AppleCare+ adds Apple hardware service and technical support, including coverage for unlimited accidental-damage incidents per covered device—but you still pay a service fee for each covered accident. Theft and loss require a plan that specifically includes those benefits. Whether the added cost is worthwhile depends on your device, coverage period, potential repair bill and comfort with paying for an unexpected repair or replacement.
The prices and terms below refer to Apple’s US plans and reviewed US materials. Availability, eligibility, service fees and coverage can differ by device, plan and location; check the current terms for your product before buying.
What does AppleCare+ cover?
Apple describes AppleCare+ as additional hardware service and technical support from Apple. For each covered device, it includes unlimited incidents of accidental damage, such as damage from a drop or spill. “Unlimited” describes the number of eligible accidental-damage incidents—not free repairs: a service fee applies to each claim, and the amount depends on the product, damage category, plan and location. See Apple’s AppleCare plan descriptions and the applicable terms for your device.
- Battery service: Apple says battery service is included at no additional fee if the covered product’s battery holds less than 80% of its original capacity. Check the individual product and plan terms.
- Some iPad accessories: With AppleCare+ or AppleCare One for iPad, Apple says accidental-damage coverage includes one Apple Pencil and one Apple-branded keyboard used with the covered iPad.
- In-box accessories: Apple’s overview also includes the cables and power adapters that came in the box. This should not be read as coverage for unrelated accessories or theft or loss of accessories.

Does AppleCare+ cover theft or loss?
Not every AppleCare+ plan includes theft and loss. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss adds those benefits and, in Apple’s legal plan descriptions, allows up to two theft-or-loss incidents in 12 months. AppleCare One also includes theft-and-loss protection for eligible iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch devices. Its limit is plan-wide, not a separate allowance for each device: Apple’s overview lists three total claims per year for Individual and six for Family. The reviewed US Individual disclosure describes up to three theft-and-loss claims per 12 months and says adding devices does not raise that limit. Confirm the current terms for the specific plan before relying on a claim allowance.
For the reviewed US AppleCare One terms, Find My must be enabled when the device is lost or stolen and remain enabled through the claims process. The device must also remain associated with the AppleCare One plan and your Apple Account through that process. Sharing your location is not a substitute for enabling Find My. Theft-and-loss coverage has its own conditions and deductible; consult the plan’s current disclosure and insurance documents.

How much does AppleCare+ cost?
AppleCare+ pricing for a single device depends on its model. Apple’s US overview does not provide a single price that applies to all devices, so check the price shown for your exact product in Settings or Apple’s current purchase flow rather than relying on an older model’s price. Service fees and theft-and-loss deductibles also vary by device and claim type.

| Plan | Listed monthly price | Devices and people |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | $19.99 per month | Up to three eligible products at the base price; $5.99 per month for each additional product |
| Family | $49.99 per month | Eligible devices for up to six people in a Family Sharing group |
These are listed US prices, which may change. AppleCare One eligibility is not automatic for every device you already own: Apple says existing products generally need to be in good condition and four years old or newer, with a separate one-year age limit for headphones. Apple may require diagnostics or inspection. Check Apple’s current plan and eligibility information before comparing costs.
When is AppleCare+ worth buying?
There is no universal break-even point. Apple’s reviewed plan information does not establish how likely a particular owner is to damage or lose a device, or how much a typical customer saves. Instead, compare the cost of coverage with the repair or replacement expense you could realistically face and the value you place on Apple’s service and support.

- Set your coverage period. Estimate how long you expect to keep the device under the plan.
- Total the premiums. Use the current price for the exact device or plan and multiply it by the months you intend to keep coverage.
- Add the relevant claim cost. Include the service fee for accidental damage or, if you are considering theft and loss, the applicable deductible and claim conditions.
- Compare with your own exposure. Weigh that combined cost against the repair or replacement bill you would be prepared to pay yourself. Consider whether Apple’s repair and support route is valuable to you, even if you never make a claim.
- Assess theft and loss separately. Verify the device is eligible, check the plan-wide claim limit and deductible, and make sure you can meet the Find My requirements.
- If covering several devices, compare plan structures. For eligible products, compare the cost of AppleCare One with the total for separate plans. Check each product’s age and condition eligibility first.
Coverage may make more sense to someone who would find a large repair bill difficult to absorb or who values Apple’s service and technical support. Someone comfortable paying for a repair themselves may prefer to keep the premium. Neither preference predicts whether a claim will happen; the comparison is about the costs and risks you are willing to carry.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When can you enroll, and how do you check eligibility?
Apple’s overview commonly gives a 60-day window after buying a new product, but Apple Support documents product-specific enrollment timing, including shorter windows for some devices. The available options can also depend on the plan, region and whether you had prior coverage. Do not assume the same deadline applies to every Apple product.

Apple says you can buy AppleCare+ or AppleCare One Individual when purchasing a new product through Apple. Availability and enrollment routes depend on the product and plan.
What is the difference between AppleCare+ and AppleCare One?
AppleCare+ is generally purchased for an individual device, with pricing and service fees tied to its model and plan. AppleCare One is a monthly plan that can cover multiple eligible products under one subscription; its US Individual tier starts with up to three eligible products, while Family covers eligible devices for up to six people in a Family Sharing group. AppleCare One also includes theft-and-loss protection for eligible iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch devices, subject to its plan-wide claim limit and conditions. Compare eligible devices, premiums, claim fees and the exact terms—not just the number of products a plan can include.
