Neither Apple Watch nor Fitbit is the universal winner for fitness insights. Both can track activity and sleep, but the more useful choice depends on your phone, the specific metrics and summaries you want, and whether you prefer a smartwatch or a tracker. Apple Watch offers a broad set of health and workout features; Fitbit and Pixel Watch offer activity and sleep tracking, with readiness and some other insights varying by device and Google Health plan. Feature lists are not proof that one brand is more accurate.
Start with your phone and wearable preference
Before comparing metrics, narrow the choice to devices that suit your phone and the way you want to wear them. Apple Watch is the natural option to evaluate if you use an iPhone and want a smartwatch experience with Apple’s Activity rings and health features. Fitbit trackers are a tracker-oriented alternative; Pixel Watch is Google’s smartwatch option. Do not assume that a feature documented for Pixel Watch is available on every Fitbit tracker.

For current app terminology, Google says the Fitbit app became the Google Health app starting May 19, 2026, and Fitbit Premium became Google Health Premium for supported subscribers. Older Fitbit instructions and references may use legacy names. See Google’s explanation of the redesigned Google Health app.

Apple Watch: a broad mix of daily, overnight, and workout information
Apple describes the Vitals app as a place to review measures including heart rate, heart-rate variability (HRV), respiratory rate, and wrist temperature, with typical ranges and contextual notifications when multiple overnight measures fall outside a person’s normal range. Apple also lists sleep tracking and a sleep score, heart-rate notifications, irregular rhythm notifications, ECG on supported models, Cycle Tracking, Activity rings, and workout metrics. Availability varies by model and region; Apple details its health features in Why Apple Watch and Apple Support’s health-features guide.

Fitbit and Google Health: activity, sleep, and device-dependent readiness
Google describes activity and sleep tracking across Fitbit and Pixel Watch, while heart-rate measures, readiness, and other health features depend on the device. Readiness draws on recent sleep, HRV, and resting heart rate. Supported devices and how the score appears can differ, and Google notes that the score or its display may change after app updates. Check Google’s readiness-score guide against the specific device you are considering.
Sleep views can include duration, schedule, score, and sleep stages, but which details are available depends on device, region, and sometimes Premium. Google’s sleep-tracking guide describes the feature and its conditions. Pixel Watch documentation separately covers activity tracking, automatic activity detection, sleep, heart rate, and an ECG app; ECG and other features have device and country limits. Those Pixel Watch capabilities should not be generalized to all Fitbit trackers. See Google Pixel Watch’s activity and sleep guide.

Which features are likely to feel more useful?
| What matters to you | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Daily activity and workouts | Both ecosystems offer activity tracking. Apple emphasizes Activity rings and workout metrics; Google documents activity tracking on Fitbit and Pixel Watch, with details varying by device. |
| Sleep and overnight context | Both provide sleep tracking. Apple includes sleep score and Vitals context; Google sleep views may include duration, schedule, score, and stages, depending on device, region, and sometimes Premium. |
| Readiness or recovery-style feedback | Google’s readiness score uses recent sleep, HRV, and resting heart rate on supported devices. Apple’s Vitals presents overnight measures and contextual notifications; these are different presentations, not a like-for-like ranking. |
| Heart-related features | Apple lists heart-rate and irregular rhythm notifications and ECG on supported models. Pixel Watch has an ECG app on supported devices and in supported countries. Check exact model and location availability. |
| Cycle tracking | Apple lists Cycle Tracking, with some functions such as retrospective ovulation estimates subject to model and regional availability. |
| Advanced guidance and cost | Some Google sleep details or wellness features may depend on Premium; supported subscribers are transitioning from Fitbit Premium to Google Health Premium. Confirm what is included for the device and account before choosing. |
Can either brand be called more accurate?
No overall accuracy winner is established by the vendor feature documentation cited here. Those pages explain what features are offered and where they are available; they are not controlled, independent Apple Watch-versus-Fitbit accuracy comparisons. A list of metrics or a readiness score alone does not show that one device measures health or fitness more accurately.
ECG and rhythm notifications are device features that may provide information to discuss with a healthcare professional; they are not a diagnosis or a substitute for professional care. Availability depends on model and region. Consult the relevant Apple health-feature information or Pixel Watch guidance for applicable limits.

How to choose for your routine
- Check phone compatibility and ecosystem fit. Rule out devices that do not fit how you use your phone and apps.
- Name the insight you will act on. Choose the metric or summary that matters most: workout records, sleep context, overnight trends, readiness, or heart-related notifications.
- Verify the exact model and region. Feature availability varies, especially for ECG, certain health functions, and sleep details.
- Check whether a paid plan is needed. Google says some features depend on device and sometimes Premium; verify the current Google Health plan terms for the device and account.
- Pick the device style you will wear consistently. A potentially useful dashboard matters less if the form factor does not suit your everyday use.
