What’s actually slowing this PC down?

If Apple TV sign-in is not working, first identify what the screen says: a rejected password or verification prompt points to your account; a locked or disabled message requires account recovery; a purchase or iTunes Store prompt usually means setup is incomplete; and a spinner or server error points to a service or network connection. The steps differ depending on whether you’re using an Apple TV 4K or HD, or the Apple TV app on a smart TV or streaming device.
Start by identifying where you’re signing in
Apple calls the login used for Apple TV an Apple Account. Some screens and older support material may still say “Apple ID.” Use the email address or phone number associated with that account.
Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD
- Open Settings and select Users and Accounts.
- Select a suggested user or choose Add New User.
- Enter your Apple Account email address or phone number and password. If prompted, enter the six-digit verification code sent to a trusted device or phone number.
Apple also supports signing in with another Apple device in some circumstances. The options shown can depend on your device and software.
Apple TV app on a smart TV or streaming device
- Open the Apple TV app and use the remote’s back or left control to open its sidebar.
- Go to Settings and select Sign In.
- Choose the displayed sign-in method: enter your Apple Account details with the remote, or scan the on-screen QR code with a phone if that option is offered.
Apple TV app availability and sign-in features vary by device compatibility. If the app or a sign-in method is missing, check whether that device supports it.

If you see “I can’t sign in to my Apple Account”
Password or account identifier rejected
If you’ve forgotten the password, follow Apple’s password-reset process. If you’re unsure which email address or phone number belongs to the account, use Apple’s account-finding guidance. Don’t keep guessing account identifiers; confirm the one associated with your Apple Account first.
Verification code requested
A password alone may not complete sign-in when two-factor authentication is enabled. Enter the six-digit code Apple sends to a trusted device or trusted phone number. If you can’t access either, use Apple’s account recovery guidance rather than treating the code prompt as a password error.

Account locked, inactive, or disabled
Stop retrying the password if the message says the account is locked, inactive, or disabled. Follow Apple’s specific account-status or recovery instructions; repeated sign-in attempts do not address that account restriction.
If Apple TV says “Cannot connect” or keeps spinning
A continuous spinner or server-connection failure can be caused by an Apple service interruption or by the device’s connection. Apple’s sign-in guidance advises checking service status for your country or region first.

- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
- Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
- Check Apple System Status for an interruption affecting Apple TV or related services in your region.
- If there is no listed interruption, try signing in over another internet network, such as a different Wi-Fi network or a phone hotspot, if available.
- If the alternate network works, contact the administrator of the original network or your internet provider about that connection. Otherwise, try again later.
When other Apple services also fail to connect, check whether ordinary websites load, temporarily assess whether a VPN or third-party security software is interfering, install available device software updates, and verify the date and time settings. For Apple TV hardware specifically, Apple also recommends checking the Wi-Fi connection, forgetting and rejoining the network, and checking the router or modem connection.
If the message says “No iTunes Store account”
This is generally a purchase-account setup issue, not evidence that your password is wrong. A first-time sign-in to Apple media services may ask for payment information, and Apple may require you to finish account setup or accept terms before purchases or downloads work.

Choose the fix by the symptom
| What you see | What it points to | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Password or account identifier rejected | Incorrect or forgotten credentials, or the wrong account identifier | Reset the password or confirm the account email address or phone number. |
| Six-digit code prompt | Two-factor verification is required | Get the code from a trusted device or phone number. |
| Account locked, inactive, or disabled | An account-status restriction | Follow Apple’s account-status or recovery instructions. |
| “No iTunes Store account” or purchase/terms prompt | Incomplete media-services purchase setup | Complete account setup and terms on Apple’s web page for your region, then return to Apple TV. |
| Continuous spinner or “Cannot connect” | Possible Apple service interruption or network problem | Check regional System Status, then try another network or retry later. |
When to escalate
- If the account itself is locked, disabled, or in recovery, continue through Apple’s account support path rather than repeating sign-in attempts.
- If another network allows sign-in, ask the administrator or internet provider to investigate the original network.
- If Apple System Status shows an interruption, wait until service is restored and try again.
Apple’s published support guidance does not quantify how often each sign-in error occurs, so no single cause can be called the most common based on that guidance.
