you can count on Main trade-off
Buy the current 11-inch iPad Apple lists an A16 chip and 128GB starting storage. MacRumors reports a U.S. starting price of $449. You get a confirmed product now, but it is the A16 model rather than the rumored successor. Apple; MacRumors
Wait for the rumored successor The latest report points to A19, 8GB RAM, N1 networking, and C1X in cellular versions; a separate report says Q1 2027 at the earliest. Specifications, timing, availability, and price are all unconfirmed. MacRumors

If you need a tablet soon, the current A16 model lets you choose based on published specifications rather than predictions. Waiting may make sense if a newer chip is your priority and you can tolerate uncertain timing; possible Apple Intelligence support is not established for the successor. Check Apple’s current store listing for live price and availability before buying.
